Asphalt Shingle Roofing - Install or Replace
Our roof recently sustained storm damage. Insurance authorized replacement. We were responsible for finding a contractor. My preference was to use a local contractor. Rick was among a list of local contractors our insurance adjuster provided that clients reported were satisfied with their work. We solicited quotes from 5 of which four responded. Rick was one of these. We chose Rick based on his reputation and reviews from recent clients. We were not disappointed. Rick and his crew were polite, responsive, let us choose our roof color, communicated very well, showed up when promised, completed the work quickly and cleaned up afterwards. The new roof looks great! We encountered no issues or problems. Overall, we are very pleased with the work performed. Rick met all of our expectations.

Rick Stephens did an outstanding job! I think I found less than 5 nails in my mulch after roof completion. Timely and easy to work with. After roof was on, we had the house painted. The paint matches the gutter perfectly. I could not be more happy and would highly recommend Rick Stephens again

New roof, siding, trim painting at my brother's house in Whiteland, IN. Work was performed in a timely manner with a high level of craftsmanship and quality materials. All scheduled work dates were kept. Would recommend to all looking for quality at a fair price.

I couldn't be happier! We gutted our kitchen and added some walls, and removed a wall. As drywall installation and finishing takes multiple trips to get the best finish, I was amazed they called every time to confirm visits, and called to let me know when they were done for the day. A scheduled trip was never missed which is unheard of in today's world. I had no problem leaving my home open for them on scheduled days. I see other reviews for them declaring scheduling conflicts and wonder how much of that could be a homeowner issue because I was completely satisfied.

Overall this was a nightmare experience. Rick and his team completed the work that should have taken 2 or 3 days in over a month. Also, the price we were charged was WAY above what the insurance estimate put it at. Lastly, Rick (the owner) was not easy to work with. We 100% WILL NOT use him again or recommend him to anyone we know. Steer clear of Rick Stephens unless you want to overpay for slow work with an unprofessional team.
Response from Rick Stephens Builder LLC
"This project did turn into a nightmare for us, too. Several trips are always required for any drywall project in order to get a good, smooth drywall finish ready for paint. Several trips are always needed to allow the drywall mud to dry properly between coats, and a separate trip just for sanding. Then priming and painting require 2 trips minimum to allow for proper drying. We would never tell a client that 2 or 3 days would be all that is needed for a project such as this, and it would be unrealistic to expect that short a timeline in order to achieve a professional result. The homeowner had out-of-town travel days during this project, and as we were not permitted access unless he was on-site, it became a scheduling nightmare for us to accommodate short-notice visits around his travels. Although there were a few incidents where we could not meet his short time-frame notifications, we made every effort to re-schedule other projects to bring this to completion. I will not address the pricing reference as it is false and all pricing was disclosed before commencing the project. Perhaps I was somewhat difficult to work with as I could not always work visits around his short-notice schedule, yet I tried exceptionally hard so we could complete this project and move on to other projects more easily scheduled."

When I hired them they said they would fit me in to their schedule but they did not give me a date and time. They showed up and jumped my fence to get into my back yard. Good thing I did not have a big dog behind the privacy fence at that time. They started their work one day and did not get the project done and left all kinds of tools and debris around my dog yard. I have several dogs and I had to take them out on a leash until they came back more than a week later to finish the project. After the project was complete, I found lots of roofing nails in the trim of my garage, did they need practice using their nail guns? Then I filled 2 large Ray's trash cans with all of the debris that they left behind. I picked up all of the cut off pieces of shingle and shingle wrappers, I went to TSC to buy a magnetic roller so that I could pick up all of the nails that were all over my dog yard. They did not follow the instructions on the job. When I called to talk to them about it, they were very rude and said that they gave me a good deal and I should be happy with the spotty work. It would not have been a good job if it was free, let alone several thousand dollars. A few weeks after the job was done someone with a similar description of the workers were attempting to break into the newly finished garage. Moral of the story don't use them, they are not professional and they were rude and did not want to resolve the issue.

Because I had successfully employed Rick to repair my roof in the past, I called him again. He traveled to Anderson twice to look at my roof and the rain damage to the interior of my house. He quoted me a price on the spot and fixed the roof the 2nd time he was there. The roof no longer leaks and one cannot tell from the outside appearance of the roof that it has been repaired. Personable, professional service with which I am very please. I will call Rick again if ever needed
