1.0 star rating 10/23/2017 Fraud Company BEWARE FRAUD COMPANY-Regarding Church Heating /Plumbing:We had our Grinder stop working. Church Pluming came out said we needed a new Grinder-$4000.00! And it would be 5 days till they could do it..Also said may need all new piping....We called a second company and he fixed it in two minutes-a little part was stuck. Took 5 calls to Owner before I got a call back. Office manager YELLED at me and Owner totally Rude. This company is a Rip-Off.

"I feel that it is pertinent to respond to your review as it leaves out the details of your interaction with our company. Our technician found your grinder pump seized and not pumping sewage. After pulling the pump and inspecting for obstructions in the impeller, finding none, he recommended that the pump be replaced. Since we did not have ready access to an exact replacement, the discharge piping would need to be modified to accommodate the new Liberty pump. And because the pump was non-stock at all of our local distributors on the Friday afternoon when you called us, it was going to be a few days before we could get ahold of the pump. In the end, you were uncomfortable with our recommendation. You pursued a second opinion -- fully within your rights, and the reason we provide an up front quote before we commence any work. That second provider was able to get the pump to work by "tapping" on the pump casing. In my 21 years of experience, simply freeing up a seized motor is rarely a permanent fix. Both myself and my technician were uncomfortable with the idea of a fix that we could not stand behind. Ultimately, we only charged the $99 service fee that was quoted at the time you scheduled the appointment. I returned your husbands call within 1 hour of the time he originally called on 10/13, and called again yesterday while traveling to an industry conference. It is regrettable to me that you had less than a 5 star experience, but I firmly believe that my staff conducted themselves professionally. Sincerely, Michael J Church"

I hired Church heating to service our Goodman furnace, the ac worked fine but not heat when I tried it our for the first time. I was aware of their service charge. I had never used this company before so I had little info to go on. I guess it was my mistake to leave my wife at home. She is not technical and had no knowledge of the problem. The only call I received was to let me know it would be around $475.00 which I said go ahead. By the time they were done the bill was $1198.00 and we still had a non-working unit. I did have them give an est for a new unit and they would have applied the service cost toward the new unit, but I went with Goff heating, since my faith in Church was gone after the repair bill. It took a letter to the BBB to get half of my money back. Make sure your aware of all of the possible charges when you hire a contractor.

Came out to do maintenance on my furnace and was told I needed 2 different parts
The technician could not give me an estimate and said someone would get back to me
and no one ever did.
So I got a second opinion and was told the 2 parts he recommended was not even on my furnace
and that no one ever cleaned or looked in my furnace as he showed the accumulation of dust on
the inside. (cleaning was part of the maintenance contract)
Called Mike Church and did get a refund, but still feel scammed

The day started out awaking in the morning with the heat "out." I immediately texted my "previous" Heat/AC guy, a local one man contractor, who has done numerous AC runs to our home over the past several years, and who had sent a sub out when our furnace acted the same way about ten days earlier. Trouble was the guy shrugged his shoulders and said he couldn't tell what the problem was, but mysteriously it had begun to work again. Once again it failed about four days later, then again on the 18th. The text was never responded to, neither was a phone message left at noon. After another forty-five minutes I called Church. The woman who answered was extremely helpful, made a quick call, and had me scheduled for a few hours later and laid out the basic house call price, wow! A new customer says thanks! When the tech arrived he went right to work, giving me a time table of about how long a diagnosis would take, 20-25 minutes. Bingo, after about 20 minutes up from the basement he came. Told me what part was ailing and how much to replace it. Then, at 4:15 pm, he left Dunlap and went to the West side of South Bend to pick up the part, returning about an hour and 15 minutes later. He was very knowledgeable and polite. The work was completed within an hour of his return and has worked without a hitch since. If anything should go wrong I have a one year guarantee on parts and labor. I know who I'll be calling the next time I need Heating & AC work done. Thanks, a new customer and friend.

I think they are already on Angie's List, that's where I actually got them. They were very friendly and they talk to us. There were couple of different people I talked to but they were anxious to accommodate. I don't have anything to compare the price to.

Our garbage disposal stopped working. We called Church and they told us there would be a $95.00 charge just to come out. We agreed to have them come. They came promptly and said we needed a new disposal. We agreed and the work was completed well in about fifteen minutes. They put in a new garbage disposal and it works well. The price is the problem and we did know before he started the work what it would cost, but by then we already had $95.00 invested and did not want to back out. The on line price of the disposal is $100.00, plus the $95.00 to come out and we will be generous and add $100.00 labor for 15 minutes. That would bring our cost to $295.00. We were told if we purchased their maintenance program our bill would be about $293.00 plus of course the cost of the maintenance contract--not sure what that was but I think about $225.00. Anyway we did not wish to purchase the maintenance program so out bill was $415.00 which I think is quite high and feel one should not have to purchase a maintenance program if one does not want to just to get a reasonable bill. I was very disappointed with this pricing and will not call them again.

"Our pricing is based on a national database for average repair times for a qualified technician. In some situations our technicians are able to complete repairs much more quickly than others. When this occurs, the pricing can seem unfair. However, there are times when the opposite is true and it takes longer than we anticipated to complete a repair. When this happens, our "up front pricing" protects you from unexpected price increases. While certainly not perfect, we have found that this is the most fair way we can conduct business."

I spent almost $7000 for the last service. I have a yearly contract with them. So, they come out and service my air conditioner as well as my furnace once a year. If you have an emergency and need them to come out, then you don’t have to pay the service call if you have a contract with them. I have to pay for the parts and not for the call which is nice. I have had them for the last 3 years and I like them very much. They are very prompt and courteous. They do a good job.

So. The Zoning system was not working because one of the electric dampers had failed, and the old dial-type thermostats were not zonable, anyway. LOVE our control now!
Church defined a plumbing error in the original construction. The cold water was not softened: only the hot water was softened. No wonder our house fixtures and small water machines like my water pic were salting up and failing! They fixed that, and then tested the water softness at cold and hot faucets to check themselves.
Then the Solar panels: German and Spanish. NOT American. Dammusanyway! Where is our manufacturing base? Church created beautiful fit and finish, with care for integrity of the roof, They used pre-existent pathways from roof through the upper level to the lower level utility room. A high efficiency 128 gallon thermal storage water tank is part of the system, and the plumbing is exquisite... dare we say jewel-like in its finished state? And alll exposed pipes are insulated to prevent heat loss. So pretty.
So how does it work? In terms of instant hot water, every where in the house, softened, and effective... it's wonderful. Did it save us any BTUs, therms, or hydrocarbon fuel use yet? Too soon to tell. But it looks pretty, works well, and we now have such bragging rights!
