2-17-2022. Two reviews, 01-10-22 below for Wheaton Home This review on 2-17-2022 for Sandwich IL home My home Not all Radon mitigation companies are the same. I moved to my home in Sandwich IL. We worried about Radon causing Lung Cancer, and Radiation in the soil. We have 3 grandkids playing in our basement. Our existing system was installed with a 3 inch pipe and after googling the fan, the worst fan anyone could get. Rated Inexepensive. I hired Elliott for my parents home in Wheaton, therefore I used them again for Sandwich. Using Airthings Radon detector for 160 dollars from Home Depot online order only, our readings were 8.89 to 7.6 long term. Elliot Associates gave advice where to place it for a week, I had Radon everwhere . Elliott investaged found I needed two pipes one in our wine celler door opening, and pipes were undersized. They replaced the system with 4 inch pipe, and discovered no fire stopper openings were placed between the garage and the ceiling and wall. The system they installed was in side our garage to the rool. A properly sized fan in the attic. Our readings droped to .5 Pci from 8.89 long term measurements greater than a 2 day test. 50cm above the floor. Exact spot measured originally. Its been a week and they exceeded our expectations =average .5 PCi Our family is safe from Radiation and drinking water is safe, as well as Free from Radon causing Lung Cancer. My gradkids can safely play in our basement. This company not only mitigates, but redesigns using proven math and squarefootage. Drawings. Nothing is more important your family especially your wife with the grandkids. Nothing means more. Imagine what could happen to the family if Elliot and Associates are not helping? Your drawing of the solution was impressive. I myself am an electrical engineer. To solve problems I also draw it out. Drawings help me think of a solution. Your installers really made me feel they truly love their jobs. They are good at it, and even if a crazy man asks why you are drilling in a garage floor they answered and it was correctly done. Elliott & Associates are a wonderful company to work with! I would definitely recommend choosing them for radon mitigation. Very professional, excellent quality work, and a fair price. Elliott, the owner of the company, personally inspected my property and promptly delivered a quote. He explained everything and carefully considered the best placement for the system. Instillation went great. I chose Elliott & Associates because they perform flow checks to confirm that the entire basement floor has good suction from the proposed access point before doing any installation work. Once the system was installed they follow up by measuring the pressure at the same test points to verify that a negative pressure (i.e. suction) is being drawn at points farthest away from the newly installed system. The job was completed in about three hours. All components of the system are well labeled.

I was super impressed with how responsive Elliot & Associates was-they answered the phone, answered my questions, explained the process. Since we wanted the mitigation pipe to run up through our attic vs outside the house, we had lots of specific questions. (Where the pipe would travel, what stuff in the basement we would have to move, etc) Elliot himself came out prior to the install and answered everything. We had the work done by Dan & Brandon. They were knowledgeable, very courteous and continued to answer our specific questions during install. Everything worked out great.

Mold remediation went OK. Radon remediation, not good at all. The old bait and switch routine used. Given a price to do the radon and ended up paying almost double. When the technicians first did the job they told me it would pass with one suction point. They ended up coming back two more times to do it right. I ended up paying for two radon tests and also an extra 3% for using my charge card. If you need someone to do radon remediation right and are in a hurry, because you are selling the house, use some else.

"During my initial visit, I asked the client if there were any slab-on-grade areas beside the garage and he said no. I'm glad he had the architectural plans. After the first visit for mitigation, the radon levels were still elevated so we met again and I asked to revisit the architectural plans. The client remembered that he had changed the way the house was built, but it was not represented in the plans. After he identified this extremely small area, we conducted a sniffer test that indicated the radon concentrations were extremely high. We are so glad that he that he remembered that he changed the way the house was built. This piece of information was critical in solving this elevated levels of radon. Please note: Our contract stated that an area at a different elevation or separated by a foundation would not be covered by the radon mitigation. The additional suction point that finally brought the radon level to below 4.0 pCi/l, was a suction point in a concrete slab that was only 30 inches by 30 inches, outside the garage, and hidden under wood decking. No other radon mitigation contractor would have able to diagnose the source. We added a suction point to the 30 inches by 30 inches slab and reduced levels below 4.0 pCi/l. He called in the morning and we promptly arrived in the afternoon. During this process we conducted radon diagnostics with CRM'[Member Information Removed], that we provided for FREE. Yes, it took two visits to fix the issue so that he could sell his house due to an originally unknown source of radon, but we worked diligently and promptly until it was corrected."

