United Pipe He quoted the referring plumbing contractor $250-$300 to locate underground pipe and leak. He cane out,, located the leak and charged my wife $150 more than he had agreed to. Instead of locating the pipe, he drew a large circle on ground and told us it was in there, somewhere, without doing any search of the pipe. He hadn't even brought the right equipment to do so. The referring plumber said they needed a precise pipe location and that he had agreed to locate the pipe and the leak..
John, the owner of United Leak Detection refused to come back out without an additional charge of $125. He arrived with the wrong equipment again, and acted like he did not know how to locate the pipe. He said he would return the next day with the correct equipment. He never showed up, never called, and would not return calls. After weeks, I threatened to file suit on his voice mail. . He agreed to come back out with the correct equipment.. He never returned, and again never returned any phone calls. I again advised him I would sue if he did not come back out. John then called and said his equipment was broken.
He never returned calls until he was threatened with a lawsuit, he brought the wrong equipment when he did come out, he failed to call when he missed appointments and has acted in a rude, indifferent and unprofessional manner. I would NEVER use this company's services again.

I was a little concerned with the one bad review on Angie's list so when John arrived I mentioned my concern on his review on Angie's list and asked what his guarantee was. He said that he would put us within 1 ft of the leak and if something did not go right he would work with us to ensure we found it. Hence my concern as we would be busting into the floor and have to repair it when done so I didn't want to do this more than once. After about 40 minutes John had the leak pinpointed. Once he located the leak he showed what he was listening for to myself and my husband.
He was very professional and actually came out earlier than we were scheduled. Due to finding the leak on a Friday night we did not have much luck in anyone calling us back or willing to come out over the weekend. John had us scheduled for Monday at 1:00. He finished a job earlier than he expected on Saturday and called and offered to come on Saturday afternoon at 4:30. He showed up exactly at 4:30 and went to work.
On Sunday, my husband went to work on busting up the floor tile that John had marked. He was dead on. The pipes were directly below the tile he marked which made our lives so much easier. We only had to remove one tile to dig up the floor.
Amazing work.
I would recommend John and would use him in the future.
I will say the service is a bit pricey considering the time it took him to find the leak and I would have been more upset about the price had he not been spot on. Considering it was the weekend when he came to find the leak I guess it could have been worse.

Of note: This is my first negative review on Angie's List.
John Jensen (United Leak Detection) was recommended by my plumber as all potential leaks spots were ruled out at either their source, or in the crawlspace. Approximately 25% of my house in on a slab.
John arrives on time, got out sound equipment (headphones and such) and went around until he identified (what he thought was) the spot of the leak. I asked if he was sure, and he said he was. He asked for tape to mark the spot, and he put a “X” in front area of our back hallway. He said it was the cold water line feeding the water heater, which was located on the other side of the wall.
John recorded on the invoice that he arrived at 3:10pm and departed at 3:50pm.
For these 40 minutes his charge was $300.
Expensive, but he is a specialist. And better yet, the leak was found! I didn’t say anything about the amount, because I figure it was better than digging all over the place. So I just wrote a check and thanked him for his service.
The plumbers came out the next day and cut a double piece of our lament floor to access the space. They then jackhammered and dug the slab, and a short time later they came to the conclusion that the leak wasn’t there. So I have a big whole in our hallway and large mound of broken slab and flooring that needs to be replaced.
I called John Jensen, and he came out that night. Using different equipment, he found the leak. The leak was not in my home at all, but under the garage floor in a pipe that leads to an outside water faucet.
No apologies, and he left without much fanfare. The plumbers came out the next day and the leak was indeed where John said it was.
I really didn’t know what to make of it, so I decided to wait for the plumbers invoice that was delayed due to personal reasons on the plumbers end. The bill was vague, with no breakdown of the cost between the first days drilling, and the second days drilling. I asked for a breakdown so I could take appropriate action.
On 11-5-13 I called John Jensen and told him I would like my fee returned. It was his decision to take a shortcut, and to deem my problem fixed in 40 minutes. While I’m out the cost of a replacement floor and paying double for plumbers. Not to mention the mess and aggravation.
That was two days ago. When I called, he answered his phone and listened to my request and rationale. Then he mumbled something about having to talk to “the company” to see. Of course he is the company. Then he said he would call me in 2 hours. He didn’t, so I called him 5 hours later and asked him to call again. And no calls yesterday, and I called his again today (11-7-13) a few hours back, and still no return call.
Now a couple things are just wrong here.
One: John provides a unique and valuable service and charges as a professional. But if he were a doctor or lawyer, he would be facing a malpractice suit. And if you’re going to charge as a professional, there are certain responsibilities you need to own up to. Fact is, even if you don’t charge as a professional there are good business practices you need to follow.
Two: He won’t return calls. What kind of childish behavior is this?
I have since found that his grade from the BBB of Indianapolis (on a scale from A+ to F) is a F http://www.bbb.org/indianapolis/business-reviews/leak-detection/united-leak-detection-in-carmel-in-90003573
And I have also found that his behavior is not unique to me, and 2 of the 4 reviews in YP mirror mine. http://www.yellowpages.com/indianapolis-in/mip/united-leak-detection-inc-458937491
What you can learn from me: I am an avid Angie’s List – Social Media reviews user. Got caught off guard this time due to the emergency nature and the recommendation from my plumber. Looking at his invoice after he left I noticed there was no address or phone number on it. Should have tipped me off, and should have paid by credit card.

United Leak technology was able to locate the leak under our concrete slab and answer any questions we had about the process.

They arrived on time and began work immediately. It took less than 40 minutes for them to identify the leak and they also offered a temporary fix to the problem that bought us some time in getting a plumber scheduled. They went the extra mile and we couldn't have been more pleased. Paying $365 wasn't fun but in the end, they were exact and it was better than guessing where the leak was.

He was the 2nd leak company I called, I called American Leak detection and their rate was 365. United Leak was 300. A neighbor recommended UL to me as well, so I was pretty comfortable booking an appt to having him come out. He listened to what I was saying and was extremely professional. He was able to find the leak and fixed it.

Another company was not able to help us so we called United Leak Detection and this guy came out and is still trying to get things worked out for us. At least he knows who to call if he can't fix it. He thought he had everything taken care of but something was still wrong so he gave us the name and number of someone who can work on the electrical part of it. He called before he came and he was here on time. He cleaned up after himself and left everything looking nice.
