We had bathroom shower leaking. It’s on concrete slab and we thought it’s drainage pipe busted. James and his colleague diagnosed its caulking and grout loose not drainage pipe issue. They saved us from a $8000 bathroom project by suggesting us Re-caulking and Re-grout loose tile. 😂 Good catch and very professional & honest team! 👍

Had a pretty good clog, after spending the whole weekend trying to fix it myself I finally admitted defeat and called root-rooter. And I’m glad I did. Jackson came out and in no time at all had us up and running again. I definitely will recommend these guys to anyone from here on out!

Attempted to cleaned out the line with a short snake, got very little out, claimed that the block could be in inside plumbing. Backed up again within one day, same guy returned with a longer snake and cleaned a lot of roots out. No problems since.

Excellent. Roto Rooter came out that day to review the job and give me an estimate and had me on their list for repair the next day. Everyone else I called was going to be 3 - 4 days before they could even get someone out to me to give me an idea of what I was dealing with. Scott went right to work and didn't waste any time getting us back up and running again. I would definitely recommend them to anyone I know who needs plumbing repair/service work done.

Prior to contacting their on-call staff, I attempted to fix the problem by inserting a drain snake into the floor drain of the basement. After meeting some resistance while inserting the snake into the drain, I realized that the sewage levels were not decreasing and it appeared that the snake had been ineffective. At that point, I decided to call for emergency repair. I contacted Roto-Rooter of Bloomington, IN. When the repairman, Devin, contacted me over an hour after my initial call (I was forced to call the Roto-Rooter telephone number twice before I was contacted by the on-call repairman). I inquired about the charges and I was quoted $245 for clearing the main sewage line, and that he operated at a rate of $30 per hour. 3 hours after my initial call, Devin arrived at my home. I told the Devin that I had sewage water covering my basement floor. He told me that he needed to see the basement so he could get a better idea of what was going on. I led Devin through my home and down the steps that lead to the basement. I showed Devin the situation and I showed him the snake that I had ran into the floor drain of the basement. He inquired if the snake had gotten stuck in the drain and I informed him that it had not and that I had left it in the drain because I was not sure how to proceed and wanted to hand off the situation to the expert (Devin). He then asked me to show him the bathroom. Leaving the snake, I led him to the bathroom where he eventually proceeded to remove the toilet, bring a large main line clearing machine to the bathroom, and began feeding his machine's clearing device down the main sewer line. After a few minutes of feeding the device into the main sewer line, he informed me that the device had become stuck and inoperable. Devin then grabbed the metal line on his device and began to use all his might to repeatedly pull up on the line, trying to free it. After many quick and forceful repetitions over the course of approximately 20 minutes, he realized that the device was stuck in the sewage line and decided that he needed to call a coworker, Chris, for help. Devin and I stepped outside on the front porch of my house while he made the call. During the call, Chris was asked if he could come and help Devin remove the machine from my main sewage pipe in my home. Chris, who received the call replied loudly: “You tell that motherf*cker that he can suck a d*ck” at a level I could hear from a few feet away. Soon thereafter, Devin finished up the call and informed me that his coworker was on his way. Devin then told me that would not arrive for some time and that he was going to go to Hardee’s to get some breakfast. Devin returned from breakfast and Chris arrived shortly after. Devin and Chris began to troubleshoot why the main line clearing machine cable was stuck. Both Roto-Rooter employees attempted to pull on the device’s line in an effort to remove it from my main sewage pipe, to no avail. They approached me with an update to the situation. Chris informed me that the device was absolutely stuck in the main sewage line and that they would need to cut open the main sewage line in the basement to extract their device. Chris informed me that to do this, the hourly rate was $95. I reluctantly allowed them to proceed with the extrication of their equipment from my main sewage line. While Devin and Chris were working, I needed to urgently use the bathroom. I decided that I would hurriedly walk to the CVS next to my house and use their bathroom. On the way back to my house, I walked through my backyard and I rounded the back corner of my house to witness Devin urinating on my driveway (Chris was nearby and knew what was happening) while attempting to cover himself with the open door of Chris’s company vehicle. Chris then attempted to talk his way out of what had just occurred by informing me that the price of this “repair” would not get any higher and that I would only have to pay the initial $245 and the hourly rate of $95 and whatever material costs that would arise from cutting open a 2 ft. section my main sewage line in the basement and consequently repairing it. The employees then returned inside and continued working. I then witnessed Devin come upstairs to the bathroom where the main sewage line clearing device was located and he proceeded to use bolt cutters to cut the stuck portion of the device off. Devin then returned to the basement and the employees removed the stuck device, it’s cable, and the remainder of my drain snake from the main sewage line. The employees repaired the main sewage line with PVC pipe and Chris began to clear the main sewage line with his main line clearing device by inserting his device into a cleanout located in the basement. Chris was successful in clearing the blockage in the main sewage line. To make sure that the toilet wasn’t still backing up into the basement, one of the employees flushed the toilet upstairs while one of them stayed in the basement. With doing that, they discovered that, when flushed, the toilet leaked about half of a liter of water/sewage into the basement. Chris showed me the leak and said that it “could’ve been us.” I have owned my home for a month and a half, I have an inspection report from three months ago and a witness, that knows that the toilet did not leak into the basement when I purchased and moved into the home. Chris wrote out the invoice and charged me $411.25 for the work that had been done. I reluctantly paid and the employees left. I returned inside my home and noticed that my bathroom walls and floor were covered with splatters of sewage from the main line clearing machine (Note: the 4 attached pictures). The employees also left a 2.5 ft. section of dirty and excess PVC pipe, a saw, and a damaged saw blade on the landing between my kitchen and the steps to the basement. This is completely unacceptable. The only toilet in my home is now unusable because if it is flushed, it will leak sewage into my interior walls. I contacted the corporate office and spoke with Rene and explained the situation. She told me that she'd contact the local office and have them call me back. I finally got in touch with John Farmer (the General Manager) of the local office who informed me that they would not take any action to right this wrong unless I was going to pay them for it. When I realized that the GM was putting for the least amount of effort to correct this, I asked for the owner's (Robert Christman) phone number. John refused to give me the phone number and said that this problem won't go any higher than him.
Response from Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drain Services
"Roto-Rooter has been providing emergency plumbing service for the Bloomington/Bedford area since 1972. We have always stressed customer service and professionalism with our technicians for every job and customer. Mr. [Member Name Removed] did contact our office after a service call and did express his disappointment with our service. We investigated his version of the events and found they did not match with either technician's version of the events of this call (they were questioned at the same time but separately and by different supervisors). Each call with Mr. [Member Name Removed] resulted in a different version of events and new information being relayed. Devon, responded on site within an hour of getting the page. Devon found 8" of sewage in the basement and was NEVER informed of any cable stuck in the drain line. If Mr. [Member Name Removed] had disclosed this information to Devon, he would have sent a retriever hook down the line to remove the stuck cable and this job would have gone much differently. Mr. [Member Name Removed] did not disclose this information until after his stuck cable was wrapped around our cable. Mr. [Member Name Removed]'s omission of vital information could have resulted in our technician getting severely injured by attempting to clear a perceived blockage that in reality was another cable. Thankfully that didn't happen. Neither technician cursed at any time during this service call. We did have to cut the stack in the basement to retrieve our cable and the cable that Mr. [Member Name Removed] left in the pipe. We repaired the stack and opened the drain line. We did test the line and it did leak at a cast iron joint slightly, we offered to remove that joint but Mr. [Member Name Removed] declined saying "he was going to have a new bathroom installed soon and that we will just fix it at that time." This information was noted on the invoice. We cleaned up our area downstairs and went upstairs to wipe the walls down as we do on all jobs. Mr. [Member Name Removed] declined saying that "he would get that, and not to worry about it." Mr. [Member Name Removed] then signed the invoice saying he was satisfied with our work and approved of all the charges. At no time did Mr. [Member Name Removed] indicate to anyone onsite that he was not happy. Mr. [Member Name Removed] did contact our office on Monday and voice his displeasure. Unfortunately we could not reach an agreement with Mr. [Member Name Removed] to his satisfaction. We regret that Mr. [Member Name Removed] is unhappy with our service, and we wish him success in his future endeavors."

