STONE STUDIO COUNTER TOPS

Pete Wukusick and his wife Marlene run the business from their home near Batesville, Indiana.  They specialize in soapstone, keeping a good selection of stone slabs to choose from.  To make sure I understood the characteristics of the material age it ages, Marlene and Pete gave a tour of their home which has soapstone installed at different times, some decades old and others very newly installed.  The time spent at the studio was very informative and relaxed, with no pressure to make a decision. When it was time to measure the cabinets, Pete did the measurements himself and showed his gift for precision.  He also personally installed the countertops with the help of an assistant, and made sure the kitchen was meticulously cleaned of any dust before they left.  The soapstone countertops have been everything I'd heard and more--beautiful, durable, able to handle hot pans, and much easier to care for than granite. It was worth every penny, especially considering soapstone will look just as good after 100 years.
