After utilizing Mike owner of Affordable Pools, Spa and Tanning Bed Services located at 6280 Red Alder Dr, Avon, IN 46123 for the last several years for my hot tub repairs I was recently shocked and see a change of business strategy. In years past it wasn't always about the job preached Mike it was about helping neighbors and still being able to operate. Recently I contacted him because a trouble code appeared and I told him the code over the phone. He was very responsive willing to promptly come over the next day and like always very professional. As I started talking to Mike he indicated there was a $45 trip charge and there is also a $65 diagnosis/evaluation fee. At that time I remained professional and told Mike after spending at least $400 each year with him I wasn't going to keep handing out money to "fix" my hot tub each year.
You would have thought since we both live close to each other in Avon along with the fact that I was a loyal customer, he would be willing to swing by and take a glance and give me an estimate free of charge - NOPE - I am very let down and hurt to see how money and greed has taken over his life. I called a plumber friend from Church about my situation and he was surprised by that response from Mike. He gave me a number to call and I had him at my home within the hour. He was able to simply hit the breaker and prime my pump and the trouble code vanished - it took about 5 mins. Best thing about this he said was the fact he made a new friend. In the future if my hot tub actually needed repairs I will definitely call him and he went on to say that he would charge me a reasonable fee and not gouge me with a trip fee and evaluation fees. I told him I would put him on Angies list and write up my positive experience to share his name with others. God has a way of sending angels when your in need!
"{Member's name} did contact us on Thursday the 24th regarding a service code he had on his spa. He specifically asked if there was anything he could do to resolve the code himself whereas he would not have to pay for service. I did advise of the 3 things which could attribute to this code, which he could resolve himself. ( To assure the filter is clean, that the pump was primed and that the shut off valves were fully in the open position.) In addition, I advised him how to to prime the pump and even how to open a defective valve. Later Thursday {Member's name} called back to say he was unable to resolve the issue and wanted me to come out when we were in the area. We made an appointment for the next day, Friday the 25th. On Friday I called Mark to advise of our eta. We advised that the trip fee would be waived, however the service fee of 65.00 would still apply. Further I stated that if the issue was minor the total bill would only be the 65.00 plus and required parts. {Member's name} made it clear that he did not have any desire to spend any additional moneys on his hot tub and requested that we cancel the service call. {Member's name} was very Professional at all times during our conversation. Maybe he misunderstood when I told him that we would waive the trip fee for his service. The service tech in the vehicle with me at that time also thought I was quite clear. Short of providing on-site services for free I am not quite sure what more we could have done to avoid this issue. The only service provided to this customer in the past two years was performed on 2/13/2014."
The cover repair went fine. The technician removed the light and fixed the repair. They then left it hanging for my husband to put back in place. It was quite difficult.
90 days later I noticed that the pool is still leaking. I requested that Mike, the owner, review their repair and possibly work on it. He told me over email that there is only a 30 day warranty and he doesn't stand by his work. What? He gave me a phone number for another company to do work on it. What?
I am very disappointed that for this kind of money he could not provide good customer service and stand by the work he provided. I do not recommend him or his company.
"Unfortunately there are several inaccuracy's in the customers statement. The work, repair and replacement of the Automatic cover. track guide, pool opening and light conduit seal was completed in May of this year not August. At this time the customer was satisfied with the work performed and paid the balance due in full. It is true that the light assemble was left uninstalled. It was discovered that the light nitch had corroded and required repair before the light could be installed. The customer elected to save money by performing the repair themselves. As a matter of fact Mr [Member name removed] seemed excited to be able to use his scuba gear in order to perform the repair. The customer did contact us in August regarding the pool leaking water. At that time we did advise that the Leak repair was substantially beyond the 30 day warranty period for this service. We strongly recommended that they do a full pool leak detection to assure that they did not run into the same issues they did the prior winter which resulted in the damage to the automatic cover system and liner. We did provide a contact number for a company which provides for a full pool leak detection. We still strongly recommend a full leak detection of the pool to avoid damage to the systems during the winter months especially since the customer decided against replacing the damaged pool liner. In addition to the services provided we spent substantial time talking with their insurance company in an effort to have at least a part of the repairs to be covered by insurance. We did this as a courtesy with no charges to the customer. It is sad the customer has chosen to provide for poor rating overall since the majority of the work performed was the repair of the automatic cover for which they were satisfied. In addition we were are always prompt, if not early, for every appointment and responded to every request including dealing with their insurance company. All said, it is obvious that the customer is disappointed with our 30 day warranty policy on the light conduit leak repair. Our charge to the customer for this service was $150.00. We would be happy to refund this amount to them for customer satisfaction. We look forward to hearing back on this issue."
Mike was very helpful and took time to explain some important issues with pool reference the water level, a possible leak and other related pool system hardware. Also gave additional information reference maintenance of hottub. I will be following up with him to address these current and future concerns.
Great. Was referred to us by our home warranty company. Was prompt and had the parts that were needed. Had me text him a picture before he arrived to ensure he had the correct parts when he arrived.
Since it was a home warranty issue, I only paid $100 out of pocket.
We have already decided to use this company next spring to replace our pool liner.
Mike is a great guy. Please call him and let him take care of all your pool problems.
A little note on professionalism: As with all providers, professionalism goes a long way, and is evident in the smallest of acts. I had left two gates open for him, because they can sometimes give people grief when entering my yard. Mike closed both gates when he left. Further, Mike left our invoice on the front door, with a quote for fall closing of our pool. While this certainly was a smart move to increase his business, Mike anticipated our future needs, and left a written quote. He did not leave a note asking me to call to get a quote. Previous experience with other shops was that gates were typically left open, with a note asking me to call for a drawn out sales pitch on things I "have" to spend money on. I felt as though there was no pressure from Mike. I will definitely be calling him again.
One last thing. I am a DIY'er when it comes to my pool. I manage the chemicals while avoiding pool shops, except for the specialty chemicals I cannot buy elsewhere. I was planning on closing my own pool, but with the prices Mike offers, I will likely contact him. He is at least $75 less than the cheapest pool shop near me.
