Work was done one time and done well. Our realtor had recommended him. Mr. Gibbs is very knowledgeable about not only plumbing, but heating, cooling and electrical. He is very personable, easy to work with and honest. Cost is less than other companies.

I am a realtor and I use this company to do all HVAC, electrical and plumbing repairs. They are responsive, customer focused and always fairly priced. It is rate to find one company that can fix almost everything and do a great job at a great price.

The inspection report was incomplete. The same inspector then responded with a estimate for services to resolve suspicious issues ... this is inappropriate as it is not ethical for an inspector to also perform services. It created much difficulty in proceed with the closing of the transaction for sale.
Response from Coolway Engineering
"Mistaken Identify Coolway Engineering does not do home inspections. Coolway Engineering has never done business with this member."

Steve is knowledgeable in heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical. He can fix things or tell you when it really is time to get a new one. He is not a salesman; he is a professional HVAC, plumbing & electrical. He estimates, does the work, bills. He has other male members of his family also do the work but Steve knows codes and what he is doing. We use him for almost all of our work. He does not set appts for us, but he works us in and gets there.

As part of our closing, Coolway was supposed to clean both of our HVACs. Neither was completely cleaned and one started leaking right after because the pipe was not cleaned all of the way. It also took multple phone calls to get Steve to come out. While he was a super nice guy, I don't have time for rework or unreturned phone calls.

Steve has done electrical and plumbing work for us at 4019 central, 4022 and 4024 central as well as a myriad of customers...we call, he answers. he can let himself in, do a thorough examination and finish the job w/o ever seeing us. i can call, ask him to questions about an inspection report and he gives unbiased answer. he may not do the work (the other party elect to do the work) but he answers just the same.

Originally the heating and airconditioners were installed as planned; however, 1 year later I discovered cool air coming out of the house vent from my crawl space. I called and spoke to the owner who tried to tell me it was a cross draft but I disagreed as I've had lived in the house 17 years and had never experienced a cross draft. I went into the crawl space to investigate and discovered the duct work going from the furnace completly soaked with water and detached from the unit. I had therefore been heating and cooling my crawl space for a year. I called the owner back and he said he'd send someone over to look at it. I had to continue calling since he never showed up for 4 weeks. Finally on the 4th week I threatened to sue him if he didn't have someone at my house that day. When I came home he had his workers in my driveway completing the job. I asked what went wrong and they said the drain pipe was never installed correctly when the house was built and was draining in my crawl space. When they installed the new unit the drain pipe continued to drip on the duct work and finally pulled away from the unit. I suspect the old unit didn't drip as much because it wasn't as powerful but I don't know. In any case they didn't inspect the lines and such before finishing the job and the most frustrating part was the lack of response until I threatened to sue.
A year later I went into my attic to do some work when I discovered they 2 pipes were reversed where the heated air was going straight into my attic onto my beams and the cool air return was going outside through the roof. My beams were soaking wet and dripping. I immediately called them again. This time they were at my house the very next day. I asked what had happened and all the person could say was there was a miscommunication between the person who installed the lines through the attic to the person connecting them from the unit below the attic.
The workers were very nice and helpful both times to come and fix the errors. I think if they had done a full quality check before leaving the job site all of this could have been avoided.

Response from Coolway Engineering
"The fallen and flood damaged duct work in the customers crawl space was not found or part of the furnace and air conditioner replacement that was sold to to the customer. While Coolway Engineering's response time was bad the duct work was replaced at no cost to the owner."

After a rocky start with one of their workers who seemed to have some anger issues, I asked that this man not be sent back and they accomodated me. The workers spent a lot of time resolving our numerous heating and ductwork issues to our satisfaction and we are very grateful.

Over the past few years and the many projects they have done for me, I've come to find that they can do just about anything and they do a good job of it. Steve is extremely knowledgable, as is his crew, and does extensive research on what kind of equipment to install. He won't be installing anything cheap and unreliable as he knows that will eventually lead to more headaches and more costs down the road. They are fair with price and explain everything to you and will teach you how to do certain things on your own. I use them for anything around my home that I do not feel comfortable doing.

