Bill was great to work with. Very responsive and did what he said he was going to do, and for a fair price.

First of all, in my experience, if the handyman service doesn't answer the phone and you have to leave a message, don't hold your breath waiting for them to get back to you.  I called 2 highly rated services on Angie's List and no one called back.  I finally decided to start hanging up on any service that didn't answer the phone.  Bill answered and arranged to come out.  He did the work quickly and efficiently and the charge was reasonable.  He's also a nice guy.  I'd use him again.

Mr. Burtt was very responsive to the request.  He met all the objectives of the project. And was timely on return of the chest.  His mannerism was very amiable and was very knowageble.

Mr. Burtt was prompt in coming out to look over the project, and then prompt to do the work - the very next day.  I had requested that the access panel be inconspicuous, and had to really look carefully to find it.  Mr. Burtt did the work faster than he said he would, and even tidied up another blemish left by the deck crew, where the metal frame to a sliding door had been pulled loose.  We have used him for door installations and other odd jobs in the past, and will gladly do so for other jobs in the future.

He did a great job, was very prompt with his estimate & completed the job very quickly.  We were very happy with the job he did & would have him again if needed.  He is an excellent trim carpenter and we would highly recommend him.

This was the second difficult job Mr. Burtt has done for me and both were completed expertly.

Bill took the pieces away and 6 days later he came back and expertly rehung the repaired door.  This was not an easy job.  He knows what his is doing with fine woodwork and also as a handyman to buy the correct new hinges and then hang it straight again.  I give top honors to this guy.  He's really good at what he does, and is nice guy besides (looks a little like Santa with his white beard!)

I called Mr. Burtt and set up an appointment, for an estimate.   Mr. Burtt arrived on time.  He closely inspected the windows.  He did not just glance a them.  He concisely explained my options.  Mr. Burtt did not pressure me.  I felt I was well informed when I made my decision to have him do the work.   Mr. Burtt did quality work.  The work was completed on time and on budget.  I would use him again.

It went well.  Bill was responsive to the initial contact and came out to the house the same day to look at the project.  He 'got it' quickly in terms of what was needed to re-do the facia (a door) of a cabinet to accommodate a new television.  We agreed on an approach and he took the old door with him.  He indicated he had some other jobs he was working and would be back with me within a couple of weeks.  About ten days later, he called and said he had the new door ready and came over with it the next day. Some additional shelving for the unit was necessary (as expected) and he fabricated that on site completing the project on that visit.
If you need finish carpentry work done- this is your guy!

I wanted a gate for the top of my basement stairs and wanted something more permanent than a baby gate.  I found Bill's name on Angie's List and gave him a call.  I described what I had in mind and we set up an appointment for the next day.  Bill came out and we talked about some ideas, he took some measurements and said he would work up a price and e-mail it to me.  I received that a few days later and thought the price was very reasonable.  He came out again to double check measurements, made an additional suggestion regarding the design, which I thought was a great suggestion, and said he would start work on my project as soon as he finished his current job.  Bill actually made the gate in his workshop and came out today to install it.  He had to work around an already existing handrail and decorative baseboard/moulding.  The gate fit perfectly and looks as though it's always been there.  I had also mentioned that I'd like to add a handrail to the steps from the garage into the house to make it easier for my 92 year old mother to get inside.  He had some extra wood at home and brought that to make the handrail, at no expense to me.  Bill is knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant to talk to.  I would definitely use him again and would not hesitate to recommend him to my friends.

After absorbing a break-in/burglary and reaching out to Bill for help, he came out the very next day (a Saturday) and provided a preliminary assessment of what would need to be done to secure the property again. He followed up a few days later, via e-mail, with a cost estimate that allowed us to make a contracting decision. The next week, Bill visited the house again to settle on the doors that would be ordered and we agreed that we would purchase the locks and handsets ourselves for him to install when he returned with the doors. Severe winter weather and illness prevented the installation from occurring in the agreed-upon timeframe, but when Bill returned with the doors, he was able to complete the service to our satisfaction in one day. Bill was personable and professional and followed through on the scope of work that we contracted him for. While we understand that weather and illness contributed to a delay from what we had originally expected, this created quite an inconvenience for our household management (couldn't use our back door for 4 weeks) and was the primary downside of our service experience. Our only other minor complaint was that Bill left many of the packaging materials and refuse from the installation in our recycle bin for us to clean up. We would certainly hire Bill again to do similar work and were pleased overall with his level of service.

From my experience a continued issue with contractors that are happy to make the big bucks on the major repair. However, when you do need some additional follow-up they go radio silent.
Response from William L Burtt
"I warrent my work for an indefinite time period. In fact, I returned to the member's mothers home and adjusted the door in question at least two times over a two year period at no cost to anyone. The reason for the adjustments relate to the normal wearing-in period. Upon receipt of the last phone call, I returned her call to the number from which she called me (her mother's home). The member's mother does not speak english, so, I spoke with the member's brother about the problem, and he indicated he would make sure that she received my message. At this time, I am still waiting for the member to return my call. I am very offended that I have been put into a catagory whereby I only "sell the big bucks" but am unwilling to follow-up as requested. Frankly, I have yet to go "radio silent"."

"I am sorry that the Member did not contact me over a year ago at the time I completed his job so that we could have discussed his project. I would have been more than happy to work with him and to meet his job expectations."

Mr. Burtt was attentive to details and offered helpful suggestions that saved us money. He came back promptly to address a minor adjustment that needed to be made to a closet door. We have used him for at least three other handy man jobs since then.

I found Bill's name on Angie's List and read the reviews. I called Bill and he was out of town but he called me as soon as he returned. Bill came to our house to look at our entertainment cabinet and said he could redo it to fit our new TV. Bill redid the cabinet and did a great job. We will definitely call Bill if we need further carpentry done and recommend him to others. Nancy Johnson

Broad Ripple house with dangerous, old basement stairs. I wanted to have new stairs built and the door at the top widened. Mr. Burtt noted that I could use one of the 'extra' doors already in the basement for this purpose (the other guy who gave me an estimate wanted to charge me $250 for a new door). Excellent work, fair price, and a very nice man!
