They came out and were able to locate the leak in a closet behind our bath tub, they marked the spot with an x. The plumbers came out and jack hammered on the x and it was right on top of the pipe leak !!

Well, minus the fact that I do indeed have a slab leak, the appointment went well. The technician was on time and very nice and polite. he found the leak pretty quickly, and answered all my questions. I have used this company in the past (another different slab leak), and would use again, but I hope I don not have too.

Our plumber recommended Thermo-Scan to us to help locate a slab leak. Thermo-Scan came out and they were able to pinpoint the leak rather quickly. They cut a small section out of the drywall to access the area and then opened the slab to the hot riser. Once this was done we were able to call the plumber to complete the repairs. Thermo-Scan saved us a lot of time with their high tech equipment!

I had a leak in the garage that was was coming into the kitchen, Thermo-Scan came out and found the leak promptly, so quickly that they did not charge me the full estimated cost. They also spoke to the plumber too. So far. it has been the least stressful matter i have had to deal with, and I hope I would not need their services again, but would if needed.

Referred by my plumber we hired them to come out and investigate where our slab leak was for repair. They were very responsive coming within hours of being called and found the leak immediately.

I contacted TSI to check for a leak in the slab of my house and was able to get an appointment fairly quickly. The technician, Doug, first checked all of the interior faucets and toilets, then checked the exterior faucets, which is where the problem was. He was very efficient and professional. I was greatly relieved that the problem was relatively minor and that I did not have to make costly repairs.

My husband met him, and said he was professional and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, he was not able to find the leak. We talked to our plumber and were told that Bill was going to charge us a lower fee than we had originally anticipated, even though he spent an hour or so at our house inspecting our pipes for leaks. By happenstance, we found the leak a couple of days later; it turned out it was from the furnace, which Bill had in theory inspected but perhaps only by sound-- when we pulled out the filter, it was drenched. Without our asking for anything, Bill waived his fee entirely. We expected to pay whether he found the leak or not, as he spent considerable time at our house. I think the oversight with the furnace was an honest mistake and we weren't upset, but were very pleasantly surprised to hear he had waived the fee, and it made us thinkeven more highly of their business practices.

My plumber advised I needed to have them come to identify where a pipe was leaking; they scheduled me for the very next day. The technician, Doug Dillow, called ahead and showed up during the time period scheduled, and spent 90 minutes using ultra sound and pressurization to identify the source of a leak behind a wall/in the slab of the house. He was very personable and professional, explained all that he was doing, and took his time to make sure where the leak was located. He marked the spot on both sides of the wall (in the house and in the garage) where it was leaking so that the plumber could find it when he came the next day. He even advised me I had really high water pressure and should consider a water pressure regulator. I was very impressed with the services he performed, as I had no idea this type of servuce existed! They do other services to aid in home energy audits, so I would not hesitate to use them for other work. He was one of the nicest service people I have ever used!

Bill was great! He showed up on time and was very courteous. I had many questions being a first time homeowner and he was more than happy to answer every single one of them for me. He was able to pinpoint the leak in 30 minutes and wrote a thorough and detailed report. I even had some follow-up questions later in the evening (around 10p) and Bill was kind enough to return my call the next morning - first thing! I would recommend Thermo Scan to anybody with this type of issue!

Thermo-Scan was called to help locate the exact place of the leak. I talked to the company several times prior to having them come out. We talked about the 'worst' case scenario which would be that the place marked was not the location of the leak. There are no guarantees made that they will even come close to where the leak is located. They will come out and re-scan for free but that's it. The technician marked an area in the laundry room which has a linoleum floor. The leak was actually in the master bathroom, on the other side of the wall. The leak could not be reached from the area where Thermo-Scan marked. The technician was called back out. His reasoning was that he came close. He did not want us to have to dig up the tile in the master bath area which was tile. Based on the mark by Thermo-Scan we ended up having to replace the linoleum where they marked, as well as, the tile. We, of course, incurred additional charges by the plumber becuase of the extra work. If Thermo-Scan would've just marked the exact area of the leak, we wouldn't have had to pay the extra labor for digging a hole in the linoleum and replacing the linoleum. I really think the technician just make up this answer 'on the fly'. Nothing was said during the scan to indicate that he really thought the leak was in the master bath. Didn't we pay Thermo-Scan to mark the leak and not worry about what may or may not have to be dug up for the repair? After all, Thermo-Scan was not hired to repair the leak. They were hired to find the leak. The plumber had actually come closer to the area of the leak without the use of a 'fancy scanning' device prior to us calling Thermo-Scan. We decided to have the scan as a backup to the plumbers educated opinion. In the future I will not waste my money on the scan. Not only were we out the $325 for the scan but Thermo-Scan actually caused us to incur more charges from the plumber.
Response from Thermo-Scan Inspections
"We use non-destructive testing to find leaks under slabs. This is not an exact science because we are not tearing things apart to confirm our findings. While we do find 99% of these leaks and we are usually right on the leak site, there are factors beyond our control (90 degree bends in pipes, pockets under the slab, etc.) that can mask the leak or give us evidence that the leak is somewhere where it is not. While this rarely happens, it has happened and it will happen on rare cases again in the future. We do our best and 99.9% of our customers are happy with our work."

