.  The estimate we were given did not include several necessary expenses, i.e. trim installation, etc so therefore was much lower than the competition.  We were not at all informed consumers unfortunately and didn't know the necessary steps to to remodel a home with these issues.  Essentially we had to research everything that was done to the home because the contractor was totally uninformed about the process.  I believe he is much more skilled in building new homes, not remodeling.  For example, the home had "popcorn' ceilings that needed to be smoothed and resurfaced.  He wanted to sand them down.  After researching ourselves, we found that this would create a horrible mess and would be un necessary.  It is much better to wet them and scrape them.  Other contractors told us the project should take about 3 months and we are now on month 6 and the project is still not done.  Sub-contractors have not shown up, have stolen from us, etc.  I would NEVER wish this experience on anyone.  Yes, the contractor is a very nice, kind person, but does not have any business remodeling homes.  I wish we would have paid more and avoided this experience.  It was horrible.
