Was done on time, quickly, - too soon to see results.

Response from Primary Grounds
"Hi [Member Name Removed]- I appreciate your review on Angie's List but as a business owner, I feel like we have failed with a B rating. Could you please provide me with feedback that could have helped us achieve an A rating. Moving forward, our goal is to make sure you had a positive service experience with Primary Grounds and that all of your expectations were met to your satisfaction. Thank you, Scott Rau, owner"

The crew arrived and got right after the work.  One minor mix up on the plant order.  The crew leader brought the issue to my attention, gave me options and asked what I wanted to do.  The issue was resolved during their lunch break. Work was finished same day, just as some light rain started.  Crew were all hard workers and knew what they were doing.  Crew Leader Doug asked multiple times if everything was looking ok.

Amanda, estimator, showed up as she said she would to discuss job with the crew leader and checked in with me.

First work of this type we had ever contracted for, so was a bit surprised at the cost, but the work looks good.  Hoping the plants survive the winter.

We have used them for years. We live on a private lane, and somebody else on the lane used them, and the person we were using stopped mowing lawns due to health reasons, and so we approached this company, because our neighbor was pleased with them. Since we were not very far, they took us on, and we have had them now for at least 4 summers, and they have been excellent. We have a 5 acre property and they mow about an acre which is on a hill. We initially kept loosing people, because nobody likes mowing on a hill. This last summer when they came to mow, they felt it wasn't a good idea to mow on the hill, because the ground was too muddy, and their machine slipped into the ravine. They are very reliable, and the crew do excellent work. On the rare occasion that doesn't quite meet my husbands standards, he calls and speaks to the manager, somebody comes out and does it. They are very customer oriented, and they are ready to please. They don't charge us too much, and loosing us wouldn't put a dent in their pockets, but they still treat us like we are big customers. The crew are non English speaking Mexicans, but the crew manager speaks English, and they are in and out of our property within 15 to 20 minutes. Somebody does the front, someone the back, and someone does the trimming.

I didn't think enough rip rap was used and they didn't spread the fill dirt and straw the way I wanted it.

Slow start due to miscommunication but extremely cooperative and flexible. Very professional crews and management. Would have no problem using them in the future.

We have used them several times. They are very tidy.  They don't leave chemicals on the driveway, etc.

I moved into my current residence last year and they've already eliminated nearly all my weeds on a 1.75 acre lot. My grass is green, lush, and difficult to keep mowed since I started the treatments.  I had a special request due to a beehive on my property and Primary Grounds handled it without issue.

They have done work for us previously. They are very professional and conscientious about what they do. They listen to us and what our concerns and needs are. Pat Cooley is the landscape architect. He listened to what we wanted and tried to give us that. The workers were real good guys.

Very poor quality of service.  Unresponsive and unreliable.  Horrible experiences.  Lazy workers.  They cut corners, were very unreliable, took forever to get back with us on quotes, and made many promises they never kept.
Response from Primary Grounds
"I would like to express my appreciation for this feedback as it always helps to improve our service and ultimately our customers’ experience. I have personally investigated this series of incidents and have found that while our initial work order(s) had been followed to a tee, there was apparently a bit of miscommunication between the members of the household in terms of the scope of work to be performed. I apologize that this resulted in a disappointing experience. I hope that you can consider our extra efforts in order to make the situation better. I have quite a few records indicating work performed that was outside the original scope. None of this work was billed to my knowledge. Please feel free to reach out to me if there is anything else I can help with. Scott Rau President, Primary Grounds 317-422-9755"

Pat Cooley was great to work with on our project.  He was patient and knowledgeable in planning the changes desired and was willing to go the extra mile to be sure it was right.  I would certainly recommend Pat for future work.  We enlarged a couple of flower beds and replaced shrubs with those that required less maintenance in addition to mulching all trees and beds.  He was flexible in the pricing so I could make selections that fit our budget.

Overall, the service went well. I really liked their attention and endeavor to what really needed to be done from an overall drainage standpoint.

Pat Cooley, the landscape architect for Primary Grounds, visited to look at the existing landscaping and to learn how we wanted to change it. Pat came back a few days later with a beautiful color rendering of the design for our patio and landscaping. It was obvious from the design, Pat had listened to our ideas and understood what we wanted. He proposed a design that met all of our needs and was aesthetically better than anything we had envisioned. The work began and was completed within the time frame promised. The crew; Dan, Adam, and Gabe; did a wonderful job! They were conscientious and professional. Any questions or concerns we had were respectfully addressed by the crew. We are very happy with our new patio, the landscaping, and the whole experience. Family and friends are impressed with the quality of materials and workmanship. I highly recommend Primary Grounds.

The whole experience was positive from start to finish. I called PG and Scott gave me a verbal quote over the phone. Pat and Matt came out the following week and discussed the job in detail in with me. The following week Pat provided me a quote (which was lower than Scott originally quoted me) and let me know there would be about 4 weeks of lead time required for the job. After giving my approval to start the job, the crew arrived the week originally promised. Their work was fantastic. In addition to the quoted work, the guys grated a larger part of my gravel driveway at no charge. When the invoice arrived, the amount due was exactly what Pat originally quoted me.

They are in the process of doing the work - it is not complete yet. I don’t know the total cost of the project yet because we are still negotiating part of it right now. Their communication has been excellent and they’ve been keeping me updated as to their progress. They are extremely prompt in responding to questions and phone calls.

Update: July 2011.  The shrubs the planted are doing well, despite the harsh winter.  The landscape fabric is showing already in several places.  I am least satisfied with the lawn improvements.  I was told last year that my side yards, which were sparse, would be much improved by next spring, and they might also re-seed the sides to help that, if needed.  After some communciation issues, I was contacted by my project manager, and I asked him to come out and look at the lawn, because I felt that it was no better than last fall, but wanted this opinion.  He came out and looked at the lawn and said it looked great.

I have hired another service to re-seed my lawn.

It was getting close to my daughter's wedding dfay and I needed a yard service to trim everything in the front & badly overgrown back yard and replant areas in the flower beds where overgrown bushes had been pulled. The owner came promptly after I called to tour the yard for the estimate & advised me on work suggested to be done. The written estimate came quickly and was followed up as soon as possible with a crew of three who did an outstanding job of trimming and weeding in all the beds and small trees. The crew was very pleasant and even redid some bushes with a smile after the owner arrived & told them they needed to take off more growth, which we had discussed during the estimate tour. I was extremely pleased with their work. The thorough weeding resulted in 3 small plants I had recently planted being pulled, but it was a small price to pay for the quality of the work done. I would suggest you mark new growth that you don't want pulled. Afterwards, the landscaper returned to plant 13 new bushes/perennials as we discussed. The stock was a very nice size and all have grown well where they were planted. I am extremely pleased with this service & will definitely use them again for my landscaping needs.
