i got a granite bar top and a stainless steel bar sink and it looks fabulous. i will definitely us them again in the future.
We really enjoyed working with the staff of Natural Stone--they were very professional and helpful through the process as we'd not done a home project of this sort before. The process was very simple--we went to their location to decide on edge and sink styles, they referred us to a stone warehouse, we selected the granite and Natural Stone took it from there. My only complaint would be that the installation team itself was not punctual, nor did they practice great customer service. They installed the counter fine, but left a mess in the cabinets underneath the counter top and left very roughed up dry wall that required us to hire someone else to fix it. It would have been helpful to know that would be a possibility on the front end.
All in all, we do recommend Natural Stone, but more for their value and the quality of their office staff.
One of his suggestions for the bar top was to use metal supports instead of corbels to support the standing bar (15 " deep and 8' wide). He said they would be strong enough - and not seen.
Granite arrived in a timely fashion and the installers were here on time on April 21, 2011. They were pleasant.
It was later that we discovered problems.
When the original laminate bar top was removed, the installers did not cut through the caulking. So, when it came out, it damaged the drywall which they left unrepaired.
The metal supports were installed, but were very visible - unlike what we had been led to believe. The standing bar top (46 1/2" high), along with the lack of caulking, was easily noticeable from the dining room seats right next to the bar.
When the plumber arrived later that day to connect the new sink and garbage disposal, he pointed out that the proper clips had not been used to install the sink. Scrap pieces of wood had been nailed in place inside the cabinet to hold things up. The plumber further discovered that one of the nails driven through the scrap wood had pierced the water hose to the dishwasher and needed to be replaced.
Within a month or so, we noticed that the supports for the bar top were not holding it level. It was 3/8" difference from one side of the 15" granite to the other. Several phone calls were made to the company with no response. A trip was also made to the office and we discovered that they had moved back to Franklin from Greenwood. Then, we drove to that office but only spoke to the assistant. We were told that the owner would call when he returned. We received no call. Since we were working with an interior designer who had recommended this company, we asked him for his assistance. He placed a phone call and spoke with the office assistant who said that the owner would call back. After a week and no call, a second call was made by the decorator. This time, the assistant set a date for them to come out to look at the problem. The owner did not come out, but sent the original two installers. After much discussion, they decided to make the repair by placing 1/4" of shims between the metal supports and the granite. Better - but still not level. As they left, it was pointed out that they had not caulked, and the shims made the supports even more obvious.
To rectify the problem, we contacted another company to level the top and install corbels.
Just before Thanksgiving, we noticed the grout/caulking between the backsplash and granite countertop had cracked from one end to the other. Upon inspection by the second company, we were told that because the cabinets had not been leveled (a responsibility of the granite installers), the cabinets were pulling away from the wall. To solve this problem, much additional work will need to be done by the second company.
We are very disappointed in the lack of professionalism and workmanship of Natural Stone Creations.
We feel that if the owner had contacted us about our concerns or if he had inspected his installers' work, we would have had a completely different experience - and possibly some of the difficulties could have been avoided.