They were very thorough in their estimation of exactly what needed to be done. They were prompt in their arrival. They made sure that I understood everything that they were going to do and answered all of my questions. When they completed the remediation, they went over all aspects of what I should be on the lookout for and how to make sure that the equipment was functioning properly. They not only did remediation work for our real estate attorney but my brother as well.

This service was executed perfectly, Elliot personally came to my home and inspected, he also went over the report we received from the original testers. His expertise was invaluable to the health and safety of my home for my family and for the future family that will be moving in. The installers, Dave and Phil showed up right on time, they cleaned up after themselves and did a nice job on installing our radon mitigation system. Due to their three point suction pick-up, my radon levels went from between 7 and 12 (4.0 is considered by the EPA to be the highest acceptable) down to 0.48. (outside levels are around 0.4). So it is working extremely well. They were also kind enough to answer my questions during the installation. I can't speak to their pricing as I did not cost compare, but rather I chose a company that does excellent work. And it was an inside installation which means that the fan is in our attic as opposed to outside. This makes the installation nearly invisible except for the vent through the roof which looks like just another plumbing vent.

I highly recommend Elliot and Associates as a service provider for radon remediation. I purchased a Safety Siren Radon Gas Detector online and was confused about how to use it. After calling five other vendors Elliot was the first person who clearly explained the placement and use of the detector. When I determined that I had a problem, he came out to my house and explained my options. He followed up by emailing me a proposal that reflected his many years of experience, his thoroughness, and his commitment to quality service. I was impressed with the level of detail and with how conscientious he was in following through. The men he sent to do the work were prompt, professional, and neat. They answered all of my questions. Like Elliott they seemed determined to do a good job. My radon detector shows that they corrected the problem. Elliot called me in a few days to see how things went and gave me additional information about preventing mold. I was impressed with Elliott & Associates from the start. I found them on Angie's list, read the reviews and decided to contact them about installing a radon mitigation system. I filled out an on line form and included a comment that I really needed this work done ASAP, so would appreciate it if they could contact me right away. Elliott himself called me the next morning, less than 24 hours after I filled out the online form. The online form is very detailed and takes a lot of time to do, but it's worth doing because it allows Elliott to assess your needs and give you some rough estimate of cost and what kind of mitigation system you need. He was able to get me on the schedule right away. I called back at least twice before the system was installed because I had some questions. The people I spoke w/were always patient, courteous and able to answer my questions. The men who installed the system were punctual, clean, courteous and professional. They explained to me exactly what they were going to do. They appeared to work together very well and were quite efficient. They did an excellent job cleaning up...I would never have known they were at my house. Elliott and his team were also very good about email correspondence and sent me the documents I needed to provide at my house closing regarding the mitigation system they installed. I would highly recommend Elliott & Associates to anyone needing a radon mitigation system installed in their home.

They did good work and I would recommend them. They were very good and they got the work done very quickly. They were on time and so they were very professional. They educate the consumer. They explain things and they take the time to do that. They come up with alternative solutions on how to address the issue. They were very good. For the price, no one wants to pay any money for doing stuff like this. I don't know what a fair price is, they probably are fair. I would use this provider again in the future if I had to.

I went with this company because the person I spoke to on the phone (who was friendly) seemed to explain a more sophisticated method for determining the optimal location for the system then their cheaper competitors, who may just drill a whole in the slab and hope it works. When the installers were on site, I saw really no sophistication in placing the system suction point; fan unit was placed near the AC fan, which they say is common, and a suction point was placed in the slab about 6 feet in from where the vent duct entered the house. Installation was on a ranch style house with a concrete slab crawl space.
Also, they quoted an air draw suction point as a second suction point for an additional $500, which was higher than the prices I was quoted for additional suction points. The air draw suction point was to be a vent pipe run into the inaccessible crawl space underneath a home addition. The installers couldn't really give me any piece of mind that this air draw suction point would work for the radon issue or of the inefficiencies of an air draw type suction point, and I got the impression that they didn?t want to install it anyway. I opted out of this second suction point installation.
All in all, I thought the work done was clean and simple; although I would recommend this company again, having gone through this experience, I probably would have called around for a few more quotes because I suspect the end product would have been very similar across the board.
