"We hate that this is how she feels about our company and the work we performed. This job was under contract in 2015 and we're just now receiving this review. It was impossible to complete this project in 6-8 weeks as she changed her mind on what she wanted numerous times causing numerous change orders. She worked directly with the kitchen cabinet designer/builder and signed off on exactly what she got. It wasn't until it was time to collect the balance that we learned of her complaints. We tried on many occasions to meet with her to discuss and resolve the things she was unhappy with. It resulted in both parties hiring legal counsel, in which we requested an in home walk through to see what she was concerned about. As of today, that request has gone unanswered. I'd also like to mention she has yet to pay her large balance."
I am writing this on May 2, 2016, or 2 days less than 3 weeks after the appointment. To date, I have not received a return phone call from Chris Shelton, nor have I received an estimate for the work, nor any follow up calls of any kind. In those almost 3 weeks, we have interviewed, and met with two other contractors and received bids from them both. We will be going with a different contractor for this job and have no plans at all to contact VIP further.
I am not sure where to begin, but I want to say that if were not for Jim Smith and VIP Home Solutions I would have been homeless now. My house was destroyed by another contractor who took my life savings from me and left me with a 10% completed house. I Jim Smith and his VIP Home Solutions crew were able to help me get my house back. It has taken two and a half years, but I am finally able to move back into my beautiful home thanks to VIP Home solutions. All the people who Jim subcontractors with are very professional and they were all very conscious able the ordeal I had been though and they made every effort to minimize my out of pocket expenses. I am so grateful to VIP and what they were able to do for me. It is hard to find honest people in the contracting business these days who really do try to put their customers concerns first. Jim Smith and his family, and the people he subcontracts to all have a heart of gold.
I will say that my project took a very long time to be completed, but the work was done amazingly well. The main reason that my project took so long was because VIP Home Solutions made every effort to get me the best possible price on every aspect of my project. I hope whoever reads this will consider VIP Home Solutions if what you really want is quality work done right the first time.
Signed,
Very happy customer
Screened in porch was nearly completed 6 weeks ago and I paid in full but contractor took 6 weeks after full payment to install the railing and adjust the doors which were sloppily installed with gaps. After waiting 6 weeks the railing was improperly installed (unpainted) and the gaps around the doors were not addressed. I paid in full trusting that the work would be completed but that was a huge mistake in hindsight. Owner assured me 6 days ago that all of these issues would be immediately addressed but another week has passed and nothing has been done. Weather was perfect this week so contractor had opportunity to address these issues and complete the job with railing painted. I would not recommend this contractor.
No calls until yesterday, 10/10/15, when a man called to see if I was still wanting someone to come out. I said someone is already hired. He said that was good, he was just calling to check, or words to that effect.
Words and behaviors didn't match. The follow through was poor. I don't know if they are too busy, didn't want to do the job that was needed, or what, but it would be helpful if a company would say so up front rather then be late, then later, then not follow through with what they say. Or, if one month later is the norm for following through, let the customer know that. It is mid-October. If I had waited for an estimate and then the start of work it might have been too cold for what's absolutely needed now.
missed by the adjuster. This is a principal factor in any insurance inspection process.
Our professional, licensed and bonded contractor was able to point out several areas of damage that the adjuster had missed. With VIP Home Solutions, we were confident that we didn?t need to be present at the time of inspection. And the resulting payment, from the insurance company, allowed for completion of the various jobs (listed below).
After tearing off existing shingles down to wood decking, their work covered all aspects of roofing, including installation of Lifetime Warranty Atlas Pinnacle Pristine Dimensional Shingles (3M algae resistant / 130 MPH Wind Warranty); hip & ridge shingles, felt paper, Ice & Water shield (around perimeter of chimney, skylights and perimeter of home), pipe boot flashing, 11 new metal roof vents; all new metal step and counter flashing around chimney; and surrounding gutter apron.
In addition, VIP Home Solutions installed two Power Attic Vents, with electrical hook up (owner supplied the new power vents).
A couple of weeks later, when the weather settled down, a new team returned to pre-power wash, caulk and generally prep the entire exterior of our home for painting and gutter work. They carefully painted home?s exterior (excluding brick veneer); plus soffits and fascia; front porch; garage doors; and window & door casings. Prior to painting, they removed existing gutters and 9 downspouts and, following painting, installed new 6" seamless gutters with 10 downspouts.
An important step, often overlooked by roofing contractors, was the thorough use of a magnetic nail/staple mower, on our surrounding yard, driveway, and walkways ? so that our cars and lawnmower wouldn?t pick them up in the tires. Furthermore, all trash/debris was removed from the site.
Our house is now tighter and prettier than it's been, in fifteen or more years!
Additionally, VIP Home Solutions sent over another team -- a couple of weeks later -- to rip out and replace our pool filter/equipment fence that had been damaged from wind-sheer, during a storm, last year.
In all, the roofing took about a day and a half; the exterior prepping, painting and gutter work took about 3 days; and the new fence was up in a couple of days (after waiting for the post's concrete to dry, before actual installation of the fence).
