They showed up on time at 8:30 am and came on the day they promised. The problem was they were supposed to have at least 3 (three) movers show up but only 2 (two) movers showed up to do the move. In reality four movers were probably needed as it was a big job. Unfortunately, since there were only two movers rather than three or four, the move took a whole lot longer than planned and the movers were extremely over worked and tired. Since they were so tired, one of the movers left his tools at our old house. He realized this when we got to our new house.
Luckily, when we got to our new house, two more movers arrived to help unpack. If they hadn't come, the move would have gone on until after dark. When the movers left, I noticed that they left their dolly in our garage. When I went back to our old house to clean up, I noticed that they also left their plastic wrap and a long strap. I called and left a voice mail message at their office number but the dolly was not picked up until I called them again and spoke with their admin assistant. (The dolly sat in front of my house for four and a half days.)
When I went to put up my book shelves, I noticed that several screws were missing so I had to go out and find replacement screws.
Basically, they were really nice guys but needed to be more professional --- to make sure that they took their tools, dolly, and other items and to not lose any book shelf screws. They also needed a lot better support from management. It is very difficult for only two men to do the work of three or four men.

This was not our first move with Deerfield Movers but once again they did a wonderful job for us. The owner was prompt, courteous and always quick to offer a solution. The crew was hard working, showed up on time and worked until the job was done. My family was a bit unorganized but each mover was understanding and helpful when the situation called for it. For such a stressful event, Deerfield Movers made it much easier for all of us. Thank you!.

There was the pre-packing 3 days prior to the move, which facilitated the move quite well.  Also, if I needed more boxes, wrapping paper or tape, I called the secretary and she had someone drop them off within a few days.
After arrival at 7:45am, they moved out all the items and were finished by 4:45pm.  We had a LOT of things, it took up 2/3 of the moving van so they were very quick considering.
Then when they arrived in Texas, they came precisely on time but it was the weather that delayed the next step.  it had hailed and stormed the night before, then again at 5am.  So the very steep driveway we were on was extremely slippery.  They had to wait about an hour before the driveway dried up enough to safely move the boxes, etc.  I mean this was an INCREDIBLY STEEP driveway which also then took a 90 degree turn into the garage so this was very difficult.  No complaints from any of the guys.  In fact, our two Jack Russell terriers liked them and were perfectly at ease with them.  We were impressed by how efficient and hard working these guys were.  I would enthusiastically recommend Deerfield's Moving to anyone.  I just wish we could use them again for our final move in Texas but they're based out of Illinois.
We cannot say enough good things about this company.  I don't know where they get such great workers.

Having read stories and heard first hand accounts of disastrous long-distance moves, I was quite apprehensive.  I originally contact First Class Movers, who had done a local move for me recently and who had done a terrific job.  They told me they could do the move, but as it was a small amount of stuff, it would wind up being much more costly for us than if we went with a consolidated type move.  They recommended I shop around and talk to movers who could do a consolidated move.   I contacted Deerfield Moving, based on what I read on Angie's List.    I also contacted a couple of other movers from Angie's list to get estimates from them as well in order to compare.  The other companies who came out were also professional and responsive.  However, Deerfield gave us a very reasonable price.  More important, however, was the personal and ultra-professional service Deerfield offered.  Don Hoffman came out to our house and went through it with me to inventory what would need to be moved (we weren't moving everything).  He then sat down with me and went through how the pricing would be determined, some things we might want to think about (things I had never even thought about, like tax deductibility, etc.), and explained that with the type of move we were doing, he couldn't guarantee an exact date for delivery, and explained the ins and outs of how that time window would work.  He was incredibly professional and helpful throughout, and told us he would try to get us dates that were close to what we were looking for (it all depends on what other loads are on the truck, as ours was quite small).  He was quite generous with his time; he treated us as though we were doing a $30,000 move, even though his estimate for ours, when he determined it, was around $1550.   He also said that the driver who would be taking it to KC was known to him personally, and could be relied on.   After we signed up with Deerfield, communication continued to be excellent throughout.   Don, or someone from his office, kept us updated every step of the way.
The loading day went relatively uneventfully (there seemed to be a lot of time during the loading where nothing was really being done, but we were being charged by weight, not hourly, so that is really an internal question between Atlas and Deerfield).   On the day we were supposed to have the load delivered, the mover and his assistant were absolutely punctual.  (And,  Don managed to get us a date within the window we were hoping for).   Despite the fact that there was a problem--the large moving van couldn't get to the loading dock through the alley because of how the cars on the street were parked--both movers stayed calm and resourceful, and we just moved everything in through the front of the building.   The move-in was, unlike the loading up, quite efficient, and both men were careful with our things and friendly and helpful throughout.  The paperwork was clearly explained--and a nice surprise.  Our load weighed less than the estimate, so we wound up getting a refund of about $150  dollars.  Almost nothing was damaged--the sum total of damage was to one knob on a dresser, which the mover glued back on and offered to have us write up as a problem (we declined--it was really a minor problem).  Again, everything was organized, setbacks like the problem with the alley were dealt with effectively and cheerfully, and care was taken with our possessions.  And the pricing was more than competitive--it was significantly lower than our other quotes.  It is possible that we were given a very competitive price because we may be doing a much more substantial move in the near future.  It is possible that we were given such excellent care and service for the same reason.  However, even if that is true, I really appreciate that someone crosses every "t" and dots every "i" to ensure that they get repeat business.  And, if we do have a bigger move soon, Deerfield has earned my repeat business--they were efficient, they lived up to their promises, they were careful, they communicated well, and they were professional and friendly (everyone we had contact with) throughout.  I don't think you can ask for more.  In particular, Mr. Hoffman's time and care--in short, his old-school professionalism,  was greatly appreciated.  His painstaking attention to detail gave me great confidence and went a long way to reducing the anxiety that attends to almost any move.

Don came out to give us an estimate.  We were impressed at the level of detail he provided in his estimate as well as the price as compared to other moving companies. The movers showed up in their truck on time (between 8 and 9- and they showed up at 8:15).  While Tom performed inventory writeup, and packed the china and dishes, Sean and Mike moved our furniture out of our townhouse (we had a two story townhouse + a basement).  They worked quickly and handled all the little things that sometimes don't packed.  The team was very flexible to work with, and gave us advice on some of the loose items.  They took apart beds, crib, and a few other pieces of furniture that could be, as well as packed our clothes into wardrobe boxes.  All in all, it was the least stressful move we've ever had. When unloading in St. Louis, it was equally non-stressful.  The team was meticulous about padding up walls, stairways, doors - and we were very appreciative at the care they took with both our old house and new house.  Again the team, helped us getting squared away before they left and helped me put together the TV (though I don't think they had to).  This was smooth as could be. All in all, I've used other professional moving companies in Chicago - but Deerfield was honestly the best we've had by a long shot.  We decided that based on how there was no damage nor really any stress in the whole process.  We highly recommend them if you move either in or out of Chicago.

The experience with them was good. My moved got delayed for some health reasons, and they were the one company that kept following up. They came to look at my stuff that was in a storage area so that they could give me an accurate quote. They stuck to their quote, and that's what I paid. I was pretty pleased with them. The delivery was fine. The co-ordinator in Phoenix really made the difference in me going with them. She stayed on top of the situation, and contacted me when we were delayed.
