- they replaced the existing ridge vent with an inferior one. When I complained, they replaced it with one similar
to the original, but they charged $680 to tear off the inferior one and replace it with what I thought I had contracted for.
A blind man could have done a better job installing the superior ridge vent. It was not installed in a straight line,
it is missing nails and lifting up in places, and some of the nailing holes are cracked
- courses of flashing were not nailed down properly
- nails were driven into the exposed portions of shingles and the heads were left exposed (not caulked or covered)
- the gutter guards that were on the gutters prior to the install were not replaced correctly
Ice dams formed in the harsh winter of 2013-2014. Of course that is not their fault. But, when the dams melted, water poured through the roof and into the house causing damage to walls and ceilings. That should not have occurred because I had paid for ice and water shield to be installed on the first 6 feet of the roof edges, and to cover 36" on both sides of the valleys from the base of the roof to the peak. I called Wheaton Roofing twice about the problem, but they never returned my phone calls.
In general, I found them to be not very good at returning phone calls. It would sometimes take several weeks before they returned my calls. Sometimes, I could only talk to them if I was able to reach them on their cell phones.
- The quality of work was excellent
- The crew cleaned up nicely
- The crew was responsive while onsite
The fact that the work was done during a holiday week may have impacted some of the points below.
The not so good:
- Punctuality was a little off, not bad but they started later in the day then expected
- The scheduling of material may have affect my previous point.
- The schedule on material arriving was a weak point.
- I felt I had to keep an eye on things to make sure they matched the quote
In the end they did exactly what was quoted and did it well. They totally made the roof look great and dealt with all the issues of bad plywood on my roof. I would recommend them to others but would also recommend that the home owner keep an eye on things.
It took awhile before they got to the job and finally completed about 3 months after accepting their quote. Then the heat of the 2012 summer buckled the material and it was obvious this was a problem with the material and installation. Spoke with Jerry in July and he said they would take a look right away and get back to me. Two months went by with no work or call from anyone at Wheaton Roofing. I called and called (another month gone) with no one getting back to me until finally Jerry answered his cell phone one day and said he thought it had been taken care of and was sorry and he would be out the next day to take a look and resolve. Didn't hear from him again for weeks and proceeded to call and call with no response. Finally someone came out and said they talked with Jerry and would start repairs in the next few days. Last time I saw or heard from that person again. Now it's October and I called and called and within 10 days another person called and made an appointment to come out and take a look and spoke with Jerry while standing looking at the job. He and Jerry recommended replacing the aluminum with thicker material and that would take care of the job. This person said he would have materials delivered the same day and be back in the morning to start. He called two days later and said they would bring materials and start the next day. They actually showed up the next day!!! They replaced the siding and it doesn't look good. The trim work that was there could not be replaced (too damaged) so he recommended we go to Menards and pick out some trim materials. Menards was nice but they could only give us a brochure. Back to calling Jerry Henning. Called twice and sent email but haven't heard from him. Decided to see if Angie's conflict resolution team could help. HELP!!!
After signing the contract his team was back within a week to complete my roof. It took them 3 days to complete tear off my roof, install a brand new roof along w/ installing a few skylights and new gutters. Then the final day was spent meticulously cleaning up the roof and my yard. His team was very courteous and took care of my home.
I would suggest Wheaton Roofing to all of my friends and family. Thanks Wheaton Roofing!
