Everything was fine and a good job was done.

In the spring I usually see a couple of box elder bugs inside my home. This year I was killing at least 10 of them a day throughout my house. I found Greathouse Pest Control Services on Angie's List and Doug returned my call within 24 hours. It was very easy to schedule an appointment with him. He arrived promptly and went through the house spraying along baseboards, windows, doorways, etc. He sprayed on all 3 levels of my home and outside as well. I saw results within 12 hours and within a couple of days the house was bug free. for a few weeks following the application I would see a dead bug in the basement area. I was very pleased that on the receipt provided Doug indicates he would return within a 6 month period if I felt additional services were needed.

Doug was fantastic. Professional and very thorough. Carefully inspected my entire house, including the crawl, and closed up all places where mice could make their way into the house. Laid poison in unobtrusive places, treated outside of the house for box elders and sprayed for ants for good measure. Overall experience couldn't have been better. Returned calls promptly, wore shoes protectors, was a very nice guy and the price was extremely fair. After using a ton of different services while getting the house ready to sell, Doug was by far the best (and restored my faith in independent businessmen). I HIGHLY recommend using him for any pest control needs.

Selected Greathouse Pest Control Services in Wheaton. Called first thing in the morning and spoke with Doug Hamel, founder/owner/operator of Greathouse. He described what he’d do and what the cost would be. He was able to come out that afternoon, was on time, friendly, professional and careful not to track-in dirt, etc…and he answered all of my questions, of which there were more than a few. Most of all, Doug went about his business, inspected the house and sprayed the affected areas including baseboards and above the ceiling tiles, as well as the outside of the house and garage. He was here about an hour and three quarters and appeared to do a very thorough job. After 25+ years in the business, Doug has “seen it all” and I was totally confident that the ants had met their match. Plus, if they should reappear, Doug will come out again and retreat the areas at no charge. And, unlike some other pest control companies which try immediately to sell you on a longer term contract, Doug was totally focused on addressing my immediate concern. I was very pleased with Greathouse’s treatment of my ant problem, and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Doug was very friendly when inquiring about his services and flexible with times that he could come look at our issue. His pricing was lower than other exterminators I called and his guarantee was 3 months longer. For our appointment, he arrived on time and was very knowledgeable about the ants and pests in general. Luckily, he reassured us that we did NOT have carpenters ants but sprayed around the house and inside our doorways & basement. He said that we should watch closely for ants for the next 7 days because they will try to enter the house to escape the repellent. He offered to come back if after that time frame, they still were coming in. Needless to say, he did the trick and we have not had any ants since!

Doug was able to come over very soon after we called. He took down any visible wasp nests and then sprayed around the house as well as the basement and garage. He was very nice and didn't require any sort of contract to be signed for any future treatments. He just said the work was guaranteed for 6 months and if we noticed anything in that time to call and he would treat it again, no additional cost.

We live in an area where there are a lot of trees and plants, thus a great location for bugs and critters. Doug is a very knowledgeable guy. He knows more about insects and rodents, their habits and what works to control them, than anyone around.

You could engage a large, national chain for your pest control, but you're paying for marketing, not knowledge.

Very satisfied.  Doug treated the ant and wasp infestation areas and then provided a perimeter treatment around the entire house and eaves.

I was getting mice in my basement 3-4 times per year, and was at the end of my rope.  A friend of mine recommended Greathouse Pest Control, so I called.  Doug Hamel could not have been nicer.  He examined the outdoor perimeter of my house and found 3 different spots where the mice could enter.  He put stainless steel and/or copper screening into those spots, which mice will not chew through.  I have waited until now to write this review, as I wanted to make sure I wouldn't get anymore mice.  It's been 7 months, and I have no mice!  I can finally walk in my basement without being afraid of what I will find there.  What a relief!

Doug had serviced our home for mice in 2014.  He had discovered some rotted wood under a bay window where the mice were entering.  He took care of what he could and we had a carpenter (also from Angie's list) repair the wood. He commented at that time that since he could not access the area under our deck he could not be 100% certain that all possible entry points were taken care of.  We did not have a problem with mice for quite some time.  When we discovered mice again we called Doug again and he came out promptly.  He thought the mice were  possibly entering from a spot under our deck which he could not access.  We coordinated with the same carpenter to remove deck boards so Doug could have access.  He identified problem areas, the carpenter made the repairs, and Doug returned to finish preventive treatments.  I am confident that we have solved our problem with mice.   We are very pleased with Doug's responsiveness, his professionalism, his thorough treatments and his more than fair price.

I found them on Saturday night and left a message. Doug called me on Sunday and scheduled for Monday. He was prompt, professional and courteous. Job is done, I can let the kid and the cat out again! Would definitely recommend.

I called Doug at Greathouse late on a Monday afternoon. He called right back, and came out Tuesday morning when we were at work. He took care of the problem and we weren't even at home, very convenient. We used him last summer for an unpleasant problem we were having and he was great. Totally resolved the problem in one visit although I had been told on the phone by another exterminator it couldn't be fixed. We highly recommend Greathouse.

When I called Doug, I was looking for a pest control service that would go above and beyond what other services provide. Basically, I needed someone to not only apply pesticide to take care of our carpenter bee problem, but I also wanted someone who would be willing to caulk the holes after the bees had been dealt with. (Other pest control services have refused to do the caulking.) The caulking was very important for a number of reasons.I was unable to do it and my husband was in the hospital and couldn't do it. So I needed someone who could take care of the entire process for me.
Doug was the right person to call. He came out, assessed the problem, and told me he would be willing to caulk. He spent most of the day here and did everything he said he would do. He also discovered another minor pest problem (powderpost beetles), which we still need to address.
Doug will be coming back in the spring to spray so we can ward off another carpenter bee attack next year!
Doug was a life-saver for me. I was so pleased with his service and would highly recommend him to anyone.

Doug promptly answered my call and I was able to be scheduled at my convenience. He was punctual on the date of service and did a thorough job of inspecting my home for mice. He spent about 3 hours filling holes and installing screening so that the mice wouldn't come back, and charged a very reasonable price for all of the time he was working!

I would hire Greathouse again in a heart beat!

Job was done perfectly. And again, no contract! We will definitely have them back again when needed.

Doug arrived as promised, educated us on what we were facing (bee-wise) and solved the problem immediately. He educated us on how to prevent insects getting inside (including trimming trees and shrubs). His services are based on a 6-month service arrangement. If pests return, he comes back to re-treat.
