Empact construction services If I had the choice to have my home renovated for free by Empact Construction or pay top dollar for the renovation, I would pay top dollar to avoid the hassle of the numerous mistakes and constant (i.e. daily) vigilance that was required to either avoid mistakes or correct them.  Here are the most egregious (though not the only) errors they made: Bathroom 1. The gutted bathroom was not leveled correctly so when tile was installed it was significantly crooked in 80% of the corners.  It was redone but is still crooked in several places albeit less so. 2.  On bathroom walls without tile which were also gutted to the studs but never leveled the plaster job was atrocious and therefore the walls looked even more crooked than they were.  Three walls on one end of bath were crooked by almost a half inch before this was corrected. Windows 3.  Thirteen out of the 18 window panes newly installed by Empact got scratched by employees to such an extent that the window panes had to be replaced.   4.  The replaced window panes were not the same as original windows so not only were they ugly but they were obviously mismatched when compared to other windows next to them. 5.  The glass installer broke one of window panes after installation. 6.  When new windows were stained the sub-contacter thought he could get away with using just one coat of a varnish/top coat mix.  The result was worse than if the windows had been left with the bare wood: blotches, streaks and paint drips all over.  ALL 9 windows and trim had to be completely sanded and restained.  Same problem with new crown molding. 7.  Incompetent employees had to be told that sanding in between coats of stain and after staining were necessary.  They would have left the rough wood as is. 8.  Large hole about size of silver dollar drilled in middle of floor where no hole was needed.  Therefore flooring needed to be replaced. 9.  When blown in insulation was installed foreman did not tell insulation people of large 1 foot x 1 foot hole in lower level bathroom that was needed by plumber.  Therefore 4 large trash bags full of insulation ended up in bathroom from the upstairs insulation install. Tile 10.  Tilers told me they  did not use admixture purchased by me from tile store claiming they did not see it.  The contractor said he was told they purposefully did not use it because it was not necessary.   11.  Incompetent employee used admixture on tile according to him to "strengthen" grout.  This employee was used to save the contractor money to seal tile instead of tilers doing the sealing.  Both the professional tilers who did the installation as well as the tile store verified the solution was not to be used as the employee had done so. Plumbing 12.  Plumber did not install 3 out of 3 shower and tub valve trims correctly so instead of being vertical when in off position, they were at a 45 degree angle.  When asked about it he insisted it was correct.  Nevertheless an employee later corrected only after I INSISTED several times it was wrong and only after I had to call the manufacturer to inquire about it and receive confirmation it had been installed incorrectly.   Contract 13.  Per the written contract as well as our legal right we were to receive 7 waivers of lien for the subcontractors used.  Eight months after the project finished and 6 months after the project was paid in fulI I still have not received 5 out of the 7 waivers.   14. Empact tried to pad their final bill with approximately 3,000 of charges which we did not approve and for which they could provide no proof, therefore they were obliged to deduct this from the final bill. Overall: Beware of this company.
