I neglected to review TCS two years ago when I first learned of them on Angie's List. I was very impressed at the time, and it's why I called them back. Two years ago, they were one of the only firms in town that had employees who knew how to deal with oil furnaces, which aren't all that common around here, and they were able to service and repair one in an investment property that I own. It ran beautifully for two more years. When that furnace, perhaps 30-40 years old, failed recently (cracked heat exchanger), I called them.
Ideally I would have liked to convert to natural gas, but given that it's winter and the fact that I have paying tenants who cannot go without heat, I had to do what was simplest and easiest. It would have taken a month or more for the gas company to bring gas lines to the house from the road, and there was no guarantee that it wouldn't take longer than that, so I decided that another oil furnace would buy us some time until we could eventually make that transition while not under duress. Even so, I'm not all that sure I'd want to change to natural gas yet. The oil furnace gives off a wonderful, warm heat and makes the environs very comfy when the thermostat is set in the low to mid sixties. There is also a heat pump, so the oil furnace is really an auxiliary heat source. The heat pump, however, is also fairly ancient and will need replacement in order to be compatible with the new furnace and I'm having TCS install that too in the near future. I'll let you know how that goes.
TCS also proposed the options of conversion to LP gas or an electric forced air furnace, but after looking at fuel prices historically, I found that fuel oil is still the better alternative. In fact oil prices are better than they've been in years, whereas LP prices always get jacked in the wintertime regardless. LP conversion would also have necessitated placement of a new fuel storage tank, which would have been unsightly and also would have required placement far from any potential ignition sources. As for electric forced air, that's the most expensive way to go. All around, it seemed to make the most sense to stay with oil at this time.
They installed a new Armstrong oil furnace, the same brand it replaces, and it fit perfectly into the space previously occupied without requiring any architectural modifications. (A tight space, I should add.) It runs more quietly and it should be trouble-free for a long time.
All in all I'm impressed with TCS' promptness and professionalism and the quality of their work is excellent. I say this as someone who has utilized the services of some of the bigger and better-known names around here in HVAC in years past. They were acceptable. TCS is exceptional.

TCS was one of three bids for this project. They were not the cheapest, but in the end they had the the best salesman and service. Mel provided five options; each with a summery of power, comfort level, and price for our project. He also calculated operating cost estimates for each system based on average temperatures, and fuel/energy type, cost and efficiency. Billie, our installer worked quickly, and was neat and patient with our questions. The only thing that was out of the ordinary was that at the conclusion, we didn't get our house key back (it was lost) so we ended up replacing all the locks.

They gave me the quote and got the products in. They showed me how to test the thermostat. When I had a problem, they came out right away; it was a chance thing. They took care of me; they are available practically night and day. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.
