Earl Grey & Sons did the plumbing on my new home built in 2015. I’ve been having issues with the whole upstairs backing up into the bathtubs and showers and toilets with raw sewage and had another company come out for inspection. after they snaked lines, removed a toilet, and went through with a camera they found that the plumbing wasn’t installed correctly. It wasn’t angled down enough for things to flow all the way down to the main line and over time, it caused a bunch of gunk to build up in the pipes. When I called Earl Grey & Sons to ask them to repair their mistake, they told me that they couldn’t have done that, because ‘the house wouldn’t have passed inspection if that were true’, and then they hung up. Clearly it is true, because I am now having to pay over $3,000 to replace all of my upstairs plumbing. Then I will have to pay someone else to come in and repair the huge holes being cut into my living room and guest room ceilings to access the pipes. Any business who outright refuses to acknowledge the possibility of making a mistake is shady, if you ask me. People make mistakes, and when we have professionals stating that this is the problem along with video footage showing it, they are clearly just trying to cover their own behinds and not have to do any work for free...even though they should! They’re fully to blame. Do not use them if you want quality work that they stand behind!

We purchased a new home and they did the plumbing and so we added a one year warranty for anything that went wrong so we had an alarm going off and I don't know anything about plumbing so the alarm was going off. I called and I asked him if it was the sump pump and I explained to them what it was and they said it's no way it could look like that and I said well it does and so I explained to him again he said just plug it back in and if it goes off then call us. So I did and then we couldn't flush the toilet in the basement so the sent somebody out and said that the injector burned up and it burned up because I plugged it back in which I plugged it back in because he told me to and he said well he didn't know what your referring to and I said well it's your job to know, I mean that's why I'm not  plumber that's why we hire plumbers. So they ended up charging me $750  which I was really really angry about because they caused the problem and then I had to pay for it and the didn't tap it into the warranty work because they said that it was my error and my error because I did what the guy told me to do.

Every thing else was really good, to me $750 was a huge deal so that's why I give them, I can't give them an F because that they've done, the interactions with the technician has been outstanding and the work itself has been very good too, I just didn't want to pay for it I shouldn't have to pay for it.

They were on time, laid out plastic around area to protect flooring, jack-hammered 1.5' diameter hole in slab, found leak, repaired copper line, back-filled and cemented hole and were done in less time than they the initial estimate, about 4 hours. The serviceman was very polite and knowledgeable. Original estimate was about $850, final bill was $550. Great job, would definitely use them again!

We had a new counter top and sink installed and needed the plumbing reinstalled. They gave us an estimate and then came back the next day to complete the work. They were prompt, professional and prepared.

We called for an after hours service because our outbound sewage was stopped.  The tech arrived a few hours after the initial call as he had to drive from Bloomington to Fishers.  As soon as he arrived, he complained about being called away from dinner and driving "all the way up here".
The tech, Greg Chastain, ran a snake out towards the street and couldn't find a clog.  He said that someone would have to come out some tine the next day.  He said he didn't have the right equipment on his truck.  When I suggested he contact someone that would have the right equipment, he got angry and said he was the only one on call and again complained about having to make the drive.  When I asked for a time, he refused to even make a call to get a better time estimate.  I got upset and asked him to leave.
When I went to go into my house, I went through the garage door and started closing the door.  Mr Chastain then proceeded to trip the safety mechanism on the garage door, cursing at me and demanding payment.  I told him I wasn't goign to pay that night, as nothing had been fixed.  He continued cursing at me and I again asked him to leave.  He walked out of the garage cursing at the top of his lungs at 10PM.  He sat in his truck in front of our house until I called the after hours dispatch and told them that he was making me very nervous and I was getting ready to call the police.
I have made several phone calls regarding the $120 bill I received for the tech's trip out.  Each call has produced a belligerent response from several people within the organization.  The service manager, John Bennett, promised a return call after he spoke with the tech.  He has never called.
I have also left a voice mail for Mark Gray, asking for a return call so this situation could be discussed.  I have not heard back from him either.
I have been a faithful customer of Earl Gray and Sons for over 15 years.  I have never had any issues with anyone on their staff until now.  Something major has changed with this company and I will no longer do business with them.  It's quite sad that they are unwilling to make a phone call and try and make things right with a long term customer.

"We received a call during after hours emergency service. After running a large sewer machine to try and clear the clog we found additional cable was needed to complete service. Offered to return in morning to solve issue homeowner refused service. Home owner refused to pay after hours service charge and asked us to leave the property. We did not charge for clearing drain because service was incomplete at time of refusal to allow us to continue. we only charged for emergency service call. We can not refund what we did not collect."

