Michelle was extremely helpful in helping us out. We were in a pinch after being abandoned by our contractor 3 weeks before we wanted to list our house to sell. She arranged measuring, ordering, and installation in record time and we beat our deadline. The Cambria counter looks fabulous!!
Austin was polite, courteous and experienced. I would highly recommend Tommy D's.
Several unexplained delays occurred, and we found it particularly troubling that no one from Tommy D's ever initiated any communication to alert of us delays or keep us apprised of the situation. We had to call them and essentially ask, "so WHEN are our windows going to be installed?" We received "oh, I'm really sorry about that, I was going to call you..." but it wasn't too sincere; every single time we had any communication with them, it was because WE initiated it.
The delay (that was never actually explained) happened more then once, and finally we were notified in January (3 mo later than originally planned) that they were ready to install the windows.
The actual installation went smoothly; this was completed when the weather was still very cold, but they did a great job of keeping plastic and weather protection over the holes, and the installation was completed in 2-3 days.
We were immediately invoiced for the balance owed on the job (we had paid $2k up front) and found it pretty ironic that we received a 'late payment notice' when we hadn't paid the balance within 7 days of receiving the invoice, after the job itself was delayed more than 3 months!
We are quite satisfied with the windows themselves and the rough installation, but the work done to complete the window trim is definitely disappointing. The work was sloppy, with some finish nails still protruding from the trim and others set flush with the surface (instead of being recessed as they should be). I found one piece of trim on the side of a window being held in place b y a single nail (six would have been needed), and I had to use caulking to close some very wide gaps between the trim and window casing.
The review is definitely mixed -- I think the windows themselves are very nice, and the window installation was well done. I would give that part an "A". But if I had to do this again, I would have them stop after the window installation, and bring in experienced finish carpenters to complete the trim, since Tommy D's personnel did a pretty poor job (they get a "D" for the trim work) of that. Add in the lack of communication and unexplained delays, and I can't say I would use them again, or recommend them to anyone else.
We talked to Caitlin, their kitchen designer. She came out to our house, took measurements, and talked with us about what we wanted. She mocked up a design using her cad software. We went back and forth tweaking the design until it was exactly as I wanted. She then priced it out and ordered the cabinets.
Weeks later, when they arrived, they delivered the cabinets to the house where our contractor installed them. We had an issue with one of the cabinets being unable to open fully with our new fridge installed. Tommy D's was great about rectifying the problem and our replacement cabinet will arrive next week.
Note: They don't make custom cabinets. They order the cabinets from Homecrest cabinetry. The cabinets are high quality using a combination of real plywood and particle board where it's necessary. This was much less expensive than actual custom cabinetry. The real value here is working with Caitlin to get everything together and ordering the cabinets. Even though the actual cabinets are not custom built, the end result is still a custom design suited to your specific needs.
The price is comparable to Lowes or Home Depot, but working with their designer makes everything a lot easier. You're dealing with actual people instead of a corporation.
They also do countertops, but we have not received the countertops yet, so I can't comment on that.
A sales rep then came by my house to take measurements and discuss my options and choices further. Tommy D's services are much in demand and they were not going to be able to schedule the install for several weeks, however, they called twice before the tentative installation date to tell me they had an opening and could do the job if I was available. I was not available for these dates, but their original projected date was accurate and they did not delay in getting to my install.
There was a bit of a surprise during the install in that the new door jamb was a bit taller than my previous door. This slowed down the crew by an hour or more, but they were able to take the necessary actions and get the door in nicely without any signs of the extra effort they went through.
All the people associated with this purchase and install were helpful, polite and always on time and the pricing for goods and services was less than I was expecting for this home upgrade.

"Thanks for the nice comments on Angie's list this kind of stuff really means a lot to us. Michael L. Corns VP/Owner"
1) The house with windows as originally designed by the architect was quite expensive. Mike made himself available and worked with me to get a set of windows for the house that worked with our budget
2) There are a couple of rooms in house that were designed with dramatic floor to ceiling windows. Mike explained some of the issues on why we could not take the windows all of the distance to the floor as they had been designed. We were looking at windows that would come to 18" above the floor to meet code requirements. I was frustrated because I felt the changes were compromising the beauty of the room. I was talking to Mike and asked for his advice based on what he knew about windows. Mike was wonderful coming up with a solution that would meet all of the code requirements and showcase the design of the space. I am very happy with the result. I have also dropped in a couple of times without an appointment. Each time, Mike has dropped what he was working on and patiently answered all of my questions. I cannot say enough about how happy I am to have worked with Mike on the doors and windows for my new house.

"These comments are in response to a report dated Aug. 5 2010 by the Member regarding the purchase of windows from Tommy D's. I met with the Member's general contractor and his wife at the job site to get an initial idea of the requirements and measurements in order to evaluate the possible manufacturer options. I did return several times to be sure I had accurate measurements to accommodate windows that had to comply with historic renovation specs. The Member was never present when meeting with the contractor. At no cost to the Member or the contractor I pulled a crew from another job and installed 6 windows on his concrete back porch as a courtesy to the contractor. We were not hired to do any work on this project. The Member did not purchase Andersen top of the line windows for this area. The contractor informed the homeowners that the windows WERE properly installed and they wouldn't find anyone to do a better job. In the process, there was no damage to the windows and they were not "hacked off" as the Member has implied. The windows were not the wrong size!!!! There were no excuses made. I was trying to explain how the job had to be done to comply with specifications and supplied the materials to complete the job correctly. It is unfortunate that the Member could not comprehend what had to be done to install his windows. He demanded a refund and was offered one and I would have picked up the windows that day!!! I did not cuss at him. On 8/6/10 I received an e-mail apology for his rudeness and "unwarranted anger." Tom Deckard President/Owner Tommy D's Windows, Doors, and More Inc."
"After posting this on Angies List the Member did come into our store. We spoke for a good while and I explained what happend. We did admit being slow in our response to her. The sales lead was misplaced and when we found it, we called her immediately. The Member and I had a good conversation about the Angies list post, and she was willing to retract what she posted. I know we are not perfect but we do try to please every customer. Michael L. Corns Vice President Sales Tommy D's Windows, Doors, and More Inc."
