We are livid regarding our experience with JA Construction (aka { remove company name}, aka Frank and Emily Txxxxxx). Their approach was unprofessional from the start, red flags I (unfortunately) ignored because I needed the job done fast and had trust because It is Angie List (I guess it is changed). We paid Emily Txxxxxx (directly) $900 for JA Construction to do an extremely simple carpentry job: build a 16 inch × 12 ft, light-duty, plywood ramp to go over 5 steps to our yard *for use by our 55 lb disabled dog only*. They managed to make this extremely simple job - for which we provided them a drawing & specific dimensions - way more complicated than necessary, and extremely heavy, by insisting on using scrap wood they had left over from decking projects and huge 2 × 12 stringers. Ultimately, b/c we needed the ramp asap, we accepted their choice of materials even though it was not what we wanted. However, in their insistence on using those materials, they screwed up the agreed upon *DIMENSIONS* of the ramp and therefore the *angle*/steepness of the ramp - my disabled, getiatric former agility dog slides down it & has developed a fear of it b/c it's too steep. They ALSO permanently and *unecessarily* altered an existing structure on our property without our permission - namely, they cut into our back porch stairs and did not even point it out to me. And permanently altering porches without a permit is a no-no in the city of Chicago. We expressed our unhappiness to Frank and he assured us they would be back the next day to fix it. But he and his carpenter just gave us the run around for the next 10 days or so. Then Frank started with some BS excuse saying that it was actually his carpenter who we had the contract with and JA Construction was a subcontractor for the carpenter?? And so Frank/JA was not responsible DESPITE THE FACT THAT I FRANK GAVE ME THE ESTIMATE, I MADE THE CONTRACT WITH HIM, AND I PAID EMILY TREVINO VIA ZELLE AT FRANKS REQUEST. AND THAT FRANK WAS PRESENT AT THE JOB SITE & ACTING LIKE THE BOSS THE WHOLE TIME THEY WERE BUILDING IT. The carpenter stopped returning our texts calls and Frank hung up on my husband. At that point I threatened to take it to social media because they would left me no other option. When my husband followed up Frank told him to fxxx off Indisputable facts: - They got the dimensions wrong (agreed upon in writing in advance and confirmed multiple times in writing and verbally) - They cut into our stairs without asking permission and without notifying me. - Both Frank and the carpenter said they would be back to fix it asap and then proceeded to tell us they were coming every day the weather was good but never showed up and never called to let us know they were not coming. - they just stopped responding to our calls and texts with no plausible explanation of why they were not required to fix *their mistakes* thar they previously admitted to making. No integrity. Do not stand by their work. Conned a disabled woman and her disabled dog out of $900.
