The installer arrived on time.  This wasn't a huge job but it wasn't necessarily your typical job either.  The installer had to work with and around an existing cabinet.  It didn't take very long before I was putting my items back in the closet and getting organized.  The installer was professional, clean, accommodating and respectful.  What more can you ask for!!!

Thank you California Closets!

Good quality product and attentive people, both the sales person that initially came out and the installer were professional and thorough.

My closets look amazing. I have now done all of mine - 3 walk-ins and 3 bifold doors - with California Closets. The installers arrive within the time frame - they are very neat before and after the installation. They have you inspect what work has been done and answer any questions you may have in a very polite way. I have just had a small job done in my laundry room and California Closets never made me feel like the job was too small for their services. Every job is handled in a very professional way. My designer Pam S. was outstanding. California Closets is worth every penny and I will always use them for my closet needs.

We have used Cal Closets before, in our previous home, and were very pleased. For this home, Design Consultant Maureen did a also great job. She spent about an hour walking the house and asking questions to figure out our needs. She consulted our previous designs and asked what worked and what we thought needed to change now that our family is larger. She was conscious of cost concerns and gave numerous options at different price levels. The two installers came on time, did a perfect installation, cleaned up afterwards, and were courteous and very good at what they do. The only reason that I gave a B on responsiveness is because it took a number of tries to get someone to return our initial calls and match us up with a design consultant. Had we not previously used Cal Closets and known the quality of their work, we would have gone elsewhere just based on having no initial response. Once we were matched with Maureen, she was prompt in all of her contacts with us and she gets an A for responsiveness. She even came out and checked on the work while it was being done. We're very pleased with the results and highly recommend them.

Great. We went through several iterations on the designs to ensure we were maximizing space and getting the design that we wanted. Overall, the price was competitive -- I was a little surprised, as I had (incorrectly) assumed that CC would be on the higher end of the estimates we received. The installers completed everything in a timely manner and cleaned up after. There were several baskets that had not arrived for our master bedroom in time to be installed with everything else, so they gave us a free accessory for the inconvenience (the baskets arrived the following week).
The quality is fantastic and the many color options helped us to find exactly what we were looking for. They were even able to install our own hardware that we had purchased for drawers in the master bedroom. I would have liked some other options on the type of rods available (we were never given options, but I'm assuming there may be other ones, it just slipped my mind at the time) as I'm not the biggest fan of the matte finish ones that we have, but not a deal-breaker for us.
Overall, we were very satisfied with the process and the product. We would definitely use California Closets again in the future.

After doing some research trying to decide would this be a good DIY project, we left it to the pros. We stopped by the office and shop where the system is built and were able to see what style, finishes and accessories are available. Our design consultant who came to the house asked great questions and actually gave good ideas on how to use the space. The ideas were not an up-sale. She measured our clothes and shoes and the space they were occupying. The measurements were then put into a program while sitting at the kitchen table. We were able to see in 3D what the closet would look like. From there we offered suggestions and tweaked it to the final design. Installation was two weeks later. The crew was great; professional, neat, clean and organized. We thought California Closets would be out of our price range. After looking at other systems this is by far the best quality and service.

We've had California Closets come out twice now. Once to do the MB Closet which turned out awesome. The last time was for a laundry room setup against one wall. There were some issues the first time they came to install the laundry room, but they took care of those, came back and made the changes necessary at no extra cost to us and got us back on the install list within 2 weeks. They have been great to work with and we will definitely be using them again for other projects.

This is the 2nd time we've used California Closets, and I couldn't be happier. They were very prompt in calling me from my initial request. They actually still had my records from my first project 6 years ago! Vickie came out to measure and talk through the design of each closet with me. The next day I had virtual images of each closet reflecting the agreed upon layouts. I was able to make multiple changes until I was satisfied with how everything looked. On the day of installation they were prompt and installed everything with ease. They did have to take one shelf back to get cut (since my 57 year old house doesn't have straight walls) but they brought it back same day to finish installation. I highly recommend them!

The consultant who came to measure and design was very professional. The installers were excellent and prompt. There were several problems, however, all of which were addressed:

1) we wanted a small wall safe to be mounted between the studs in the wall. The product which showed up with the installers was completely wrong. It was a floor safe. California Closets fully refunded the money for ordering a safe which didn't work.

