We have solid oak floors that were 22 years old. Denny and his crew came and re-sanded the floors, and replaced the carpeting in the living room and dining room with matching oak. Then they refinished everything. It looks spectacular! You can't tell that there was carpeting in the other rooms, everything flows seamlessly. We changed the finish color, and asked the guys to help us figure out what color to use. They asked us a few questions, and then came back from the truck with 4 colors, and all 4 seemed perfect. They really simplified the decision making process for us, which we really appreciated. They accommodated our schedule, so we could be out of town while they worked. We didn't worry a bit about being away when they came. Came back to beautiful gleaming floors! Denny and the entire crew are extremely polite, professional, and very patient (we had lots of questions). I am so glad we called them! I highly recommend them and would definitely have them back, if we need this done again. Thank you, Mr. Denny!

Working with AG&Sons was a great experience. From start to finish they did exactly what they said they would do, when they said they would do it, and it was all done as we discussed. I am thrilled with my floor refinish result. There's only one downside - their work is so good now the other floors that I thought looked pretty decent before - not so much! Glad to have found these guys and I'd definitely recommend them!

Customer service was great from start to finish. Workers were extremely friendly and on time. Job was 3 fold. Part 1...Sand down the affected area to bare wood, stain and seal. Clean up of dust from the area afterwards would have been appreciated. Part 2. Lightly sanded the remainder of floors and seal again. Floors look great overall. VERY HAPPY However, attention to small details could have been better. Only i notice this. Part 3 The striped area turned out a lighter color than the rest of the floor. Denny ,the owner, sent the men out again to get a better match. THEY DID! Denny made sure I was happy BEFORE he charged me the remained of the cost. Toe strips were not included in the project. They did leave me brushes and sealer so that everything matched. I WOULD HIRE AGAIN WHICH I HAVE!!! AGAIN, great customer service.

To start with this is an outstanding flooring company to work with ... bar none! They have two "excellent" finishers in Dennis & Derek. They both have a great skill set in finish coating wooden floors especially Dennis. Derek is one's best partners that anyone could have in any business. He treats everything like it is his own. Jamie is the floor Sander. Handles the Sander with outstanding skill and precision. Very good at what he does. No muss no fuss. Mark runs the crews and will give estimates. Mark is a "great" communicator. He won't brush the "little things" aside. Been with company for over 30 years. Nick is also a "great" communicator and is a pleasure to work with. Very fair in what he does. A good man. Amanda is the Secretary. A very able and assisting Secretary. Doesn't miss a beat. Very good at what she does. In closing if I owned 100 homes with wooden floors that needed to be refinished Griffith and Sons would do everyone of them. They are that good!

Terrible. They had to return 3 times to redo the work and it was still not done correctly. The inconvenience was severe with the need to have furniture moved out and then back later, overnight stays in hotel, many weeks each time unable to put carpeting back and curtains needing to be taken down and stored.

They were horrible.  First off, I would make appointments and they wouldn't show up.  I would make more appointments and they wouldn't show up.  The flooring wasn't level.  The chair kept getting caught on it.  It was a nightmare.  It was emotionally draining.