After I realized there was an issue with multiple drains in my house I randomly contacted Roto Rooter.  They had a guy out to my house within hours.  They were extremely professional and took the time to listen to my perception of the issue.  After googling the problem I assumed I had it figured out ( I didn't ), but he patiently listened and after doing a brief assessment was able to diagnose the problem and explain my options.

What impressed me most was the level of knowledge and willingness to engage my opinion of what I wanted.  Being able to have some control over the process was nice.  I never felt as if they would identify the issue and were simply going to do what they felt was best.  I was involved in the planning process which did a lot to establish trust.

The work was completed much faster than I anticipated and didn't cost nearly as much as I expected.  When issues like this come up I am conditioned to expect the worst.  It seems like there is always another shoe to drop.  I waited, but it just didn't happen.  They actually showed up when they said, did what they promised, and cleaned up their workspace.  Out of all the service providers I have dealt with this was by far one of, if not the, best experience.  If I have an issue in the future I will not hesitate to contact them again.  It is rare that you can work with a team of people you can trust to do what they say, so if you are looking for a plumbing service provider you do not need to look any further.  Seriously.  Just use these guys.

"Dear Mr. [removed member name], I am so sorry for your poor experience with Roto-Rooter. I have personally looked into your review and I am unable to find a service ticket for you for that date or any date in 2015. I did find two service calls in 2014 for this address. If somehow the listed date is wrong or filed under a different name or a business name, please let me know. I take customer service very seriously and definitely will use this experience for more training with my crew. Thank you again and I hope you will call us in the future."

This is for a rental property that I own. When a renter calls me with a problem, I want to get it resolved as quickly as possible so that I don't receive numerous calls regarding the same problem, and I want to keep my renters happy.

I find that I can not always get someone to show up when they say they will, or within the timeframe that I would l like.

I called Roto-Rooter one day and they had someone on the site promptly, got it fixed the first time, and it did not cost me an arm and a leg. Quick, efficient and professional service!! I didn't have to make a bunch of phone calls to find somebody to fit it into their schedule. One phone call and DONE!!

Highly recommended.
