We were extremely pleased with the kitchen project, not only because of the work they did (which was outstanding), but because they worked with me when I told them I wanted to purchase the materials for the bathroom remodel myself and then have them install the products. I always do a ton of research before purchasing anything and finding a builder that would allow me to buy the material myself get the exact product at the best prices I could find.
The workers cleaned up completely everyday before they went home and always kept us informed of the schedule. Overall, we have been extremely pleased with Paul and Kris's work and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to family and friends or hire them again for other projects. Thank you guys for the great work you've done for us!!
We've used Freeland's Remodeling a total of three times now. The first time was great, the second time was mediocre, and the third time was a disaster. The demolition of the existing kitchen, the drywall patching, and the painting turned out pretty good; at least they have a few good qualities. Unfortunately, they cannot be trusted with any work beyond that.
Two guys came out to install our new kitchen cabinets. They worked incredibly slow and had to call Paul (one of the owners) several times asking how to do this or that, all things that experienced cabinet installers could have handled on their own. When they finished I noticed the cabinet peninsula was not square with the cabinets along the wall. I immediately called Freeland's office, expecting them to be embarrassed by such an obvious mistake and return immediately, but they weren't able to send someone back out for a week, which meant we had to reschedule our appointment for countertop measurements.
The next week, they sent out an even more clueless guy than the first two. He brought no tools with him and was not told what kind of work he was going to be doing when he arrived. He had to go to Lowes to buy a nailgun, and then realized he didn't have an air compressor or the right size nails, so he sat in his truck while someone brought him the right gear. His method of squaring the cabinets up was to shove the peninsula across the floor, which opened up a giant gap between the cabinets and the wall, and cracked the wood on our brand new cabinets. He either didn't notice, or didn't care, because he left without addressing either.
A few days later I was cleaning my garage and realized my expensive jigsaw was no long on my workbench where I left it before the cabinet installation. I called Paul to ask if his guys borrowed it for my kitchen and accidentally took it with him. He "looked in the truck" and "asked the guys" but it was nowhere to be found. I have no proof that my Dewalt jigsaw is in one of his guys' houses, but it sure as heck isn't in mine anymore!
When I went to install my dishwasher a few days later I found the opening was too small! Freeland's drawings clearly showed a standard 24" dishwasher. How can professionals mess up something so simple? Fortunately, I was able to resolve this myself by removing one cabinet, ripping a half inch off of a spacer piece and resetting the cabinet.
Today I attempted to install my new pantry doors which Freeland framed in for me. Both door openings are too narrow and one is too short. Looks like I'll be running my new doors through the tablesaw tomorrow. Now we're waiting to see what else they've screwed up. My wife calls it "The Freeland Legacy" because we never know when we're going to find something they did wrong and spend a day fixing it.
Throughout all of this, they were routinely late and left early (their working hours where about 10am-3pm, with an hour lunch.) They didn't show up at all one of the days, and I had to call to find out where they were. They had another job to go to and forgot to call me. Several of the guys that came for drywall and painting did not speak English, making it impossible to ask questions or explain concerns.
We couldn't be happier that we chose Paul Freeland and his crew; they did more than we expected and we really can't say enough about them. If you are thinking of having an area of your house remodeled, I strongly recommend you contact Paul, you won't be disappointed.