They were on time; however, the spot they said the leak came from was incorrect. The actual leak was more than six feet from the place where the actual leak was. To their credit, they did come out quickly to try to find the leak again when the plumber called them and they found the correct leak. However, we had to have a large (9 square foot) hole dug in the middle of our great room to fix a leak that wasn't there and then a second hole for the real leak. It is going to cost a lot to replace tile and fix everything for a hole that did not need to be there. I would have appreciated an apology without me having to initiate it.

I was impressed at the work that was done. The technician was very considerate of me and my pets. I had issues with the HVAC system where one part of the house was about 4 degrees colder than the other. The HVAC company that installed the system came twice and said there was nothing wrong, just to play with the vents. After Thermo Scan was done, the whole house felt warmer and there was no difference in sir temp from one side of the house to the other! He said there were many leaks in the duct work which was causing all kinds of heat loss, especially to the one side of the house. He also found that my sunroom was not insulated in the corners. After the tech had done the testing and sealing, a few days later, the company sent me a full report of what they did and what they found, along with the thermal pictures to show me. They also sent suggestions on other things that would make the home more energy efficient along with website links and/or what to do to fix them. If you are building a home, CALL THEM to make your home more energy efficient from the get go. After the drywall and brick/siding is up, it can be painful and time consuming to do some things. They can do it before hand!

They did a really nice service for me. After he was done, they sent me a report on how to improve my insulation. He felt a lot of air leaks in my house. They did a blower door test to see how much air was leaking and there was a reduction on the amount of leaking after he was done. They were good and professional. He cleaned up after himself. I placed an order with them and the scheduler said she would call me and she never did. I had to wait a month.

The thermo-scan is about $500.00 but for the extra money they will fix some of the smaller problems to make your home more efficient. They were in my home for about 6 hours. They found one spot where our heating vent wasn't hooked up properly and was leaking air. I had them plug exterior wall sockets and install small amounts of additional insulation.

Service tech arrived at 8:30 a.m. and left at 4:00 p.m. They conducted a blower door test to measure the total air infiltration in the home. The total air leakage measured 8123 cfm50 before the air sealing and the air leakage measured 7338 cfm50 after the air sealing. Due to the size of our house (4900 sq ft first floor and another 3200 sq ft basement and inlaws quarters), they were only able to get the blower door to 30 pascals which can make it difficult to detect smaller air leaks. The service tech came and got me whenever he wanted to show me something that needed to be fixed right away. He took photos (color and infrared) of all problem areas. Within the week I had his report emailed to me along with the photographs. I was so taken back when I saw evidence of cold air going through and within the walls. I purchased the package that included the tech identifying and sealing the leakage areas: Plumbing Penetrations---Sealed with caulk and/or foam. Exhaust Fans---Sealed housing to drywall with caulk or foam. Rim Joists----Foamed air leaks in unfinished basement area. Electrical Outlets----Installed insulation gaskets and child safety plugs (exterior wall outlets). Attic access---Adjusted threshold. Returns---Sealed gaps in the framing then sealed framing to drywall with caulk and foam. Sealed wall cavity in master bathroom that was open to the attic. He identified 7 major areas that need to be addressed for an energy efficient home, and 4 minor areas. I now need to go back to Angie's List for a list of recommendations for a company to come out and fix our problems areas. I cannot tell you enough how glad I am to have this test done. Opened my eyes to see areas you'd never think of where cold/hot air escapes and gets into the house.

We were able to get these things fixed through our warranty company because we caught them in time, which is what he said on the card he sent us in the mail. The infrared light, in my opinion is the best thing to use because it shows everything and we even got to see it on the little screen.
