SPEED LUBE

I recommend avoiding not only this particular Speed Lube shop, but any shop under the Illinois-based Speed Lube corporation. This shop destroyed my 85-year-old father's engine by sending it out of the shop without oil in it. Broke down 7 blocks away, after so-called oil change. Didn't even replace oil cap. Corporate headquarters ignored our civil & courteous phone calls, message with receptionist. They never responded to BBB or Indiana Attorney General Consumer Protection offer to mediate. After six months, they requested a 5-week postponement of my dad's Small Claims hearing. Then they played hardball in court, backdated documents and deprived him of (my) assistance conducting his case although they had a lawyer conducting theirs, and conferred with their witness freely during the case. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. The lawyer cited case law that even if they destroyed my dad's engine, they didn't have to repair or replace it - all they had to do was pay him the Blue Book value on his Lincoln, which is in beautiful condition. The judge only gave him $800 for it, devastating. This is a highly unethical organization. Every mechanic is going to make mistakes occasionally. That's no disgrace. But the way this corporation treated an 85-year-old customer who entrusted his car to them is no fluke. You can expect them to treat you likewise if they ever screw up your vehicle.
