We had to take the family's pet cat in for an unexpected checkup. Though the cat is fixed, he still attempts to spray during mating season. This year, the cat suffered some unexpected gland issues that caused some irritation and horrible smell. We were able to get a next day appointment; first thing in the morning. Everyone at Devonshire was very courteous and professional. Only spent a few minutes in the waiting room. The vet and the assistant were hand-ons but in a gentle manner, being that my cat was rather upset and afraid of the situation. They determined that my cat needed to spend the afternoon so they could collect other bodily fluid samples. Testing was done quickly. The phone call with the results was handled compassionately with care that our family was worried about a possible major illness that our cat could be facing. Thankfully, no further issues were found to be wrong with cat and he was given a clean bill of health.

I had a cat who was ailing - we eventually discovered it was anemia - and I called Devonshire to get an emergency appointment. I reached their voicemail, left a message, and was called back within 30 minutes! What's more, they were able to secure an emergency appointment for me that afternoon.
I brought him in slightly early for the appointment and we got checked in. The office was very clean and professional-looking yet also friendly. It did not feel, at all, like the sterile and dry environment you'd expect to find in a vet's office. The staff were friendly and courteous - as fellow pet owners they empathized with what I (and my cat) was going through.
The wait was a bit longer than I had hoped - 30 minutes - but I think that this was due to the fact that this was an emergency appointment rather than one that was scheduled in advance. Once we were called we were escorted into a room that was set aside solely for cats - a feature that I loved. The room included a diffuser with a cat calming spray and once the doors were closed the cat was allowed to roam the room. I feel that this was a very nice touch as it made my cat more comfortable by allowing him to move around and not be confined to a carrier.
After the vet's assistant left us (performing some brief checks and hearing a description of the issue), we waited about 15 minutes in the room before Doctor Smiley, the practice's primary vet, arrived. He was very friendly and professional but also very empathetic. He allowed me to explain the situation and also what conclusions I had come to as well as hearing me explain some of what I had done to that point (we had a flea issue and I explained the steps I was taking and how I had first noticed them), without any condescension - in effect, though he was the professional he allowed me the opportunity to talk and give my thoughts and treated me as an equal in the discussion.
When he went to look at my cat he was quite friendly with him and also very gentle. I could tell that he was taking every action possible to ensure that my cat was treated well.
The blood work returned after a 15-20 minute wait and Dr. Smiley was very forthcoming in reviewing it with me, both verbally and with a paper copy as well. He explained everything in a manner that was easy to understand and presented his conclusions and gave a variety of actions we could take. He did not provide just one option and did not necessarily stress one over the other - instead, he allowed me to give my input on a course of action and then provided supporting actions when I decided on one (if X doesn't work we can do Y and Z).
Their office was very flexible in terms of payment; they allowed me to make a partial payment at the time of the visit and remove the rest on my next payday.
In short... I felt that Westminster is a good clinic and I will do business with them in the future. The only drawback was the wait time, but this may have also been due to the nature of the appointment that was made. We will see how a regularly-scheduled appointment performs.

Dr. Smiley is wonderful, he has my highest recommendation. Our 7 year old golden retriever needed to have a dental done in order to deep clean her teeth. Everything went great. Dr. Smiley did an outstanding job and Maddie's teeth look better than ever. I had a couple of questions before the procedure and Dr. Smiley answered every question I had and made me feel very comfortable about the procedure. He is terrific and Devonshire is the best vet around. In fact, we drive over an hour just to take our dogs here! I am a very protective mommy of our dogs, and I trust Dr. Smiley completely with them. I would recommend him to anyone!

It went great. When we were at our annual visit we asked Dr. Smiley why our dog's hair was falling out on his nose. Dr. Smiley took bloodwork and confirmed that our Golden Retriever had hypothyroidism. He prescribed medicine for Maverick and we were able to get him started on it right away. Dr. Smiley is wonderful and I would highly recommend him to anyone!

We absolutely love Dr. Smiley and Devonshire. They are truly wonderful and take such great care of our dogs. Dr. Smiley gave our 2 Golden Retrievers their annual shots and a checkup. He was very thorough and did an excellent job. He truly does care about our kiddos, which is a huge comfort to us. Dr. Smiley and Devonshire have our highst recommendation!

Words cannot even begin to express how thankful I am for Dr. Smiley and the entire Devonshire team! They were all absolutely wonderful at a time that was most difficult for me and my husband. Our 4 year old golden retriever had been up the night before vomiting and dry heaving. I called the doctor's office when they opened on Monday morning and they made an appointment for Maverick right away. Dr. Smiley did an exam on Maverick and then did some X-rays to see what the issue might be. The X-rays revealed that Maverick was suffering from bloat, which is basically when the dog's stomach twists and flips. Dr. Smiley explained to us that this was an emergency situation and that Maverick needed to go into surgery right away to try and untwist his stomach. Dr. Smiley explained to us the risks involved in the surgery. Surgery last 2 hours. Throughout the surgery Dr. Smiley's assistants came out several times to update us on how Maverick was doing. After surgery, Dr. Smiley sat down and explained us how the procedure went, exactly what he did and how Maverick was doing. Thankfully the surgery went well! I honestly cannot put into words the compassion that Dr. Smiley (and all of Devonshire) showed us during this difficult time. Our dogs are our kids, so this was beyond a difficult time for us. Dr. Smiley was very caring and supportive of us and was always willing to listen and answer all of our questions.
Maverick had to stay at Devonshire for 2 nights while he recovered. My husband and I wanted to be with Maverick as much as possible while he was recovering. The entire staff at Devonshire was so accommodating to us that they let us set up and quot;campand quot; in one of their exam rooms. We got to stay with Maverick much of the day in here. It was so nice that they were so understanding and so caring towards us. Maverick got to come home on Wednesday. Before we left the office, Dr. Smiley took the time to go through each of the medicines that Maverick would be on, how much to give him, when to give them to him, etc.
After we got home, I had a couple questions (as a paranoid mom typically does). Not only could I call the office any time I had a question, but Dr. Smiley was kind enough to give me his personal email address so that if something came up I could reach him anytime. Needless to say, I emailed Dr. Smiley several times in regards to questions that I had. Each time, Dr. Smiley emailed me back right away. One of the emails I sent was even at 10:00 at night...of which he still emailed me back right away!
I would highly recommend Devonshire and Dr. Smiley to any and every one! Dr. Smiley is truly a gift from Above and I will be forever grateful and thankful to him for saving our dear, sweet Maverick's life. He has a definite love for animals and truly cares for each of his patients. Thank you Dr. Smiley!
