We purchased our Toro from Gruel Bros about 10-12 years ago. They have done all the servicing on it, as we live only 5 mins from them. Their charges are in line with other estimates we received. Their friendliness and convenient locality to us are worth the few dollars we might have saved at another shop. On this date, the pull cord on my Toro Recyler Mower broke off due to age and wear. I had been using it since the battery to the electric starter had also failed. I called Gruel Bro and inquired on the cost and availability of a new battery. The serviceman informed me that the batteries are close to obsolete and they didn't have any in stock. The cost was more than I had budgeted so he advised I just get the recoil rope replaced and reconditioned, as Toro's are supposed to operate on a one-pull guarantee. He told me they were very busy and it would be a week or two before he could get it done. I went to Home Depot and purchased the recoil rope for under $10. I had difficulty getting it installed so I called Gruel Bros for help. They were very friendly, as always, and tried to assist me, but I soon realized I didn't have the right tools. I had to take it to Gruel Bros after all, but I've not had any problem with it starting since then.
