Only explanation received was "they had to pay their guys".
I don't know about welding.... but the price seemed pretty steep. The service was sketchy, although they must be reputable.
"I have included a copy of the invoice. She claimed it was approx $450.00, wheras it was $245.75 incl. tax. This work was performed in March of 2013. She verbally agreed the snow blower performed well when she received it back. It sat unused for approx 9 months. She told me she couldn’t get it started now. I provided her several tips on how to get it started. She said she relayed these tips to her husband but they didn’t work. I asked her to have her husband call me but he never did. I offered to look it over at no charge, and let her know what we find. We did not charge her pickup & delivery the first time. I told her it was up to her to get it into us, or pay for that service. This is a small machine, approx 75 pounds"
I am very pleased with the work they done for me .
"Thank you, (member name removed). I apologize for the backlog, but I am happy to hear you were satisfied with the job. Bill"
I can't shovel like I used to due to knee problems, and we paid $75 to a company to come and clear our long driveway.
Bill Jr. (owner, Carmel Welding) was very nice on the phone, and completely professional. But there's no good way to feel about a brand new $600 snowblower that doesn't run, or about the $75 we spent to get the driveway shoveled. I asked Bill if there was any sort of consideration he was willing to give in terms of the pickup/delivery fee, and he asked how we got the unit home. I said that his company had delivered it, and took that to mean that we'd received free delivery. I asked if there was any consideration to the fee, and he said Cub Cadet would not cover it.
Carmel Welding sent a flatbed truck to come and pick up the snowblower, and then a couple of days later returned with it. In a plastic baggie on the snowblower was a black cap for the fuel tank. I asked the gentleman who returned the unit what the cap was for and he said it was the old part. It turns out there was something wrong with the cap (not the gas, and not our negligence for not running the gas out, or putting an additive into it as was originally suggested) that was keeping the unit from running.
It starts just fine now, and I'm glad to have it, but it cost me $72 to get a new cap (and another $75 to get the driveway cleared). Not a great experience, and I'm hopeful that I don't have to pour more money into it.
"Great to hear, (deleted member name). I do hope they last you a lifetime! Bill"
"Thank you, (Member name removed), for the positive response. I am happy to hear we performed the job to your satisfaction. Bill"
"We had three people working on this job, and all three of them confirmed she received the metal she paid for. (Member name removed) even confirmed before she left the shop. Yes, we moved out equipment so she could pull her car into the shop because there was a thunderstorm at the time. We would never attempt to provide a product or service without the full intention of providing 100% satisfaction. (Member name removed)received exactly what she ordered. It's too bad she is disappointed, but received exactly what she requested. Bill"
I called and explained my problem to someone named Kevin. He was very understanding and knowledgeable, explaining that he had dealt often with similar mailbox situations. Unfortunately, he could not come out to my house immediately because the truck with the mobile welding equipment was in the shop getting a new transmission. However, he called the next week when the truck was repaired, and he came out soon thereafter to fix the mailbox. I watched him do the work, and he was terrific. He not only welded the parts together, but he also ground away rust and debris from the post; and he cleaned up the work site completely. I was very satisfied with the experience and would use Carmel Welding again if the need arises.
"Thank you for your positive response and I am happy to hear you were pleased with Kevin's efforts. He is a very qualified welding technician and has been a long standing employee of Carmel Welding."
"Carmel Welding is committed to providing the highest quality service in our industry. In this case, the customer requested we diagnose the problem with his snowblower and call him with an estimate. We had a technician disassemble his equipment as needed in order to find out what the problem was and what it would take to repair it properly. The customer agreed to pay the minimum $30 bench fee to have this done. We determined the problem, and called the customer with an estimate of $170.00 to have his snow blower repaired properly. He was informed that the $30 bench fee would be absorbed by our company if he authorized the repair, and, his repair bill would be $170.00. He declined having the work done and did not want to spend any more money on the repair or reassembley of the equipment. He agreed to have the equipment diagnosed for a minimum fee, and, he also agreed to receiving the equipment back in a disassembled condition because he did not want to spend any more money on it. We would have gladly reassembled the unit in it's original, non-working condition, at the normal shop labor fee, had he asked us to. Considering he did not authorize us to spend any more time on it, he received it back in a semi-disassembled condition."

"Thank you for your nice response. We are glad to hear you were satisfied with your purchase and experience here. I agree we need a larger showroom and better displays, but, like you said, if you don't see it on the floor, we probably have it in our warehouse."
