The landscape designer we started our project with quit Hinsdale Nurseries during our project. Her boss Mike D. took over. He does know design and just a pushy salesperson. He did not listen to what we wanted. He changed the plan and said let's play it by ear the day of the install. They day of the install he sold us a bunch additional trees which he promised we would have a chance to see the layout before the trees went into the ground. He planted them without showing us the trees or layout, when we called to say they needed to be moved . . .he said we needed to reschedule and ofcourse they were booked several weeks out. Then they invoiced and charged us for all the trees including one that died. Dealing with them to fix this was impossible. The owner only wanted to defend Mike. We since hired a new landscaper to fix what they started and we had to remove many of the very expensive trees they sold us. The nursery is nice but very expensive. I would definitely NOT use them for a big landscaping project. They sell you one thing but do a terrible job on implementation and do not follow through on what they promise. Premier and other high end landscapers do a much better job for the price.

They need to be more consistent with their pricing. We had to negotiate the price down. The jump in price from one year to the next year was enormous. The price went from $500 one year to $900 the next year. That was the reason I was unhappy with them.

They blew away all of our mulch and took it with them; so we had to get new mulch this year.

They did a good job at a fair price. I did not see anyone and was at work the whole time. They did the work that I hired them for.

It went well.A designer came out and looked at the space and made some good recommendations for new plantings. We thought the price was in line and we liked her ideas so we scheduled the job for 4 weeks out. Everything was clear and communication was good via phone and email, The crew of two guys came out and did a great job, removing the old plants and planting the new ones and the designer made sure the new plantings went in the right spot. The only problem was that for one of the plants that was to be put into a couple of different spots, they originally brought out a smaller sized plant than was in the plans. We pointed out the error and someone drove the right sized plants out to the job site so it ended up fine. We really like our new landscaping a lot.

The work was outstanding.......done as quoted and on time. The downspout extension work involved a lot of digging. When completed, you would never know that underground work had been donedone. Professional, responsive, thorough with outstanding customer service.

The have a good selection of high quality plants. It is sometimes hard to find someone to help you, but when they do, they are knowledgeable and helpful. Their prices are higher than most, but at times, it is worth it. I've gotten plants there for years.

I called to get an estimate for the landscape maintenance and was told that they have to provide a consultation and to come and just take a look will cost me 75$ that is excessive and not reasonable. SO thanks but no thanks I will look somewhere else.

We purchased two lilac bushes to be planted in the back of our yard after the removal of two old rotting apple trees.
The quality of products I've bought before from Hinsdale Nurseries has been outstanding. We had a very rough weather last year and Hinsdale Nurseries stands behind their guarantees. We couldn't figure out what happened to the bushes, as their leaves curled up and altho they later had buds, the buds failed to open. Claire from Hinsdale Nurseries came out to investigate. She took a good look at them and we just couldn't figure out what went wrong, so they replaced them for us, honoring their guarantee.
The landscapers came out as scheduled-were quick and efficient-could hardly believe they were here-quiet, worked quickly, cleaned up very nicely-excellent job! Mother Nature can be a pain and you can't control her sometimes, no matter what you buy or where you plant it...I believe these new lilacs will be just fine. Claire is a phone call away, providing EXCELLENT customer service. We will be back very soon for more purchases and work to be done.

To reiterate, they require a $75 dollar fee just to provide an estimate.  Seriously?  What kind of service model is that?  Good bye.

