Budget Truck Rental LLC

It should be noted first that the rates for Budget trucks will fluctuate - this is not stated on the website, insofar as I could find. Our price went up $200 from what we thought we were going to pay from researching companies to actually booking a week later. Initially, I was impressed by their service - I had rented a 16' truck, but it was upgraded to a 24' truck at the Bloomington, IN location for free due to the location being overstocked with that size. The gentleman at the Bloomington office was professional, helpful and courteous, and I have no complaints with the Bloomington office specifically. Story goes downhill from there! We left Indiana at about midnight. At 4:30 AM, the truck's transmission totally went out. I called Budget's 24-hour roadside assistance, and they were helpful (throught the 20 minute phone call, most of which I was on hold) in getting me a in contact with a towing company, albeit 60 minutes from when I called. By 6:00 AM, the tow company informed me that the vehicle was not operable, and Budget needed to officially make this call before they'd issue a replacement - their mechanics wouldn't come to work until 8:30 AM. At about 10:00 AM, they called and said the broken and new truck would be co-located (address was given - 30 minutes away, when a Budget location was only 5 minutes away) between 1:00 and 2:00 PM for purposes of transitioning the loads, for which they would provide manpower. At 1:00 PM, I called them reminding them they never called me back. I told them I was headed to the trucks' location, and would be there at 1:30 PM. Upon arriving, the location was a mechanic's business, and they had no knowledge of Budget's plan. The broken truck was present, but the new truck was not. I called Budget back at 1:40 PM only to find out that they forgot to say that it would be closer to 2:00 PM for the new truck's arrival - they also dispatched four workers at this time to assist in tranisitioning the load. At 2:10 PM, I called them saying the truck wasn't there yet - they informed me the truck would be there by 2:50 PM. Later, the quote became 3:00 PM... Regardless, the truck was delivered - late - from about 60 miles away when there was a Budget location no more than 5 miles away with a replacement truck available (I checked). The new truck had holes in the roof, which I had to fix with duct tape prior to leaving. The workers that had been dispatched at 1:40 PM didn't show up until about 4:30 PM, and smelled like alcohol! But they were able to move, literally, the last four-five objects for us before they left again.... The conclusions I can state are: (1) Budget did finally get us a truck that took us to our destination, albeit about 12 hours after our truck broke down; (2) no reimbursement (other than for the hotel) was offered; (3) Budget seemed VERY - stress VERY - disorganized whenever I called the 800-number, which made my stress all the greater. It was a VERY bad experience!
