The last week before I returned home, I tried to call him a few times trying to get him to return to the job. When I returned back from disaster duty the last day of May 2007, I continued trying to contact him. Long story short, he never returned, stole the money that was over/above the roofing job and we tried to resolve through his church first, as we are Christians and he was supposed to be a Christian and was a member of Bible Center Cathedral in Evansville. We could not get any help there, so we ended up hiring an attorney for another $5K. We won our case in court, but he filed bankruptcy and we have not received a dime. He is a thief. He drives around in a fairly new truck with "Faith Family Remodelers" on the door panel. He has never attempted to make right his theft of the money and poor workmanship. We had to hire another contractor who did a fine job. If further verification is desired, I can be contacted. Also, the court action is on file at the Vanderburgh County Courthouse.
Description of Work: Brian K Hollander, aka Faith Family Remodelers contracted with us to enlarge a porch, which required extending roofing; also to build a composite deck off of our dining room. We didn't mind giving a $3500 materials deposit for the porch/roof because he was a small business, but while the wife was gone on deployment to disaster duty for the month of May, 2007, the husband was too trusting. When Mr. Hollander did do the roof for the porch, the concrete was not poured and it was being held up by 2x4s. He started on the deck and asked for the additional $3500 for more materials (which the husband gave him in another check), telling him the concrete would be poured the following day. Needless to say, the concrete did not show up and the base of the deck was less than desirable and the next contractor had to almost completely dismantle it. It was nailed, not screwed, just very poor workmanship. I had contacted references, and they all gave him great references. The $7K cash was what we are out - although the remodeling job was worth more than twice that done properly.