I am very happy with the work that was done. The guys arrived about an hour late, but I tend to run late myself, so no big deal. I did call to be sure I had the right day though, and was told they should have been there already. I was home for the afternoon, so it didn't really matter, as long as they showed up sometime. Two young men arrived in a truck that looked like it was well stocked with plumbing tools, equipment and supplies. They came to the door with a bucket of tools and were plesant enough but not overly professional in their greeting and demeanor. I wasn't particularly impressed. This all changed, however, once the work started and I chatted with the plumber (Travis) while his assistant retrieved tools from the truck. He was clearly experienced and knowledgable, as he pointed out parts that had been re-used when a new sink was installed c. 1960. He recognized the parts pre-dating the sink based on its appearance, design and manufacture details. My house is older, built in 1929, so quirks reveal themselves whenever work is done. In this case the hot water shut off under the sink was not functioning suficiently; they tried shutting the water off at the water heater; no luck there either; there was a discussion about turning the water off outside the house v. at the main valve in the basement; I commented that the water would drain from the system onto the floor if the basement valve was shut. (I tried it once and immediately opened it again when water started draining out.) Anyway, Travis knew all about this, and commented that these valves had often been replaced by now. He also knew that it was difficult to access the main shut off outside older homes in my area--the access hole is very small and deep, and one needs a very long key to do the job. Travis opted for the basement shut off and was able to manage the water that issued forth, no problem, with a bucket I had in teh basement. Travis was neat and careful in all of his work; he was aware of his hands when they were dirty and didn't even use any of the 'utility" towels I had put out; he tidied up conscientiously when the work was finihsed; I was impressed that all of the valves that had been closed in an attempt to shut off the hot water were opened again before teh guys left, and that Travis was very diligent and paitent in checking to be sure there were no leaks resulting from manipulating these old valves--compromised as they are, no doubt, by years of mineral deposit build up. I hung around and asked questions when there were lulls in the work, and learned many useful tidbits; I asked questions about water softeners, as I am relative new to Indianapolis and have NEVER experienced water as HARD as it is here; Travis recommended brands that performed well and brands perhaps best avoided based on his experience repairing those with problems v. those he knew of that have performed well over time; we talked about "on demand" water heaters and how they perform in a hard water environment. Upon request, Travis gave me an estimate of what it would cost to install a water softening system. He had no problem determining the best size for me; he identified a good spot for this equipment in the basement, and expleained they would need to add an electrical outlet and drain to accommodate the system; he pointed out existing plumbing that is generally by passed in home water softening systems--the outdoor spigots and the kitchen sink; he assessed my electrical system in, terms of useage in the basement, to determine if an additional circut should be added; (yes, I iron down there and have all sorts of stuff plugged in--ie: sump pump, etc.) he also pointed out a potential problem area around the drain in my soapstone laundry sink--where the washing machine water drains currently. I appreciate Travis' willingness to answer all of my questions and his spontaneous offerning up of additional details. I learned a lot my house from someone knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his work. I also appreciate that it was "a conversation between equals". (Now if I could just get the guys at the car repair place to do this!) I will definitely use Coolway again, for plumbing and HVAC work as well. They seem to be the real deal. Professionals that know their trade, rather than smooth talkers that aren't truly expert at what they are doing.

Steve came out to look at our old system. He then sent an estimate of work that would be done. Steve has lots of knowledge about these systems and had very good recommendations for the type of system to install. When the install crew came one member seemed a little upset on occasion. On the first day that the system had to switch from heat pump to gas furnace the unit did not work. This was a Sunday. Steve came out and fixed it that day. A wire had been connected to the wrong spot. Haven't had a problem since.

I got them as a personal reference from someone at work who mentioned that they did a good work and gave them a very good price. I checked Angieslist and they had good ratings, so I went with them. My experience with them went pretty well. It was a smaller company with just a few people. So there was some coordination and communication that I had to take. I had to take some more responsibility that I had to take than I might have to with a larger firm. It was worth that extra coordination and lot of money saved. I had to walk through the process to get the tax credit with them all by myself. They had very good knowledge and latest equipment, but they are just not good with the paper work. I would use them again in future.

Good repair - but it was the tale of the ever-increasing price. Steve Gibbs came and professionally looked at the situation. He took apart the furnace blower and opened the ductwork to see several holes, leaks, and misconnected lines. This situation was causing high energy bills and uneven heating in the home. He stated that there was an access issue and that it would cost $380.00 to repair due to the fact they would have to remove the plenum and to repair it. I agreed. On Thursday, his associates came to do the repair. After analysis, they determined that it would take all day and could not be done for $380.00. They gave me a choice - a duct tape job for the originally quoted price of $380.00 or a full repair for $800.00. I should have backed out at this point - but I didn't. They spent the day doing the job - with two guys, they probably had 10 man-hours into the job plus parts - so it was really an $800.00 job. I did ask if they could also tell me which ducts go to which registers, but they could not. Overall, the work quality was good - we now get strong airflow to all the registers in the house, and the ductwork only leaks minimally (I can feel small amounts of air from the plenum, but can't find the leaks). When they left, the final bill was $880.00, 10% more than the second estimate and 213% more than Steve's original estimate.

Steve is great. We called him in the morning, and he was at our house that afternoon. He worked until almost 7:00 PM to get our problem fixed. We asked lots of questions, and he was patient and helpful throughout the whole process.

Very satisfied with Steve's work. I have used him extensively in the past for both heating and a/c as well as electrical. I can trust him.