The employee that came out for the installation was very nice, professional and prompt. However, approximately a week after installation, we went down into the basement and noted a big pool of water in our basement, and investigated that it appeared to be coming from the water softener, from a screw that did not appear to be tightened during the installation. My husband called and left a message, that was never returned. I called to follow-up, requesting that someone come out and take a look as it could be an issue with the installation. I was told it would be $89 to come out and that it was not an installation issue, but one with the water softener and that I would need to investigate it with the manufacturer. We purchased a year maintenance agreement for our back up sump pump, however will not be renewing, and will not be recommending this provider to any friends/neighbors as apparently they do not stand behind their work. Very disappointed.

Response from Earl Gray & Sons INC
"I am sorry you feel this way. We do stand behind our work. We installed a water softener that was provided by you. Had our company supplied the water softener any problem that would arise would be fully warranted. The $89 dollar charge would be charged if the problem was the softener. If the problem is with the installation Earl Gray and Sons would have corrected it at No Charge to you. Our products we supply are backed by ours and the manufacturers warranty. Thank You"

In both houses that were roughed in and finished by Earl Gray & Sons, we had leaks immediately after closing as well as larger leaks closer to a year later.  Some leaks were minor and I fixed easily on my own (i.e. a fitting not tightened enough in Master Bathroom sink).  Another small leak in the kitchen sink required them to pull the drain and re-putty it.  But a larger leak in our shower drain caused ceiling damage to 1st floor (in our first home), and a leak in our guest bath caused damage to 1st floor (in our second home).  We also moved in with no hot water.  The service guy was great and was able to reprogram it (apparently it was shipped from the factory without the programming), which means they never tested to ensure it worked before they left.  With multiple leaks in multiple homes, I can't recommend their work for new construction.  Their service team always came back and fixed it to our satisfaction, but I was disappointed with their first time quality.

Earl Gray Plumbing installed the garbage disposal in my house when my house was built in 2005.  My garbage disposal was clogged and backed up with water.  This was a situation I caused when I put potato peels through the disposal.  When I scheduled a service call, I was originally told a tech would be out between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. That was ok with me, however, the service tech came much earlier, about 11:00 AM.  I was delighted.

Incidentally, I tried to unclog the garbage disposal myself by using the allen wrench on the bottom of the disposal and pushing the reset button.  It did not work this time, so I called the plumber.

He gave me an estimate and then reduced it $20 when he realized he unclogged the drain with just using a plunger.  I was very happy with the service.  I would call them again if I ever need a plumber.

Simply put, use an Angies list A+ vendor, this company will not stand behind (or for that matter anywhere near) their work
The plumber came and gave me a quote and informed me during the quote that it was larger job and he would have need a helper, hence the cost, I figured the price was fair and they had done good work on the main part of the house so I went against my better judgement in getting a second qoute and called and set the work up. I wasn't overly impressed with the plumber they sent over, he was not a happy guy and you could tell he either hated his job or his life (I think it was the Job based on how the company appears to treat their workers). We scheduled the work and it was to begin Tuesday May 28, 2013. The plumber showed up around 9 a.m. but without a helper. I wondered how he would do the shower install, later that day my father and I had to stop what we were working on and help him position the shower base (not a big deal, but I was paying for them to do it). The plumber did most of the rest of the work and then around 4-5pm said he was leaving and that he would have to come back to finish up the main water line hookup, he told me to call the office in the morning and set it up. I had already taken Tuesday and Wednesday off to work on the house, so no big deal  On his way out the plumber told me I could go ahead and install the two end pannels of the shower (agian, not a hard task, but I paid them to do this, so I wasn't happy). I called the office the next morning to schedule him and they said he couldn't be back until Friday. Now I had to take another day off because they screwed up.
Friday comes and he shows up around 9 a.m., I am in the middle of putting the ends pannels up and he comes and and says he could take care of it (good that is what I paid them for). I showed him an issue with the end pannels not fitting properly, he said the manufacturer must have screwed up when they made it and I would just have to caulk the 1/2" gap between the shower base and wall panel. I didn't like it but figured he knew what he was doing, only later did I take a level to the shower base figured out the problem; he hadn't leveled the base and it was slanted thus the pannels did not fit in right.

