About us

Iron Horse Antiques & Appraisers, established in 1978, specializes in pre-1920 American antiques and currently sells at various antiques shows around the country. In addition we are auction agents, we buy entire estates, and we buy gold, silver / sterling and platinum. We have conducted estate sales (via Iron Horse Estate Sales ) since the 1980s and also maintain a booth at Colonial Antique Mall in Woodstock, Illinois. We are members of the Chicago Suburban Antiques Dealers Association, the New England Appraisers Association, the Wisconsin Antiques Dealers Association , and the Northern Illinois Antiques Dealers Association. A family business, we travel all over the United States to buy, sell, appraise and consult. We met with Debbie and Jim last night to have them do an appraisal for us. The knowledge that they have about antiques was truly astounding. They were efficient in their appraisal so that it would keep our costs down. They were willing to work around our schedule, which was very helpful to us. We were pleasantly surprised about how honest and straightforward they were about the value of the jewelry that we had appraised. In the past, I have experienced other appraisers that have tried to be misleading about whether my jewelry had genuine value, so we were so thankful for their honesty. If you need an appraisal of an antique or if you would like to purchase an antique, these two lovely people are the ones to see.

Debbie and Jim were fantastic! They expertly sorted thru the jewelry and clearly explained the process as they worked. What a team! Would I use them again? In a heartbeat. They would be my first call. Even if there is something not "under their umbrella" of knowledge they have an excellent network of trusted people they can refer to. Will I recommend them to others? Debbie was very professional and so knowledgeable. Delivered a well researched and documented, detailed written list of appraised antiques. She is so knowledgeable. Debbie's daughter is Staci McArdle and she runs Iron Horse Estate Sales. What an amazing help she was in clearing out my house and making the mo$t of the items I decided I no longer needed after 50 years of accumulation. She made down sizing easy. I moved and left salable items in situ in the house, Staci and her crew organized everything for display, advertised well enough to gather a huge crows of potential buyers. What she didn't see, she had picked up by a charity, She totally cleared out the house and left only a 20" square pile of garbage in the garage for pick up by local trash co. Final result; photos of my empty house. so satisfying.

The experience was great!  They did purchase some items.  We were given a check immediately and they removed the items after they purchased them.  I would highly recommend this company.  They spent around 4 hours going through the premises and we believe they were absolutely fair in the price they gave us for the items they purchased.  They are also fun to work with!
