Battery replaced in 5 minutes. I also brought in 2 other watches which need repairs - they will be getting back to me with an estimate. I will post another update on estimates and work done. All battery replacements in March are going to Feed the Starving Children charity - nice to see a merchant making this effort.
Description of Work: Went in to have a watch battery replace. Work was done in 5 minutes for $5.00. Even better, all battery replacement charges in March are going to a charity - Feed The Starving Children.

I initially took my 20 year old Raymond Weil watch to a high priced watch and jewelry store in Naperville, who said that my watch needed repairs that would cost more than $250. I took it to Stones Jewelry for a second opinion. They opened the watch, did a cleaning of the battery port, replaced the battery ... And it worked like new. I paid a paltry $5 for the service and was out the door with my working watch within 10 minutes. Great, helpful people here.

Initially the price given for the ring sizing and the tie bar was around $20.00 each. My wife got a call on July 9th to say that the cost of the tie bar would be $50.00. She called me at work with the new estimate and I decided that was not worth it so she called them back immediately to cancel that part of the work. We went on July 20th to pick up the ring and the other two pieces and I found that they had done the work anyway and that I owed them $80.00. I paid at the time, but when I told my wife that I was not happy that they had done the work, she went back immediately to complain, since she had been the one to make the call cancelling the order. She said the woman that she talked to was very nice about it. The employee went to explain the situation to the owner of the store and she went looking for the order envelope. When she found it they had the record of the call to my wife and her call to cancel the order, but they also had a record of someone calling on July 10th to say do the work. Neither I nor my wife called to say do the work. Both of us agreed that price was not worth it. Their resolution to this was that if we wanted our money back, they would remove the pin from the tie bar. That would have left both pieces destroyed. The pin had the pin backing sawed off to attach to the tie bar and had been laser soldered on. My wife got so upset by this attitude that she told them if they were going to destroy the pieces like that to just keep their money and we would never use them again. We were very disappointed by what we thought was a professional place of business.
Description of Work: I wanted my college ring sized larger and I also wanted to see if they could attach my Metra pin to a plain tie bar that I had to make a customized tie bar.

They replaced a section on the bottom of rings that had weakened from a past sizing many years ago. They also soldered the rings together, as the lock had also broken. When i took them in to the store, the staff was very polite, and professional. Because my wife has been wearing these together for almost 47 years, and was very upset when they broke, Stone's knew how much sentimental value they held for her. I was given a date that they would be finished. When Stone's needed a little more time, they called me right away to let me know. In a couple more days, the rings were ready for me to pick up. Even with the extra work needed, i was charged the original estimate price. I did this mainly for her Mother's Day gift surprise, but she found out. When I gave them to her, she cried and said, "OMG!!! They are so beautiful! I didn't think I could ever wear them again!" She then called Stone's and spoke with Gail to thank them personally.

They replaced the battery on a Bulova watch while I waited. Although they had several customers in line ahead of me, I was still in and out of the store in 10 minutes. They do warn you that once they open the back of the watch and 'break the seal', they can't guarantee that it will continue to be waterproof. But I another watch repair shop gave me the same warning. And so far, I haven't had any issues. I also asked them to repair the metal clasp on another watch. The clasp tended to pop open with the slightest pressure. So, they asked me to leave it with them. They called me two days later to let me know that the watch was ready for pickup. And they only charged me $3 for the repair!
Description of Work: Replaced the battery one one watch and repaired the metal clasp on another watch.

Great.
Description of Work: One watch needed to have the band repaired and needed a battery. A second watch also needed a battery. We walked in and were immediately greeted. When we approached the counter, someone immediately said we'll be right with you. The watches were attended to right away and we only waited about 10 minutes. At the end, the nice jeweler told us about the store's 100th birthday party for the community last year, sounded fun with period food and dress. We'll go back when we need repairs.

I found Stones on Angie's list after receiving an estimate from another area jeweler that was much higher than Stones' estimate. The ring being repaired was a mother's ring, app 25 years old, that originally had 5 stones. One of the stones had fallen out, 3 of the other 4 were badly scratched, and the prongs were very worn. I left the ring at Stones for the repair person to evaluate. I was quickly called with 2 estimates, one high, one low, for 2 different approaches to refurbishing the ring. I chose the higher which included replacing 3 of the 4 stones and buying a new stone to replace the lost one. I was told it would take app. 10 days. After a bit more than 2 weeks, I called Stones since I was going to see my mom & wanted to return her ring then. I gave them my deadline; they agreed to meet it. Shortly after that, Stones called to verify the type of stone that been lost. I felt at that time that the salesperson had taken poor notes and perhaps had forgotten me or put the order aside. However, they finished the ring on time and it looks great. They had a lot of great looking pieces in their showroom, and I would absolutely shop there.

I went to them because they were convenient, family ran establishment and have been in business for quite awhile (in the fifties I think). I think the repair shop is very professional and friendly and that is what has made me consider using them again.
Description of Work: They overhauled an Elgin watch, they cleaned it, replaced the crystal, the face was rusted a bit, lubricated it and replaced the watch band at my request.

I broke a prong on a gold and diamond ring, and one of the three stones came out. I brought the ring and loose stone to Stones Jewelry last week. The lady at the counter was very helpful, pointing out possible cause and giving me an accurate quote. The work was finished when she said it would be, and the ring looks new again.