I had one last water supply line to hook up for my fridge after everything else was done; the plumber had installed a shut-off valve (for some reason a turn valve that didn't match the rest of the house's push/pull shut-offs) for the hard water supply that I was going to hook up to a water line and drinking water faucet. I finally got around to picking the supply lines up last week and put them on this last weekend (06/30/2013) and turned the water supply on at the shutoff under the sink that was installed by Earl Gray, there was a large leak coming from the water shut-off valve, I turned the water back off and the leak stopped, I called Earl Gray on Monday 07/01/2013 and informed them that shut-off valve was leaking and they sent a plumber out today to look at it. The plumber gets to my house and says it will cost more to install a push/pull shut-off than replace the existing with another turn valve...More???... I said it shouldn't cost me anything, it was a warranty issue and it was their shuttoff that has failed. He said that since I had put the supply line on that the warranty was void....are you kidding me. That is like saying if I had a bad toilet supply line and put a new one on for my the remainder of the plumbing is not longer under warranty.
NOTE: They were hired by the builder, M/I, and the construction plumbers did a great job on the main part of the house, but don't hire the normal residintial side (they know if they did this to a builder they would lose them as a client, but forget them for any residential service)
Response from Earl Gray & Sons INC
"[member name removed] we are sorry for any inconveinence. The shut off valve in question that goes to the icemaker you attempted to hook up is being replaced at no cost to you. Earl Gray was the plumber for our new home construction.  We moved in on March 28, 2012.  Around March of 2013 I noticed water leaking from the undermounted kitchen sink down into the cabinet.  Since it was still under warranty, i contacted earl gray.  They sent a guy out and he applied additional silicone around the seal.  He explained that sometimes the sink will settle and pull away from the countertop, especially since it's an undermount sink, and pull away from the original silicone.  Though i would have rather have not had this happen after only a year, it made sense.  The tech sent out was clean, professional, and performed the very basic repairs to my satisfaction.  My initial phone call to schedule the work was handled professionally with no issues.  I would use them again.

"We thank you for your understanding. The sink installation is not an item that we install. It was no problem to take care of this for you. Thank you."

Excellent experience! I had a water purifier system I needed installed at my kitchen sink. A very nice, well groomed gentleman came out on time to do the work. (It's been a few months now and I forgot his name.) As he worked, he found I did not have a specific tube he said I should have in the kit. I did not know if I had it or where it would be. He made a call to the owner and had him make a special trip across town to my home with the tubing. After a few weeks went by, I found the tubing they needed in my basement. Although they could have charged me for that extra trip, they did not and the work was performed perfectly. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them.

My father and I hired Earl Gray & Sons to do a complete plumbing and
HVAC renovation in my house in Indianapolis.  The home was built in
1867 and had a lot of issues that had to be handled to even start the
work.  Earl Gray & Son's were very professional and did the work in
the scheduled time.  They actually completed the work early and below
the estimate.  We have sense hired them to do a water heater and a sump
pump install.  My father and I always use them and recommend them to
everyone.

Carl came out and was professional and courteous. He drilled a hole in our kitchen sink and installed the water purifier. We then discovered we were missing a special tubing that comes with the kit I did not have. Since he had to go to Avon next, Mark made a special trip up from Franklin to Westfield with the tubing I should have had and did not charge me for the trip. Both guys were wonderful to talk with and and a pleasure to work with. Would highly recommend.

They had a technician come by later that day at 5:30 and said that he could get it to work through the weekend. He said it wouldn’t be til the next week that they could get a part in to fully fix the problem. They never showed up monday when they said they would because the part was delivered somewhere else by mistake. They said they would be out today between 10am and 12pm and haven’t showed up yet. Every time I talk to them about it they act very lacsidasical about everything. They seem like they don't care and I haven’t had water for four days.

After 20 days after we moved into our new house, the faucet came off. They are the contractor our builder used. My husband called and they insisted it s not an emergency since we can turn off the water. After some argument, they agreed to come fix it soon. It turned out the person totally forgot to screw the faucet when set it up. Then after two months, the kitchen sink started leaking down water to our cabinet and when I called they said it s not an emergency again and can only give me five hour range for the arrival time. I can t imagine what a lousy job they ve done. I bet the builder must have got big discount of using their service as contractor. But I won t use them after the warranty expires. Wish the market competition can eventually reduce the number of such bad companies.
Response from Earl Gray & Sons INC
"The policies with our builders is a 24 hour response to the customer. Leaks and drain clogs are emergency situations. A loose faucet is not considered an emergency. You also stated you paid too much. There was no charge on this call being the fact that it was under your new home warranty. Thank You"

I called them on a Thursday at 9. They said the appointment would be between 10 and 5, they came at two. They did the work for the estimated cost. They were the original installer of my heater. Brett came on time, inspected the heater, showed me why it needed to be replaced. I felt they were forthright and there was a real reason to have it replaced. Within two hours I had the new water heater. Brett was careful to make sure moving the old unit and new unit did not make a mess. He was careful with my home and cleaned well afterwards. He clearly explained to me the differences between the old and new units and gave advice for how to maintain it. He helped me understand it with a sense of humor. He had a great attitude and sense of professionalism, indicated by his policy that he does not smoke on the job, despite my offer to let him. There were no surprises, I will definitely use him again. You can really trust them!
