I have a very bad experience by hiring KJ’s Handyman Service did my home repair and maintenance from 6/18/2018 to 6/20/2018. The initial quoted price was $1740, when the work was started the first day on 6/18/2018, Steve (Ken’s daddy) with another person was working onsite. I found the woods on the crown was rotten. Replacing only one piece of wood, caulking and painting the crown on the initially quoted would not help. After I discussed with Steve, he asked and I agreed to pay additional $250 to replace the crown. The total should be $1740 + $250 = $1990. Minus the initial $870 deposit, I only owe them $1120. But after they finished the work on 6/20/2018, the final invoice they billed me $1630 = $2500 - $870. During they were working on the crown installation, they broke my screen window under the crown. When I called Ken, the owner and told him my screen window was broken when they were doing the crown installation, and asked him why he overcharged me $510. Ken denied their responsibility rudely and dishonestly for broke my screen window, and threatened me to put a lien on my house if I would not pay the full amount $1630. After I got threatened, I checked BBB KJ’s Handyman Service complaints and realized that I just one of his victims got threatened, intimidated and blackmailed by Ken because less than 1% of people posted their complaints on BBB. I sent an email and told them again I only owe them $1120 and asked them to replace my screen window but they sent me an email to inform me that KJ’s Handyman Service, LLC would file a Construction Lien against my house. Based on my experience with KJ’s Handyman Service: If you do not want your things get damaged when they were working on your home, you should avoid use KJ’s Handyman Service. If you do not want to be overcharged, you should avoid use KJ’s Handyman Service. If you do not want a lien on your house, you should avoid use KJ’s Handyman Service.

There was a delay of one day in the job installation. KJ's let us know only 2 days prior but we were able to accommodate the change in scheduling. The job was completed in about 2 days as they said. On arrival day 1, the 2 workers put a tarp down on our newly refinished hardwood floor, but we noticed before they left that they weren't using the tarp for their tool box and power tools. They were setting all their equipment, power tools and tool box on our floor; and after they left we noticed significant damage to our hardwood floor around the island they were installing. We called KJs and left a message because it was after hours, and we talked to Josh (1 of the workers) about it when he arrived back on Monday. He took some pictures and said he would give them to Ken Young. We called KJs several times, and we were told Josh hadn't yet sent the pictures to Ken Young. Then we were told Ken Young hadn't looked at them yet. After about a 3-4 weeks, KJs said we could call Griffith Flooring to get an estimate on repairs. On Nov 18, Nick Griffith came out, did an estimate for the areas that were damaged and said he would provide the estimate to Ken Young to repair the area KJs damaged. Nick said he could do the work around the 19th of December. This is also the time we were to have our cabinets repainted so based on what Nick Griffith said about when he could do the work, I canceled the painter (which I had to wait 3 - 4 months for). Then on the 23rd of November, we received an email from Kathy Young. She said Griffith would not do the work for us because of past experience working with us ( We had to have Griffith come out to the house 6 or 7 times when they were refinishing our kitchen floor at which time they reimbursed part of our payment because they told us they would not come out anymore.) Kathy Young went on to say Griffith is the only company they use "and will not use anyone else." So even though they accepted responsibility for damaging our floors by sending Griffith flooring out, they are not taking responsibility to fix it because Griffith flooring doesn't want to do the work. We need help from Angies List to get our floor repaired for damages caused by KJs. We have pictures of the damaged floor that we can provide in an email.

Less than one year after the roof was replaced, it is leaking again.  I contacted Ken immediately to inquire if the roof was under warranty.  He replied there would be a warranty if it was the roof and he would send someone out that week to evaluate.  I contacted him again two weeks later since I had not seen anyone come to look at the roof nor had I heard back from him.  He again replied someone would come look at it and he would contact me.  I waited 4 more weeks and sent another follow up to inquire if someone was going to look at the roof or if they had already.  I never received a response to my most recent inquiry.

This contractor is a very small contractor. He wanted my job which was out of his scope of business and experience. I believe he made promises he was unable to keep. I terminated him in the middle of the first of two contracts as it was evident he and his very small crew could not handle the job. Many mistakes and poor quality. Over two months to lay tile in my lower level with one worker who was pulled from time to time to work on other jobs.

excellent.  we were looking for someone with alot of very diverse experience to do some work on our home.  We asked Ken to do this job first, as it was not a huge job, but still substantial.  I was looking for a fair price....I've learned my lesson from hiring the cheapest contractors...you get cheap results, and a lack of professionalism.  Not with Ken.  His price was fair but not the cheapest out there.  I was pleased with every phase of the project.  we asked him to visit our home a couple times while we were still deciding exactly how we wanted this job done.  each time, he was able to come out within a couple days, and was EARLY for every appointment.  FINALLY someone who does great work at a good price...and has some business sense.  As for the job itself, we are super happy with it.  There was a minor concern of some bent flashing that they put above the exterior window, but Ken replaced it with the right stuff, no questions asked.  this window really makes the whole room, and the siding was very much needed.

Because we had some different options, Ken provided us with multiple quotes to illustrate the different costs associated with each option. This was very helpful in the decision making process. Once we decided to proceed, our work was scheduled within 10 days. The job was completed in one day, and the second day was used to review the work (with Ken) and walk through the project. Minor touch ups required and completed that day. The walls look great!

I felt like they did a really great job. If we did have any slight problems they were very good at correcting it to make sure it was right.

Ken's quote was very timely and work began promptly (although, Ken missed the rescreening portion in the initial quote).  There were several delays (do to predicted bad weather that never occured) and ultimatley it took about three months from quote to completion.  I realize that contractors schedule several jobs at a time and weather delays can force them to move scheduling around, but given the amount of work to be compelted and the fact that on each occation of predicted poor weather did not materialize, the work should have been completed sooner.

After the initial rescreening of the porch, the new trim boards were not level (very evident to the eye), I had to call Ken to get this corrected.  Also, the screen door was installed improperly, using only about 25% of the screws necessary to secure it to the door frame.  This caused the screws that were used to pull free after about a week of use.  It took two calls (the second call a little more forceful)  to K&J to get them out to complete the job properly.

Finally, since we have not had any rain (of a measurable amount) since the roof leaks were repaird, I can not comment on the quality of that work.  Time will tell.

In summary, I don't believe I would use K&J for work at my home in the future as their attention to detail leaves something to be desired.
Response from KJ's Handyman Service LLC
"I am sorry that home owner was not happy, but I keeped him informed with every delay because of the weather. Home owner added the rescreened of porch which also added to the job, which I was trying to squeeze in while keeping my other clients happy. I corrected the items that he claims were do to bad install but the door was ripped off by wind and slamming and I repaired for free."
