The first impression of Universal was very good. Tom Bartlett seemed very accommodating to help me as the temperature was getting hotter and I have an in-home business. When the unit was installed he was not on site for the job and the unit was not leveled correctly and the condensation pipe back-flowed into the unit. The "old" condensation tubing was used as well as the old duct work. The unit was installed but the days cooled. The unit was turned off for 3 days and when turned back on it leaked so much condensation that it flooded basement by about 1/2-1 inch. With the carpet wet, Tom blamed the old sump pumps and the drain of the unit. Without checking the new heat pump, he installed new sump pumps and removed carpet (cleaning and drying carpet was never given as an option), but left trim work and carpet tacks. The next morning more water appeared throughout basement and Tom said there may be a foundation crack. I turned the air conditioning unit off and dried the floor before a heavy rain came through my area. In the morning the entire basement was totally dry. I turned unit back on and within 2-3 hours there was a puddle under the unit about 5 ft wide. Tom still denied the unit was the problem. At this point I would not allow him on my property any more due to his use of curse words and insulting banter (telling my ex-husband who came to help me talk with Tom, "No wonder you couldn't stay married to her.") I am pursuing a credit card payment dispute with this company and would NOT recommend them in any way for any work, especially if you are a single woman. Tom totally took advantage of my lack of understanding of what he was d*** and now that I have had 2 additional "second opinions," it just confirms that Universal is NOT a competent contractor to use.
Description of Work: New heat pump unit was installed and flooded the basement. Universal was certain it was due to bad sump pumps. After new sump pumps were installed and carpet was removed, water continued to leak and created mold throughout the basement. The entire basement will need to be replaced and Universal will not take responsibility for their actions.