We love to garden and usually do everything ourselves, but life got busy so we called a landscaper to do the heavy lifting for us in the Spring.  The crew of four guys who showed up were great.  They were punctual, professional and cleaned things up really well.  This was a big and tedious job and they WORKED, so no complaints there.
There were a couple of negative things.  We have(had) a lot of native perennials in our beds, and, early in the growing season, they can be mistaken for weeds if you don't know what they are.  Sadly, an entire 10 foot by 4 foot bed of bee balm was pulled before I noticed and ran out to tell the workers.  There was also a communication issue with regard to a large area at the back of our yard that is very overgrown - I told the project manager that the crew did not need to weed that spot (full of scrappy buckthorn, thistle, etc. - we knew it was a mess and didn't want to deal with it at the time).  While I was away from the house, the crew attended to that area, which I think over-extended the project by one day. FInally, the project manager recommended a type of mulch with a pre-emergent weed killer in it. While that did cut down on the weeds for the rest of the summer, it also made it difficult for our annual seedlings and dahlia to take root.  So, while the gardens looked tidy and weeds were minimized, they also suffered from a lack of the usual annuals and dahlias that we typically plant.
I would have Hinsdale Nurseries back to do the mulching and dressing of the garden beds.  If I ever have a landscaper do weeding in the future, I would personally go through each garden area and make sure that everyone knew what was a weed to be pulled and what was a perennial to be maintained. I probably wouldn't use the pre-emergent weed control mulch again because we grow a ton of plants from seed and and rely on the seeds from the perennials to perpetuate the gardens from year to year.

We had two large old apple trees removed from the back yard about a year ago and needed to put something in their place. The service that cut down the apple trees were very good but left two "graves" after they ground the stumps out. Our fault for not asking them to "clean up" these two spots. I chose Hinsdale Nurseries to find something to put in the "graves" and chose two good sized lilac bushes.

Oscar and Tano and Ryan came out as scheduled-and did an absolutely fantastic job. They are outstanding and I highly recommend Hinsdale Nurseries to everyone. They are professional, friendly and very detail orientated.

Hinsdale Nurseries also takes care of all the pre-dig stuff so the utility companies come out and mark their "territory" as to where not to dig ...then the crew will take the flags back with them, too, saving us a trip around the lot pulling the flags out of the ground.

They did an amazing job. I didn't expect it to turn out so good, as they had some extra digging to do and the "graves" had to be a challenge to Oscar and his crew.

I will be calling them again for much needed work around this home I bought about a year ago.

They stated a $75 consultation fee is due for any kind of estimate.
I do not deal with companies that are not confident enough to give a
free estimate for their work.

I like them a lot. They are careful to take care of everything in the yard. When they say they will take care of the beds, they take care of them whether I planted them or whatever. They let me know when there are any problems they see. I don't have to think about it and I can rely on them. I know they will come when it is time to take care of things. The price is broken down by service. I have almost an acre. They did the spring and fall cleanup and everything from top to bottom for the season. They are a little on the high side, but not a lot.

I really like them a lot. I've used them for almost 10 years now. I just keep having them back every year. It's not cheap but it's not out of line with what a lot of other companies are. I did try to see if I could find a little cheaper company. It turned out it wasn't cheaper and they didn't do the whole nine yards for the job so after just one year I went to another company, Premier, and I didn't like them at all. I went back to Hinsdale Nurseries and I haven't varied from them since. It's worth the money. They do such a good job. I pay them for the whole season all at once. It varies on what you want them to do, but for me it's somewhere $2700 and they give me a 10% discount. I always have them do an addition to that, mulch and stuff like that so I wind up paying a little over $3,000 if I ask them to do other things. It is expensive for a season. I have a big property and they do a great job on it. Obviously I like them because I've been using them for 10 years. If I didn't like them I wouldn't be using them so much and since it's not cheap, I still save up the money to use them because I like them so much. I've used other companies and they are in line for the services that they give with what other people are doing. I think they are probably average to slightly above average. With what the other companies are going to do, some of them are pricier and they haven't done as much. For what they do, they are worth it. They do a lot.

They quoted me about $2000.  My experience with them was great.  They were really knowledgeable.  We thought they had a really good handle on what we needed done.  We had no problems and we liked the guy that we worked with a lot.

I had a very good experience.  They sent out a landscaper to collect at the beginning of the season.  They are very efficient.  They do what they said they would do.  If I ask them to do something extra they will return the next day and do it.  They are very responsive; after having somebody not return phone calls. They are well supervised.  There is a supervisor that comes out periodically to check if the work has been done.  They are very organized.  They are professional.  They are just not sending people out but they have crews that know what they are doing.  Some people might think the price might be an issue but if they are looking for a real deal they might not consider them but you get what you pay for.  They are trustworthy.
