Unfortunately, we found Hoosier Lawn Service to be both unprofessional and unethical. After quoting a price of $945.00 for spring cleanup, they performed one of the worst jobs ever on our yard, and then billed us for the exorbitant amount of $2,615.00 (more than 2 1/2 times the agree price), even attempting to use a lawyer to extort their ridiculous fee. The following excerpt from my letter to their attorney describes the shoddiness of their work in detail: " 1) your use of improperly trained personnel (one of whom was so bad he only lasted three days in your employment and another of whom was put on “probation” by your company for ten days according to your employee Larry and Mr. Chase Jones), (2) lack of a supervisor or any employee with minimally adequate landscaping experience present for the backyard work (according to your employee/supervisor Larry), (3) failure to apply pre-emergent in backyard beds (which, according to video footage, were crawling with grass and weeds within days of the performed “work”, and for which I have paid $123.00 for repeated applications of weed and grass killer that I have spent hours applying personally all summer), (4) failure to edge and define all landscaping beds, because your company, by admission of your own personnel, did not own or have access to the proper equipment (which I had pay another company $500 to finish), (5) uneven application of mulch in all beds (we requested 1 1/2 inches of mulch; however, in many areas the depth was over double that amount and in a few areas, there was no mulch at all), (6) charging for unnecessary and excessive yards of mulch, (7) charging for excessive man-hours, and (8) charging for excessive dumping fees because your company used a ridiculously small truck bed (by local and industry standards) for removing brush. Three of your own employees agreed with me that the work performed on our yard was exceptionally poor. I also have had to replace perennials, including the contents of an entire herb garden, that were accidentally removed by your crew, as well as a pair of long handled pruners and a shovel that disappeared from my yard during the first day of work (I assume by accident, of course, as your employees, although unskilled, most certainly are not dishonest)."

Owner never came out to look at area to be worked-all over phone. Crew came out while I was at work, looked great when I came home, but soon after weeds were popping up through the mulch and didn’t take long befor it was all overgrown again. I would have appreciated if the owner had taken the time to do a walk around with me, and he could have given me a better idea on how it would be done and the amount of mulch needed.

Hoosier Lawn Services did a good enough job when they showed up. The problem is they are generally unreliable in terms of showing up whenever they please. Also, they had some issues with billing where services performed 7 months ago were billed recently. Overall, unprofessional and unresponsive. I discontinued my services with them.

We had an appointment for Mon., Oct. 9 but he was a no show. About a week before that a crew showed up to mow which is not what I needed. He never called or contacted me in any way and doesn't respond to my email. I am canceling and requesting a refund.

Had to contact after a month after purchasing the service to get something going. They said Angie's List had not given them information. Set up a time and nobody showed. Nobody called afterward. We had to call a second time. They came out and were very condescending saying they would not do anything usually for less then 10 grand and they prefer to do doctors and lawyers mostly. Then, they still didn't provide plans which was what we purchased. Had to call again just to get them to send something. It was a very slopped together presentation. We am sorry we ever used Angie's List to find these people.

They did an excellent job. They worked fast and efficiently. My only concern was that they cut down the weeds as opposed to pulling them. The boss explained that the weeds wouldn't grow again before spring because we were due for a frost that night. Then in the spring, we will treat with Preen, weed-killer where needed, and mulch. We'll see how that goes. When everything was done they packed up all the cuttings and the leaves they raked and took it all away! We are very happy with the results.

Greg is a pleasure to work with.  He is very responsive and communicates well.  The team was punctual, did a great job and cleaned up well after the job was complete.  I would highly recommend them, and will use them again myself.

Team was efficient, cleaned up well and the yard looks great. Hoosier has been working on my lawn for a month, and it is really turning out great. Greg is great to deal with whenever I have a question. I would recommend Hoosier to anyone.

Greg is always pleasant to deal with. His team is great and always courteous when I talk with them. There have been several times when I've had to call Greg at the last minute, and his team always shows up and performs the work to my satisfaction. There was one time where I didn't think they finished a small section of my yard. The team can back out the very next day and exceeded my expectations.

They showed up when promised. They worked fast, but that didn't negatively impact the quality of their work. I would definitely use them again.

They have done my lawn for 15 years and it is two and a quarter acres. They do everything. They are dependable. They do what they say they are going to do, and they come on time.

These folks are well-meaning, but they appear to be understaffed with high ambitions.  If you ask them anything, they can do it.  But, when comes around to actually "doing it", not so much.  After the lawn was mowed for $40, I hired them to trim evergreen shrubbery.  Some of you know that evergreen shrubs need hand trimmed.  Well, now my formerly gorgeous 6 evergreens that took 4 years to mature, have been shaved with a hedge trimmer into balls, no where near they true shape.

When I saw what the nice young man had done, I told him the day was over and he could not approach my shrubs again.  He - and HLS's owner (Greg Doublas) said shrubs, any kind, are always shaved into balls, just like all the other companies in FW do it (not true).

Last they "edge" with a weed whacker not an edger.  Whacking your grass to the ground near sidewalks, etc., is what they call edging.  BTW, their prices (other than for mowing) change from day to day, over time.  Last, they subcontract lawn fertilization.  I did not know that until I came home and found yellow flags around my yard.  The company they use is not on my "favorites" list so I asked the owner not to send them here again but, he did.  He said it was because he had had a small medical procedure and he forgot to tell them.

Re the shrubs, owner Greg agreed with the worked that the shrubs would be replaced.  They never were.  Greg came to my house to tell me the shrubs were "lush" and he refused to live up to his promise.  Little round shrubs are not "lush".  He said he would bring an arborist by to prove him right.  The arborist supposedly had Purdue degrees (?).  To my knowledge that did not happen.

Here's the upshot:  I was billed astronomical amounts for the very work I took issue with.  I paid for the mowing and weeding, and other chores that Larry, head supervisor, had quoted, I agreed on, and he performed well.  Greg, the owner or father of owner, pursued me with mailed invoices and letters.  I paid for everything but what was in dispute.  He continued to mail letters saying "you must pay..." etc.  Then he came over and that ended with raised voices and my telling him to leave my property.  Then he stood in the street to yell.  I finally sent him the Uniform Commercial Code that explains why my payment was legally all I had to pay.  Finally, he was silent.  WOW, never again.

Response from Hoosier Lawn Services
"I am Greg Doublas, Manager of Hoosier Lawn Services I want to make it clear that we appreciate and value all our customers. All work we receive we consider it to be a gift from the Lord, and thus are very appreciative and responsible. In the case of [Member Name Removed], we did do good quality of work and were very careful to fulfill all her special needs and requirements during mowing and when she asked us to trim her bushes. But somehow after trimming, she claimed that some of her bushes were damaged. Despite my explanation and reasoning she insisted to the contrary. However an experience horticulturalist, who saw the plants, confirmed that no damage was done. [Member Name Removed] simply did not want to pay the cost for trimming . Also, [Member Name Removed] stated that I stood by the street and "yelled" and that she told me to "leave her property" that is absolutely NOT true."

Greg (the owner) gave me a great price to do my yard. I explained that I am disabled and would not have the money till the 1st of the month. He said that was fine. In a few min. he called me back & said God told him to do it for free!

Out of five vendors I called, Greg was the first to call me back, first to give an estimate, most fair price and by far the nicest. His team was quick and respectful. We will definitely hire again for various projects.
