 + 0 moreMy dad has recently died and Mike came to look at the estate to give us an idea regarding value of the items and costs for having an auction. We are talking about 66 years worth of items. Everything had been well taken care of . He did not bring any notebook or other items to write down any information. He simply browsed through the entire house, basement, garage, and shed. We felt like he basically blew us off and told us that we just needed to have a yard sale. We felt that he was not very professional and that unless an auction had a value of several thousand dollars he wasn't interested.
Description of Work: Mike looked over my dad's estate.

Description of Work: Mike Heimel visited our home on June 12 to determine how best to conduct an auction of the furniture and household items we are not planning to move to a new out-of-state home. We explained that we had a very short period of time to get the items sold as we had a firm commitment to the moving company on the date of the move. Mike toured our home and looked at all the items that we wanted to sell. He said that there was enough furniture and other items to make an auction worthwhile, and that it would be held at our home on a weekend in mid-July. He was cordial and seemed very professional as he explained how the auction would be conducted. Concluding his visit he said he would be in touch via email and would provide a contract and his commission rate. He did not get back in touch with us for 9 days and then he said that he had decided not to conduct the auction because we had light colored carpeting and he felt his liability was too great. None of these concerns were expressed when he visited our home. At the end of the telephone call he said he would be willing to haul the items to his auction warehouse for an auction, but his commission would be 45%. As a result of his delay in getting back to us, we lost 9 days during which we could have sought out another auctioneer. As a result of his lack of responsiveness we have little time left to pursue other alternatives before we have to move. We would have understood if he said right away he was not interested and moved on to another alternative. We felt that the way he handled our situation was very unprofessional and would not recommend him to our worst enemy.

 + -1 moreIt is a nice, small, family auction house. The only thing that I would suggest that they improved on would be to have somebody who can deliver. I don't have good health and I bought a china cabinet and I had to find somebody to haul it. They didn't have anybody who could give me names or numbers or anything. They are very friendly and informal. I think they need a little better arrangement. It is small. If there were ever a fire, then I think it could be dangerous. I have been there multiple times and bought a lot of things from them. I got a nice stereo there for $20. They have nice stuff.
Description of Work: I have been to auctions at Mike Heimel Auction Service Inc. I bought a beautiful china cabinet.

 + -1 moreWE WERE UNHAPPY THAT THEY TACKED ON A $50 PICK-UP FEE WHICH NO ONE HAD MENTIONED IN ADVANCE. THEY DID TAKE A LOT OF STUFF, SO WE WERE SAVED THE WORK OF SELLING OR OTHERWISE GETTING OUT OF THE HOUSE. THERE IS A LOT OF UNCERTAINTY IN AUCTIONS (WHICH WE KNEW) SO IT IS HARD TO GUESS WHAT PRICES YOU MIGHT GET; WE DID NOT GET AS MUCH AS WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT FOR A LOT OF THE THINGS AND THE 35% COMMISSION TOOK A FAIR AMOUNT OF THAT. ON THE OTHER HAND, IT IS A GOOD WAY TO EMPTY A LOT OF THINGS FROM A HOUSE. THEY DID LEAVE BEHIND THINGS THEY DIDN'T THINK THEY COULD SELL WHICH WE THEN GAVE AWAY OR THREW AWAY. IT TOOK A LONG TIME FROM AND REMINDER PHONE CALLS TO GET PAID AND THEY CHARGED US THE PICK-UP FEE TWICE BUT THEN REFUNDED IT.
Description of Work: FURNITURE AND MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS WERE PICKED UP FROM MY MOTHER-IN-LAW'S HOUSE IN COLUMBUS, INDIANA AND TAKEN FOR AUCTION. WE WERE THEN GIVEN THE PROCEEDS LESS 35% COMMISSION.
