Since the rubber on the bottom of the garage door is partially missing (something we'll eventually fix), Roberta set mouse traps on either side of the door inside the garage. The traps are not traditional traps. They don't break the mouse's back and hold it in the trap. (Blech.) These traps are black circular maze-like objects that are completely enclosed and contain poison deep inside. (Because they're enclosed, they're no danger to pets.) The mouse will enter the trap, eat the poison, and then leave the building. When the animal drinks, the water will activate the poison and the mouse will die somewhere outside the building. Needless to say, I was relieved to hear that I wouldn't encounter any mouse remains inside the house. I hate killing anything, but Roberta said there are thousands of mice per acre. We have 5. That gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Roberta treated the detached garage for termites. Not only did she treat it, she and her assistant scraped off all the old termite mud trails that had collected. She and her assistant also scraped off all the old mud trails the previous termite guy neglected to remove in both garages. It's imperative that a pest professional remove previous evidence of termites so the owners and/or other pest pros can detect new activity by the new evidence aka mud trails termites leave behind.
So Roberta and her assistant spent a lot of time and worked very hard to remove all the old termite mud from the house, attached garage, and detached garage. I was surprised at how clean the buildings looked after they'd finished. It was an enormous amount of dirty work, but they tackled it cheerfully and aggressively. Nothing new to them. Business as usual. Their attitudes were great!
Roberta is very personable. She even told us how we could get the previous pest guy to treat the place for free via an existing warranty. We weren't happy with the mess he'd left behind, so we decided we wanted her to do it. But it was very generous of her to let us know how we could make use of the previous pest person's warranty via a property transfer process. Something she didn't have to do and certainly wouldn't have benefited from.
We plan to hire her in October for Asian beetles (those orange ladybug-like things) and any other pest problems we encounter. Since she and her assistant treated our house, we've seen no signs of termites or mice. We're very happy to have found her. She has a permanent place in our Contacts list.
Thanks, Roberta!
"Thank you for the positive and generous review. I do hope you are settled into and enjoying your new home. See you in the spring when all the insects emerge from their winter hibernation. Unless you have a problem before. Thanks for using a local, female owned business!"