Griffith was used for flooring repairs so we took their word and used Griffith. It has been an on-going nightmare for well over a year now. Denny and Nick are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, but the workmanship the company delivers is extremely poor. Their employees take no care or pride in the work they do. We were told Griffith would tarp off all of the areas that they were not working on so we would not have to worry about dust in other areas of the house. They did not do that, and there was literally sawdust EVERYWHERE (see pictures). The stairways to the basement and upstairs were not tarped off, as promised, and sawdust coated everything upstairs, downstairs and on the entire main floor! The food I had removed from my pantry was stored in an area away from the work, but since they did not tarp off as they were supposed to do, I had to throw all of that away. The register vents were supposed to be blocked off, and weren't, so all of the air ducts were filled with dust as well as my brand new a/c filters. (Nick said he would pay to replace the filters. I gave one of the workers a receipt for the new ones I bought, but never received reimbursement.) That was only the start of the many problems we began discovering. When they sanded the floor, they got too close to the baseboards and the sander cut into them causing us to have many additional repairs. They dropped the sanding drum on the floor and left a major dip in the floor. It is very noticeable since it is in the main hallway of the house. (Nick said the repair for this would look worse than the dent.) The Griffith employees had tracked dirt and grass into the house while they were sanding and didn't bother cleaning their shoes or the wood before they applied the finish, so that debris was stuck in the finish. They installed new quarter round where none had been before in the kitchen and dining room. When they pulled that off, they damaged the baseboards, plus left unsightly, uneven bumps and ridges in the polyurethane all along the cabinetry. Stain was on shelving and white wood trim that would have been easy to prevent by taping off or more careful brush strokes. Several of the trim pieces were going to be re-used due to the special faux finish on them. But they broke most of them and tried to tack them back on in a sloppy way, hoping, I guess, that no one would notice. They broke the curved wood trim pieces on my stairway (see picture) and then when I said something, they told me they had a rubber trim that would stain and look like the wood. It does not - It scuffs easily and looks terrible now. It was an easy, cheap solution for Griffith. I wish I would have insisted on the exact wood replacement. They also put a very shiny glossy finish on the floor. This was not what was on our floors before-we had more of a semi-gloss finish. Our instructions were to repair the floor to exactly the way it was before - nothing extra or different. Griffith started working to try to repair the issues and we had many different employees to our house. Each time they sent different ones who had no clue what they were supposed to do when they arrived. One day when 2 young men showed up to work on one of the repairs, I asked them, if it wouldn't be a better plan to just re-do the entire floor which would fix the issues they came for, as well as get out all of the debris plus fix the bumps and ridges along all the cabinetry and apply the correct finish instead of fixing one issue at a time and especially since the finish on the entire floor was wrong. They agreed that would take care of those problems, but of course, as the way things had been going over the course of months now, they did not have the proper equipment or products with them so could not do the work. And we had to remove all the furniture and move out of the house again. They did manage to get the correct sheen on the floor on the 4th coat, but they did not sand off the grass, dirt or uneven areas of polyurethane. They did manage to leave about a dozen foot prints in the new finish though. Poor Mark (who seems to get stuck fixing all of the careless mistakes from the other Griffith employees) came and hand sanded and re-finished a few of the areas with debris and footprints. These areas look okay, not great, because they have been repaired so many times and have 5 plus coats of finish on them. To this day though, Griffith has never fixed the polyurethane ridges along all the cabinetry and there are still pieces of lint and debris in areas of the floor if you look closely or when cleaning. The wood on the bedroom floor that was replaced is now starting to buckle. It was installed June 2015 and it is now September 2016. Griffith told us that the wood would do this the first year, but since it has been over a year now, I don't know if this is normal or if it will become more of a concern due to poor installation work. We also still have an area in our hallway where a couple of boards have come loose. An employee came out a few months ago and nailed one down, then another one next to it came loose. Another employee came and nailed the second one down but not only are the nail holes extremely visible, but he cracked the board down the middle and it is sunk lower than the rest of the floor. (see picture) Nick came out to look at it, apologized and said Griffith would replace the board. He said they had the boards they needed to fix the issue. It has been about 3 months now and I have not heard from him. I have left 4 messages, one on his voice mail, one with Denny, and two with the receptionist. Still no word from anyone from the company. Overall, I am so unhappy with the way the floor turned out, but it looks like I will have to live with most of the problems. However, I do want this cracked board replaced correctly as Nick said they would do, or a refund so I can go to a new company who takes pride in their workmanship and can do the work properly.

They came out four or five different days, each time it was different men.  They never knew what the next step was so they asked me what they were supposed to do. When they took up the quarter round on the woodwork they damaged it and also the woodwork.  Even though they sanded it, the floor still had scratches and spots when it was done.  They spilled the polyurethane on the woodwork, on the kitchen floor vinyl, on the garage floor and threw the rest in the front yard which killed my grass. At this point, the woodwork and the floor looks worse than it did before.

I am writing this review for one reason and one reason, only.  So that I may save some poor customer from the poor workmanship that I experienced from Albert Griffith and Sons.   I so wish I would have never hired them.  But they did the work upstairs with the previous owner on the home that I recently purchased and they did a great job up there a few years ago. But they certainly did not do a good job for me at all on the downstairs.

They came out to refinish my floors and also to replace the boards in the hallway on the main floor in my 1929 English Tutor home.  They claimed that they sent one of their best installers out.  The installer did not install the boards straight so instead of relaying the floor before he nailed it down, he cut a wedged shaped board to try to make up for his error that went from 1/8" on one end and tapered up to 1.25" on the other end and this took place over a 6' length of board.  It was right in the middle of the floor and looked terrible. This is not the proper way to install wood flooring.  Denny the owner came out (very nice and professional) and agreed to reinstall the floor in the hallway.  They came out a second time and installed the boards correctly this time until it came time to nail the boards down.  The proper way to nail down strip flooring is to nail (in a straight line) a continuous row of nails every 8" across the boards.  Whoever nailed this did it like they were drunk.  They weren't, but it sure was anything but straight.  Instead of nice neat rows of nails every 8", they made no attempt at all to go in a straight row.  The rows of nails would randomly weave in 5" to the left and 3 - 5" to the right. The nail rows are all curved and look just terrible.  There is no repair for this except to tear it out and redo it.  Which is not an option at this point.

They also attempted to remove the squeaks in the floor by nailing the boards down. (which they did do).  The problem came when the nail gun they used did not have the proper nail guard on the end;  so instead of putting one on it, they used it without the nail guard, which instead of leaving nice individual nail marks, their nail gun put huge indentations in the floor that were between 1/8" and 1/4" in length.  Huge deep gouges in the floor. Each and every nail was like this where they tried to get rid of the squeaks.  There must have been well over 150 of these gouges in the floor.  50 or so in one 18" circle.  Then to make matters worse, they forgot to fill the majority of these gouges with wood filler before they refinished the floors.  So now the floor is full of the large gouges/holes that really distract from the floor.