The roof is covered by two warranties: 1) A five-year contractor labor warranty and 2) A life-time shingle replacement warranty, by the manufacturer.
VIP Home Solutions had done excellent work for us, before. So, we decided to call them again, for the above installations and painting. We will use them, again, in the future. Naturally, we highly recommend their general contracting/remodeling services to all.
Yes, we had obtained bids from qualified Angie?s List contractors? but the day we intended to hire the more qualified company, they notified us they would be out of state, on a 3-week hunting and fishing vacation.
Since cool to cold weather would be settling in?and there were a number of outside projects that needed to be done, before winter, we had to make a decision. We chose to go with the next highest bidder. BIG MISTAKE!
On November 11, 2013, the former con man contractor, who used extremely deceptive practices?and ultimately caused over $75,000 in damages to our home and property?broke his contract and abandoned our job site.
Somehow, in the initial bidding-mix, we had missed Jim Smith, of VIP Home Solutions. He, his company, and crew ultimately came to our rescue.
Because of complications in dealing with the former contractor's liability insurance company and bonding/surety firm, it took over a year to settle claims due us? that would help initiate repairs to the massive number of botched jobs the former contractor and his so-called crew left behind.
Fortunately, we had a written contract with the former contractor and copies of two bonds (one of which turned out to be a worthless, misrepresented bond). Despite months of wrangling with insurance and surety reps, we eventually settled on amounts that would take care of some of the needed repair work.
VIP Home Solutions stuck with us, from the beginning (for nearly 14 months)... anytime an adjuster had to come out; anytime we needed a revised quote for the various insurers (who kept dragging their feet and delaying decisions anytime they could-- in their attempts to stretch decisions out past the Statute of Limitations); anytime our attorney needed quote verifications -- Jim Smith and his crew of experts would be there for us.
Eventually, after long delays, we received modest payments from the insurers. But, by then, extensive water damage had occurred, inside and out, that had to be dealt with--especially in our basement.
Before we could hire VIP Home Solutions, LLC, we had to hire a professional excavator to correct a very severe grading problem, with our side yard, and to correct reinstallation of our basement egress window (both problems created by the former contractor).
VIP Home Solutions came to the rescue, to attack a full list of remodel projects that needed to be completed.
Included in VIP?s remodel projects were:
· Complete remediation and partial re-installation of drywall; priming of our large basement walls (including entry room and staircase; family room; guest bedroom; security room; and full bath)
· Stippling of FR ,Office and Guest Room ceilings
· Extension and repair of a fake bathroom vent that was intended to be vented to the outside, but was never cut through
· Complete remediation of flooded basement office wall; full remodel and painting of our basement office; closet; floor and door trim
· Installed five basement doors and door handles
· Repaired/reframed the basement egress window, that the former contractor had framed with a hidden ?paper? wood product that soaked up water from the outside
· Electrical remediation of switches, plugs, and light fixture boxes in several rooms where the original contractor?s ?electrician? had botched the wiring jobs
· Installation of a new half-bath electrical wall fixture box and wiring of new switches
· Remediated and repaired hallway bath wall that had been left open by a plumber
· Remediated/repaired and installed new outdoor cedar soffit material, over patio French doors, that had been left open and exposed to weather
· Cleaned up, removed, and hauled away all trash
There are many more damaged projects?left over from the former contractor?that still must be remediated, but insurance money was not enough to cover it all.
When possible, we will definitely hire VIP Home Solutions, LLC to complete those projects, as well.
It is important to note that, from the beginning, everyone with VIP showed up on time (or were early). At no time did any of the crew show up late. There was never any sign of cigarettes/smoking on our property (which is just the opposite of the former crew
who even put their cigarettes out on our wooden porch trim, and left butts all over our property, no matter how much we asked them not to do so).
Jim, Pat, and Mike were always courteous, kind and caring. And they kept us informed every step, along the way. They even showed up on the Friday prior to starting the job, to plan out each step with crew members?and to prepare the job site, staging area?and us?for what was to come.
I must also mention that their courtesy extends from all members of their office team, as well?at the 540 N. Madison Street office, in Greenwood, IN (46142).
I cannot give any higher recommendation for VIP Home Solutions, LLC? well, maybe an A+++++ in every category!
Way to go, VIP!
[05/04/2015]
They came out and were very apologetic about the delay, but the home Show slammed them. I understand now and was happy to speak with Mike G from VIP. We spent a long time going over our laundry list of projects and are now waiting to have them back with a designer to look at possible plans for work. I will update this review as time goes on.
"Thank you so much! It is always a pleasure to work with you guys!"
The work took a bit longer than anticipated, but I had stressed to Jim that time was not a consideration, that quality was my only concern. Therefore, he took his time to get it absolutely right.
If you have a set timeframe that you want the work completed, I suggest you be very explicit about your expected deadline. I suspect that if he understands that tming is important to you he will meet his commitment to deadline.
