Salsbery Brothers Landscaping

Last year, our front yard died and we called Salsbery Bros. We were told we had a fungus in the front yard and they would need to reseed. We signed a contract for them to get rid of the fungus, reseed our yard, and provide ongoing maintenance. They were supposed to start early Spring (we were told we'd be one of the first jobs since we signed the contract last Autumn). The day they were supposed to start, someone called and said they wouldn't be out because rain was in the forecast (didn't rain a drop that day). Reseeding took place a few weeks later. We watered (as instructed) but called more than once to let them know the new grass was dying, not growing in some places, and the weed that overtook our yard last year was back. Early on, I sensed Salsbery was not providing adequate lawn care, and knew we would eventually be blamed. A customer shouldn't have to repeatedly call if the lawn is being properly monitored and maintained. Three weeks ago, a Salsbery rep looked at our yard and told me the company would make things right. He checked the ground and said it looked like it was adequately watered (at that time). He said the Spring was too hot and the seeds didn't have a chance to survive - never mentioned we were at fault. Yesterday, a Salsbery rep (we think the same one; since I wasn't home I can't be sure) told my husband we were at fault; we hadn't watered. We also now have a fungus in the back yard (which we didn't have last year). When my husband asked why we have a fungus (when they were supposedly maintaining the yard), he was told fungicide was extra and we would have to pay for it. That's fine; we understand we need to pay for something that isn't included in the original contract. The back yard has had dead grass spots for weeks; why didn't one of the men treating the yard mention this to us or to a Salsbery manager for follow up? If Salsbery provided adequate lawn care service, why is our yard overrun with weeds? Why is there a new fungus? The yard looks worse now than it did before they started. Couple suggestions for Salsbery: 1) Get your stories straight before talking to clients. What changed in 3 weeks? We were told your company would make things right and then (a few weeks later) blamed. 2) Make sure the people doing the lawn care don't comment about what's being done wrong. 3) Communicate with your customers and you won't be annoyed when they repeatedly call asking when someone will be out to check on the yard. 4) Make sure the client has specific instructions how to care for the yard between maintenance visits. Don't assume they know and don't blame them when the yard dies because you failed to tell them how to properly care for it between visits. 5) If you are using sub-contractors, hire better ones who care about your reputation 6) Don't put a flag advertising your service in a yard that is the disgrace of the neighborhood. And finally, have the integrity to do the work you are paid to do. We can't prove we watered, but it's hard to dispute our yard is full of weeds and areas that weren't dying before are now. If Salsbery honored the contract by providing ongoing maintenance - as they were paid to do - how are we to blame?

The quality of my back lawn is horrible and they haven't consistently treated the area behind the fence line although I have been paying for that service. I complained in July and they came out and looked at it. They said it has dollar spot and they treated it. The lawn is still in horrible condition with weeds, clover, crab grass, etc. My sprinkler system has been maintained and programmed by Salsbery since they installed the system. The lawn is watered 4 times per week plus additional times when I have turned it on manually. My water bills have been running $250 - $300 per month in the summer so its getting plenty of water. I complained again August 30th. They sent someone out to look at it and the response is that I should water it more. I don't know how that will control the weeds. They also included photos of what is supposed to be my lawn although two of them are of someone else's healthy looking lawn. The others are taken from the farthest part of the lawn away from the portion in the worst condition. I wonder if they even walked the lawn as no rational person would say it has been treated properly. I will no longer use their services which is unfortunate. I typically find a service provider I like and maintain a long term relationship. Tried including photos but they would not upload.

On the third fertilizer application in August, the Salsbery person fertilized the fenced in back yard with granules. We were both gone when this happened. We had just bought a new 8 week old cute puppy. She is eating everything on the ground. When I contacted the Salsbery manager, he said there was a management change and some how the statement on the bottom of the contract was not transferred to the work order. I said this was totally unacceptable and cancelled my contract with them.

They are very thorough and professional, and we have used them for a variety of landscape projects and currently have an annual contract for maintenance.  They have done really great window boxes, and they also maintain our irrigation system.  They are pricier than many, but we have felt that we got value for the cost.

We are very pleased with the result. A 100% improvement over our old landscaping. Craig, the designer, consulted with us at 
every stage. The foreman also was very helpful. The entire crew was very hardworking and pleasant to work with. This was the 
the second project that they have done for us.

They did a great job. No one else wanted to do this job. Salsbery Brothers was a lifesaver. They buried drainage pipe from two downspouts including putting one under a cement sidewalk. I have used them for 5 years and have been very happy with their work. People might think that they are expensive but all of their bids have been cheaper than anyone else. Another plus, all of their employees speak English. They use e verify so you know you are not hiring any illegal immigrants.

It was a great experience. The crew was hard-working and knowledgeable and professional. We appreciated their efforts!

Hired to provide a landscape plan, however there was confusion as to pricing due to their brochures (which were subsequently changed). After discussion and a phone call they honored the price listed and did great job. We have purchase many plants/shrubs from them and will likely go back. Good people, great plants!

Cory came out to the house and measured "the lay of the land", listened to our ideas and drew up a very detailed plan. We have not contracted Salsbery yet but will do so in the fall.

Went well, no surprises.
