Durham's Heating and cooling is the best AC service we have ever used. Honest, thoughtful professional who evaluates the situation and recommends what is best for the home-owner, not his bottom line. Quick service, professional work. You want the long version? read on. We bought our house 5 years ago. The Hvac unit is 13 years old. Two years ago we had to have it serviced (not cooling) by another company, they suggested we just replace the whole unit at a cost of several thousand dollars. We said lets wait. Last June we lost cooling again, we called Durhams on a recommendation and he was not able to find a specific leak (just like the other people the year before) but Durhams suggested that we wait and see. "If the leak is so small that it takes that long to loose coolant and everything else is in working order, let's live with it till next spring and see if it needs replaced". Fast forward till today, (13 months later) over the weekend the coolant got low enough to not cool any longer. Durhams comes out, checks for leaks, checks out system, refills refrigerant, and says that we should wait. Due to the age and design of the system, replacing just the coil will be difficult to find and everything else is in good order, so we should wait till next spring. What a great guy. He knows we are hard working (paycheck to paycheck) people who can't just splurge on a new hvac system without a real need. Will we need a new system someday, yes, Did we need it two years ago? NO. Do I need it today? NO. Great to see a professional who is people first. Two years of service calls and refrigerant cost still less costly than 1/10th of the cost of a new system. When the time requires the a new system, we will use Durhams.

2013 December. Our furnace stopped and we didn't know why. Mike came within an hour of our call. He spent a half hour finding the problem, checking first the minor problems, but finding that a motor had to be replaced. Ran around town to find a dealer who could get the motor to us fast, so we wouldn't freeze. Picked it and installed it promptly. The best person you could find in case of an emergency. Great skills, good judgment.
2011 October: Our furnace would not start, and we knew only that the problem wasn't the thermostat. Mike Durham came the next day (a Sunday !!!) at 8:15 am, just when he said he would come (he couldn't come the same day because he was hosting a picnic for other heating and cooling contractors). Mike saw at once what the problem was and fixed in minutes, checked to make sure nothing else was wrong, did some cleaning at our request, and installed a previously purchased setback thermostat. He also advised us what we could do about a problem with a gas fireplace system. Importantly, Mike didn't make a mess, didn't overcharge, and didn't try to set us for an expensive maintenance contract.

Went great. Simple repair instead of new air conditioner/heater which I thought would be needed.

Mr. Durham explained everything to me as he went, showed me how to hose out the unit to keep it running more effectively and answered all my questions. As I had just recently bought the house I asked him if I should have him back in the fall to service the furnace and he said if you just had it inspected before buying ( I did) then I shouldn't need him to come out until next year. I appreciated his honesty and not having to pay for something I don't need this year.
