UNIVERSAL MORTGAGE

These are the most unprofessional, disorganized mortgage brokers in the state. We used them because they were recommended to us by our realtor, and I wish we had never heard of them. We went through the entire application process and, with the loan secured, found our dream home. We assumed they were taking care of what they needed to do, but we had to call them repeatedly to get them to even respond. It would sometimes take days to get ahold of the rep, Erin, and we were trying to get the sale to go through quickly, so the lack of effort on her part was definitely not appreciated. They did order the appraisal and we submitted all the paperwork to them that they asked for. We gave notice at our rental, started packing, got insurance set up for the home, put in our requests for time off at work, and started recruiting friends to help move. However, THREE DAYS before we were expected to close, we were on our way out to drop off a signed form and found out from our realtor (not through the mortgage company) that they were pulling out. They 'discovered' that there were too many foreclosures in the area and decided to withdrawal their offer. They had plenty of time to do all the research on the home and the area, but I guess they had better things to do. We were left scrambling to cancel everything, and didn't know if another company would be able to give us a loan before we had to be out of our rental. Their lack of planning, lack of responsiveness, lack of professionalism, failure to communicate, and basic inability to do their jobs left everyone inconvenienced. I don't know if they are inexperienced or just not very smart or well-prepared, but I would warn anyone considering a home loan to steer clear of Universal Mortgage. You will regret ever getting tied up with this pitiful company, and all of your careful planning cannot make up for a terrible mortgage company.
