Kusiak Construction handles all aspects of interior and exterior remodeling for residential customers. We do everything from minor repairs to remodels. We are licensed, bonded and insured and have been serving Northwest Indiana since 1948.

"I apologize for the very delayed response. I just saw your review and went back to your initial request and saw you requested fixing a support beam. Unfortunately, at that time we didn't do any work for structural work or support beams. That should have been communicated to you and I apologize. This was during covid so our office was being ran a little different to ensure our employees and customers health and safety remained our number one priority. Unfortunately, with people working from home and doing half days in the office some things did fall thru the cracks. It is not acceptable but we were working in unprecedented times and were working our hardest. I appreciate your feedback and we will absolutely do better in the future. I hope you understand and don't rule us out in the future. We are back in the office and back to 100%."

I wish I had garage before pictures to show the amazing transformation. The finishing work far exceeded my expectations. Cathedral ceiling cracks and drywall repair is amazing. You cant' tell where patching was done. Patio door is beautiful and really well installed. Painting also well done. One small piece of trim was cut to my satisfaction and it was redone. Bob Popovich and Brian and Oscar and the carpenters for the door were top notch. I will hire them to replace my entry doors this fall. I highly recommend.

The work went a little slower than anticipated but the results were very good. Old houses are full of surprises and mine was no exception. The work team discovered the original art deco bathroom floor under two layers of ceramic and vinyl tile. I decided to keep it and forego the ceramic tile I had chosen to install there. The laborers work hard to remove the mastic from it and brought it back to its original 1930's beauty. They also discovered that I needed to have concrete poured where my bathtub had been to raise the floor level to the grade of the rest of the bathroom floor in order to install my new shower and surround. I also appreciate that Bob Popovich had no reservations about using materials I had already purchased (another company would not do it). When I requested new drywall in my second bathroom in addition to the new ceramic tile floor if was done without hesitation and what I feel was a very fair add-on price. The scope of work included some new electrical, plumbing and fixtures, drywall and painting, hanging of a barn door, as well as installation of a waterproof floating vinyl floor and ceramic flooring. Special thanks to Alvin who went above and beyond the normal scope of work to keep my household functioning as well as possible during the remodel (my dogs loved him too!) In conclusion I would like to say that the other company that gave me a bid was 2 1/2 times higher in price without the inclusion of the second bathroom drywall. It pays to shop and compare.

All of the Steel City employees were a pleasure to work with. They were very professional and really cared about the quality of work they delivered. We had a great experience! Bob was super responsive and completed the project much quicker than they originally estimated. There were a couple little hiccups - an unexpected leak - and the plumber came back that very night to fix it. They were easy to work with and even took the liberty to fix a couple small things they encountered in the house (a sticky door and a wiring issue in the garage door). We can't say enough good things about our experience with them, and are already planning to call them first in the next round of projects at our house.

I had to call twice to get a call back. This contractor came out, spent 15 minutes looking at the work to be done, I was told an estimate would be emailed to me. I've not received an estimate nor has the contractor called me.

"This customer was interested in repairing a high rear wood deck which was beyond useful life. He was informed by our estimator that we did not believe we could make this deck code compliant or safe. He also was informed at the time of setting the appointment that we had an approximately 2 month backlog on deck building. We only made the appointment because he thought it was a simple repair. We are not interested in doing any repairs to a deck in this condition."

It was great. Of course minor things are uncovered during projects, but Bob is the guy you want to have as a general contractor. Why? He is responsive. He always answers his phone and returns calls. This is huge, and if you’ve ever done a remodel project before you’ll know why. If anything comes up, he’ll make it over to check the issue out - in a couple days, not a couple weeks. He’s timely. He won’t give you an unrealistic timeframe. You’ll know what to expect for a turnaround timeframe, and he won’t disappoint you there. I can tell you from working with other contractors that most almost never get their work done on time - not even close. His team is professional and always keeps a neat work area and cleans up after themselves. He uses skilled laborers to complete all tasks properly, and we have seldom found only minor issues with quality and workmanship in all of our projects over the years. Of course nobody is perfect, but the important thing is that every small issue we have ever found has been quickly addressed and fixed. Bob is also a really nice guy. He has offered to help us out in a pinch when other people certainly wouldn’t. His quotes and terms are reasonable - I really just can’t say enough good things about him. We own a commercial property also, and Bob has helped us address just about every issue that has come up there, in addition to 3 remodeling phases at our rental home. Unfortunately, we are going to be moving out of his work area soon, but we HIGHLY recommend him to anyone needing a quality construction contractor. We also live in Chicago and have found plenty of quality contractors in the city, but none as responsive as this guy. He’s the one!

When I mentioned that I was not happy with part of the railing the owner was very responsive and it was completed to my satisfaction the next day. Additional parts were needed.

Everything was done professionally and in a timely manner. Bob was concerned that evert hung was to our convenience. Everyone was understanding about our pet and the need for his safety during the work. We highly recommended them.

I couldn't be happier with the product and work performed. Oscar and Sam were punctual, kept the work area as clean as possible at the end of every day and worked well together. Bob was very easy to deal with and I felt comfortable hiring him. I cannot say enough about how pleased I was with the whole process. Additionally, Carol in the office was quickly responsive to follow up questions I had. I recommend them highly and would use them again.