2) The linen closet design was not good - and we didn't notice the shortcomings until after the installation. Essentially, our linen closet is 18and quot; by 18and quot;. Because of the support system used by California Closets, we lost 1and quot; on each side of the closet; and the shelves, rather than being 18and quot; deep were 14and quot; deep. So essentially we lost the equivalent of more than one shelf. We were never informed of this by the designer, and we didn't notice the detail on the design. After installation, when we raised our concern over the loss of space, their proposal was to redo the linen closet design - at a discounted additional cost of $200 - and that redesign would still not completely satisfy our needs. In fairness - I'm not sure that they have a product that fit our needs - or at least it wasn't offered to us. We ended up tearing out the California Closets installation and going with the wire Elfa system sold by the Container Store at a cost of $200. Same cost as the California Closets re-design, but more in line with our needs. Walt at California Closets authorized sending us approximately $200 worth of accessories that we originally wanted anyway as compensation for the miscue.

3) When the design was being discussed, we were asked if we wanted chrome rods for the closets or a matte-like finish. We thought that the matte finish would look nicer and chose that. When the rods were installed we discovered that our hangers would not slide on the rods. It was as if they were stuck in place. Walt authorized swapping out the rods for chrome (at no cost to us) and these work fine. The installer who came out to swap the rods told us that the matte rods should be used only for plastic hangers. We were never informed of this by our designer. (strike two for the designer)

4) We had a problem with one of the old California Closets (one of the existing closets that were already in the home). When we started to load up the closets with books, the closet supports sagged visibly. They came out immediately (same day) to fix the problem. I was very impressed with the speed and that they honored their lifetime guarantee.

To summarize: We are happy with the closets, and with the followup support that Walt was excellent. In retrospect, the designer that initially worked with us made several mistakes, and that caused some headaches as described above. The price was competitive with other quotes that we got - not the highest and not the cheapest.

We had some old shelving units and cabinets in our laundry room (quasi-functional but ugly) and wanted to make it more organized and streamlined. We contacted four organizations and arranged for each to come to our house and provide us with ideas and a quote. At the last minute, we decided to contact California Closets (the Lombard franchise at 630.916.7393), but we knew that they would be the most expensive. Boy, were we wrong. California Closets was the second lowest bidder out of five, and only $300 more than the cheapest company. The company in the middle was $500 more than California Closets and the most expensive company was $1,700 more than California Closets. We could have gone with the least expensive company and saved $300 but we did not. Why? 1 California Closets has been in business for over 30 years. They have an impeccable reputation for a reason. We knew the brand and we knew it stands for quality and workmanship. 2 There is a lifetime guarantee on their work and product. 3 The salesperson, Walt, listened to us. He took his time with us. He had superior follow up. We felt as if we were his only customers. 4 Walt asked questions and came up with ideas that made us think about our space in a new and different way. 5 We had a large, unsightly heating vent that needed hiding, but it was in a funny place and did not run the length of the space. California Closets' ability to customize that particular area so that it was hidden behind one of the doors was so much more aesthetically pleasing than the other solutions (put a fascia in front, paint it, etc). 6 California Closets can customize any space and ndash; height, width and depth. Many companies have standard heights. 7 He measured everything at his first appointment and then, as he sat at our kitchen table, provided us with a quote on the spot. We reviewed the design, moved things around and got to see a 3-D image of what the closet system would look like in our space. Other Pros: 1 The technician who installed our system was polite, hardworking, friendly, efficient and quality-driven. 2 The technician said that he would arrive at 9:00 that morning, and he arrived at 8:50! Love it! 3 After it was complete, the technician showed us everything, provided us with some extra parts, and cleaned every surface with a wonderful smelling (and environmentally friendly) citrus cleaner. 4 A quality control consultant came by the house shortly after it was installed (did not expect that one!) to look over the construction and answer any questions that we may have. He wanted to make sure that we were happy with the design and installation. He opened all of the doors and drawers to make sure they were in working order and gave everything the once-over. 5 Walt contacted us after the installation to make sure that we were satisfied. We really appreciated that our relationship did not end the moment that the check was cashed. Cons: Not a single one. Some advice: When the first company comes over to give you an estimate and design ideas, it's likely that you may not know exactly what you want. By the time you see your final company, you will probably know exactly what you want (height, width, number of doors and drawers, etc). Make sure that you compare like designs when comparing prices. To that end, we requested that the earlier companies revise their designs/bids so that we could compare the prices for the exact same design side by side.