They claim to use a 99% dustless system, but they certainly did not use this system in my home.  There was sawdust all over the place.  I asked them to hang plastic around the staircase so they would not get any sawdust upstairs.  They told me that they would.  But when I came back, the plastic was hanging from the ceiling, but was 3 feet shy of touching the floor. Sawdust coated everything upstairs and it took me at least 5 hours of vacuuming and cleaning to get rid of it.

For some unknown reason, when they applied the stain in the hallway, they must have applied the stain twice in an area that is 3 feet wide x 6 feet long.  The stain in this area was much darker than the rest of the floor.  When I asked them about this, they never gave me an answer as to why it was that way or if they would do anything about it.  They just ignored me and acted like I never asked the question.

Every time I would bring up a concern about their work, they would give me some made up BS answer that was not true. Hoping that I was ignorant and didn't know any better.  Each and every one of their employees would do this. (Except the owner, Denny). They would just try to BS their way out of things if you questioned them about why they did something that did not look right.

The bottom line is this: Albert Griffith and Son's has been in business for over 30 years, but the work that they do is something that you would expect from a company that has never done this type of work, ever before.  From my experience, they don't know how to properly use a nail gun.  They don't know how to properly apply stain in an even fashion. They employ people who appear to have very little experience judging from the quality of work that they do. They take very little pride in their work.  And their vehicles are dirty, dented, rusty vans that pretty much reflect the quality of work that they do.

Now I will say this.  If you don't look at all of the details everywhere, the floors look beautiful.  They are smooth, the stain is beautiful and their are no nails sticking up.  But if you look a little closer, you will see all of the issues that plain should have never happened from any company, much less a company that has been doing this for a long time.  They are not good at what they do and for the high prices they charge, I just would have never expected them to do this type of poor workmanship. Denny did offer to discount my price from $6,000 down to $5,000 which was a nice gesture, but I would have much preferred to pay the full price and get the quality job that they were hired to do.
Response from Albert Griffith & Sons Inc
"Admittedly, we did have some problems on the job, added with the fact that the subfloor was not as in as good of shape as the estimator had anticipated. We are not perfect by any means and in construction there are always obstacles to overcome. We worked evenings and weekends to keep things on schedule so the customer could move in. We called the customer to check to see if everything was to his satisfaction, he said we missed a few nail holes that needed putty and we forgot to install shoemold, for which we deducted $700.00 from his bill. He seemed satisfied on the phone and we said if he has any issues to please call us and let us know. We have not heard from him other than this review."

Family member used then 15 yrs ago.  They are NOT the same.

First time we ended up with "fish eyes" and a foot print. Also stained stainless dishwasher door. They came back and screened and resealed.  Outcome was worse: fish eyes, pooling and waffling by fridge. More stain on quarter round and trim. No fix to dishwasher.  We called again. Very apologetic. Scott, Supervisor, promised us everything to be redone and taken care of 100%.  We rescheduled May 6th. When we confirmed they had forgot us. But Rick promised they'd be here and promised top notch performance.  Crew came on time (no supervisor with them as promised). Used sander so in addition to the mess we now have circular buff marks showing through the seal. Still have waffling more staining to our trim/woodwork and same dishwasher door. We called. We are angry. They offered to redo, send a painter in and take our dishwasher door out and have it fixed.  We no longer believe them or believe in them. They have never come through on their promises. What we want now is a refund so we can hire a company with an "A" rating and get a professional job.

What a series of disappointments, frustration, work and wasted time on our part.

Albert its time to close shop. You obviously have no interest or pride in your work.

They were in our home for (4) days the week of October 5th.  Installed hardwood in kitchen, stained hardwood, and put two coats of poly on top.  Then replaced several areas that were damaged in our dining room.  Also, they replaced trim that has not been installed since our cabinet install as well as install under-cabinet trim.  They had to come back another 1/2 to finish-up the dining room and install the threshold between kitchen and entry-way (This was our fault, because we needed to install the French doors from kitchen to entryway), before they could put in the threshold.  During all of the installation work there were probably 4 different crews of workers from Griffith and they were all very thorough, professional, courteous, , and neat and clear about their work.  I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone, especially since we had such a horrific experience with another flooring company.

The floors look beautiful. They were stained, and a water based polyurethane was applied in both rooms. The installers and finishers were professional and did a nice job. We ran into a small problem with the finish in the dining room, but they made sure it was corrected and that we were satisfied with the result. Everyone at Griffith was great to work with, and we will use them again in the future.

PROS: the floors look beautiful; workmen were very professional and took time to make sure the stain was exactly what I wanted before getting started; once the work was scheduled it proceeded on time
CONS: really hard to get a hold of, it sometimes took several phone calls to get a hold of anyone and a couple of my emails were never responded to at all; the downstairs and upstairs (including a staircase) were supposed to be completed in two separate waves to work around some other renovations we did in the house and for some reason that was never explained to me the workmen decided not to do the staircase at the same time as the upstairs and made no mention of coming back to finish the job. Thankfully I hadn't paid for the stairs yet and will had to schedule them to be done separately.
OVERALL: the floors look beautiful so while the CONS are really annoying I would likely use Albert Griffith and Sons again
