Southern Construction & Roofing

The project started around the 1st of April 2013. He was hired to tear down a mobile home and redo the existing addition, 14' x 29', to the mobile home into a small cabin.The foundation and 3 walls were already there. He built a wall where the addition was attached to the mobile home and  put on a new roof and siding. He told me the project would be finished in a month or month and a half, it is still not finished. I fired him a month ago and he called and said he was going to finish it by the 4th of July. That date came and went and he strung me along for a month saying he was going to finish it the week of July 15th - 19th. They worked 3 days that week, took thur. off and showed up the 19th for about an hour. They left before noon and said they would be back that afternoon, they never returned or answered any of my phone calls. I waited mon. July 22nd, no calls, no workers. I called him tue. July 23rd. and gave him until noon to call me back. He never returned my phone call so I sent an email through Angies list that he was fired. So here I sit with an unfinished cabin, no running water, ( I had to hire an electrician myself so I would have lights ) and a big mess left behind to clean up. There are 3 large burn piles around the cabin that I am going to have to hire someone to clean up.He was suppose to put a sealer on the basement wall before the dirt and gravel was filled in, plus put Dry-lock on the inside basement walls. That was never done, so all the dirt and gravel is going to have to be dug out, the outside walls sealed, a drainage system put in and then filled back in. The stairway to the basement was never built, or the steps to get into the cabin. They left a partical board ramp which is the only way to get into the cabin, which been there for 3 months. All I ask of him was to finish the cabin so I could write him one last check when the job was done and I was happy with his work. I am not happy and now I am going to have to try and find someone to finish the cabin and haul off the mess he left behind. He was not good at returning my calls, I could ony get a response from him when I sent a message theough Angies List. A grade here is an earned thing and I told him that, I feel since he did not finish the job, left a big mess and kept me upset for months that he deserved an "F". I would not recommend him to anyone. I gave him numerous chances to finish the cabin and I finally got tired of the lies and lack of communication so I fired him. Thank goodness for Angies List so people like me can tell others about a bad experience and warn other people. There are alot of good contractors and then there are the bad ones. We have a right to tell the truth, and quit letting bad contractors take advantage of us. Thank you Angie !

This is a very brief summary of what I have been through in the last 4 months, feel free to contact me.

I had to hire a new contractor to finish the cabin and I am in the process of looking for someone to finish the outside, fill dirt and such which was suppose to be done by Southern construction & roofing.

We searched the internet, yellow pages, and neighbors for referrals for a roofer.  Southern Construction came up just a couple of times while others only once.  Bids were sought from three.  Josh with Southern Construction made the best impression and got the job.  I am most pleased to make glowing referrals to him and his employees!  I met several as the project progressed.  All were pleasant and accommodating to any request I might ask.
They tore off the roof deck, cleaned up the mess quite well, and put on a new metal roof.  Some rafters were rotted.  Without missing a beat they replaced the bad rafters and did not jack the price when finished.  In fact, the project went longer than expected and the final price stayed as bid.  That is important to me.  I did not have to scramble to borrow extra money.
Josh came out on the weekend to powerwash the sides of the garage.  Now it looks new instead of decrepit!
Do not hesitate to call Southern Construction for a bid on your roof (he does siding too).
