DOGGIE STYLES

This was the second time Bethany English groomed our wire hair fox terrier, Jilly Bean. I used to groom my former dogs myself (very unprofessionally), but not this dog. Although Jilly is well behaved, playful, affectionate, and cuddly, she is also extremely nervous about life in general (car rides, thunder, rain on skylights, being touched unexpectedly, and being brushed) — and she nips when you least expect it.
Jilly nipped at Bethany the first time she was groomed, so before this second visit, I discussed the above with Bethany, and also that our dog likes other dogs, but is afraid of large or aggressive dogs. This info was important because dogs are allowed to play with each other at the salon when they are between grooming activities. Bethany loves dogs and wants them to have a lovely time at Doggie Styles, so she recommended that I bring Jilly in on a day when other dogs are not present. I also sedated Jilly Bean before taking her in. Afterwards Bethany laughingly told me about how things had gone, including a story of how Jilly kept grabbing up little doggie toys as they walked from one grooming area to the next, with one toy falling out of Jilly's mouth as she grabbed the next. (Yes, that's my dog!).
When I picked the dog up, Bethany spent 10 or 15 minutes chatting with me about Jilly's experience at the spa and her nervousness/nippiness, which Bethany attributes to a generalized fearfulness and not to pain at being touched or groomed. Bethany gave me some information to pass along to Jilly's vet for consideration, and she told me about a humane "basket muzzle," available at Petco, which would allow us to bathe and brush our dog safely. (Brushing is necessary, not just cosmetic.)

Bethany at Doggie Styles is very nice and sweet and overall does a very nice job, but she cut one of their ears wrong. It is no big deal because their hair grows. I have been looking for a new groomer, but I would go back to her because she is nice and kind to my pets which is more important to me than the haircut. She was very easy to make an appointment with, but I did think the price was a little high considering the look. I do think the price is comparable to other places. I think she doesn't have as much experience as some other groomers, but she does seem professional. I think her prices are a little steep.

It always goes well and I've never had any problems.
