Exterior Painting
$300
When Edward came out to stain my deck, I was under the impression that he knew what he was doing. I don't think he has EVER stained a deck in his life. I had to go to Menards several times because he used 4 cans of stain!! $40 a can, which is insane. He sprayed my deck with a wand that you would use in a self-serve car wash. There were major drips on the railing, all over the rails, and on the steps. He sprayed my car and it covered the whole car. I took my car to Ziebart to have them remove all the stain on my car, and it had already started to eat the paint, and it cost me $1,044.99, I have the receipt. He sprayed my young Chinese Maglonia tree that I just planted and hope it will survive. The initial pay was going to be $1000, but after I saw what he did, he left with $300, and I think that was generous. He was upset about that and acted like it was my fault or just didn't care the job he did. It is going to take me hundreds of dollars to repair what he did.
Response from Normile Protective Coatings
"To begin, we initially agreed to allow me to apply 2 coats of stain to the deck. Yes the original price was $1000. The customer demanded to use materials from Menards that she herself wanted to supply. I tried to use Sherwin Williams stain, but she insisted so we agreed. I tried to tell the customer that it would take at least 4 gallons to do the job the right way, she seemed to think it would take 1-2 gallons. I took my time on this. Washed one day, applied all the trim by hand the next, then sprayed the stain using my airless the third. Not a car wash wand. I wasn’t even done with the first coat and ran out of stain. The customer was then upset that she had to buy a fourth can at $40. (Keep in mind the material I wanted to use is $70 a gallon.) so she left in a huff, came back nearly an hour later and then told me she didn’t want me there anymore, and only was willing to pay $750, I said make it $700 to be fair. The deck wasn’t even done. Needed a second coat. She wouldn’t have it. Two days later, she said some got on the car. So I made my apologies and agreed to meet her and clean it off by hand. I’ve cleaned my own truck off countless times. When I arrived, she then told me she canceled my check of $700 because she “forgot her rent was due”. I asked why wasn’t I told this sooner, because I’d have a cancelled check fee, which I did, she simply said “I dunno, I forgot” that’s it. She then told me “all I can afford is $300 for now” which I took. I was already giving her a good deal at the $1000, $300 these days is an insult to any professional. Still, I had 3 cans of cleaner, fresh cloths , and soap to clean her car off. I even demonstrated on her windshield how the cleaner works. It took the stain off within 2-3 minutes of setting. She didn’t want me to even try. So that was that. There is no way the car paint is damaged. It was a stain, not paint remover. The tree wasn’t even close to the deck so I have no idea how that’s possible. I took care to cover her yard decorations and siding. The car only had minor overspray because she had put it there while I was working, and I hadn’t realized until it was already hit. I’ve had no contact from the customer since. She’s dishonest and is looking to take advantage of workers."
