What most impressed us with both Karol and James was their willingess to consult with us for extended periods of time about our framing options, without any guarantee that we would buy anything. Additionally, they seemed genuinely interested in the impact that we wanted the artwork to make. Example: The first poster we brought in was a picture of Mozart as a child. Karol's first question was not what color are the walls, where are you going to hang it, etc., but "how much of an influence has Mozart been on you?" She proceeded to spend well over an hour talking to us about various options, gave us a quote, and sent us on our way with no pressure to buy (which we eventually did).
We had a similar experience with a print that we brought in last February. We really had no idea what type of frame we wanted, so Karol and James showed us a whole bunch of options, gave us their honest opinions, and gave us some breathing room to decide. After the framing was done, we weren't happy with the type of glass we had chosen--which they had predicted--and they gladly switched it out for zero cost.
ReFrame is committed to using only reclaimed wood, deadfall, and other green materials. That wasn't the most important thing to us--and they're happy to discuss more standard frames if you want--we just wanted a nice frame. And to be honest, you'll definitely spend more than you would by just going to Target and getting a frame, but their prices aren't out of line with any other custom framing place. But we now have two uniquely and beautifully framed pieces in our home, each with a distinctive look and story.
We have always found local businesses to be a bit of a crapshoot, but ReFrame represents pretty much everything we could want in a local business.
