Wes took the time to explain everything to me and he also got the job done completely and quickly. Wes has turned me into a lifelong customer.
I would not hesitate to hire Robinson for your heating and cooling needs! What a great company!
Very punctual. The technician always arrived before I could make it home from work ~15min drive. My old furnace did have multiple issues. Some parts replaced that didn't need to be but no charge. Very fair price considering the time logged on troubleshooting. The only part that worried me was they took my debit card# and charged like 3 weeks later. Sort of an insecure way to handle money.
While they didn't quickly resolve the issue (return visit on 2nd day) they did ultimately fix the heat. And every charge was discussed before work performed and in the end the final bill was very reasonable.
It started out great they responded and came out to replace the furnace as ours went out entirely and needed to be replaced. there was a terrible storm and they were the only ones who I could actually get on the phone.
The job was not straight forward.... to there credit they had to put the new furnace into the crawlspace and hang it from the floor joists not easy but also not uncommon.
Instilation went well until it came time for price we obviously did not expect the existing furnace to go out and were not prepared for the cost. So when the owner came out and tried to up sell me on adding a new Central air Unit, I declined. Saying I wish I could but I just don't have the money now but I will in the future maybe a year or so, can you lay the ground work now so it is ready to go.
Then the conversation turned cold and kirt, the owner stated well if I do it now I will charge you $2000 less for the AC if I do it later it will be more expensive. I said I understand and thank you for your concern but I just can't swing the added cost right now. But please install the furnace so that adding Central Air in the future will be easy concidering the tight space that we have for the new furnace.
All of these conversations took place after they had begun the work, and I had no choice as the weather was very cold. So against my better judgment I let them continue the work. Because I needed the furnace with a new born baby in the house and didn't want to risk not finding another company in a timely mannor.
They finished and the unit worked and still works fine. However I did get a Central Air unit this Summer and because of the attitude I was given by Robinson's owner I didn't feel comfortable calling them to install it.
The company who I did call to install the A/C unit enlightened me to some of the things that Robinson did for me. They Jammed the furnace into a very tight space, even thought I asked them make the installation of a A/C Unit possible and accessable.
I was informed by the new tech that they (Robinson) made it next too impossible to install a A/C unit, to quote the tech....and quot; It's like they did everything they could to make it impossible to add a A/C unit...they went out of there way to make it harder. I am surprised Robinson is usually a good companyand quot;.
It cost me an extra $1000 to get the Furnace moved to make room for the A/C unit. (even with that it was still the same price I would have paided with robinson 2yrs ago)
I feel like the techs at Robinson were fine, but I feel like the Owner was un happy with me because I didn't want to do the Furnace and the A/C at the same time. BECAUSE I COULDNand quot;T AFFORD IT. So when he saw the $$$ disappear in spite he then went down and told the techs to just install it and hurry up and get the job done. Instead of installing it in preperation for the A/C unit.
I would like to think they didn't do this to me out of spite and just did poor work, I do like to give folks the benift of the doubt... however in this case either way spite or poor workmanship, cost me money and put a very bad taste in my mouth. I think they were taking advantage of me and saw nothing but $$ signs.
They may be a fine company and the owner may not have liked me I don't know what the motives were...either way I will not hire them again.
"We have no record of this being our customer for either service work or the installation work this letter refers to. We are attempting to contact this customer ourselves and we are asking Angie's List to contact this customer as well and request a service order or receipt of some sort showing Robinson Heating and Cooling, Inc. did this work. Could this job have been sold under a different name? Thank you."
Robinson Heating and Cooling sent one of their technicians, Sean, promptly to troubleshoot our furnace. I stayed with him the entire time he was in the house. He determined the problem to be a faulty gas valve.
I told him that didn't seem to be the likely problem. He assured me that he'd spoken to the owner and that the gas valve was the problem. He said that he'd replace the gas valve and if it wasn't the problem, we wouldn't have to pay for the part. This was the only reason I authorized the replacement of this $400+ part.
We waited two days for the gas valve to arrive and I check amazon.com to see if the $400+ price was reasonable. In fact, amazon.com has the exact same part for $75. When the part arrived, I let Sean know about the price difference and he had us speak to the service manager, John. The service manager offered 10% off the price of the part. Since we still had no heat, we agreed to the discount and let Sean install the gas valve.
The gas valve solved the problem for two days and we paid the ~$800 invoice with a check. When the furnace broke two days later we called Robinson back and Sean was re-assigned to the case. At this point we stopped payment on the ~$800 check in expectation that we wouldn't pay for the gas valve, since it didn't solve the problem.
The next part that Sean wanted to replace was the circuit board controller. Again he promised that if the part didn't solve the problem, we wouldn't pay for it. If you're following the story, you probably realize that Sean is replacing the most expensive parts first.
After another week with no heat, the circuit board controller arrives. Another circuit board had arrived earlier, but Sean called and said it was the wrong part. When Sean arrived with the correct part, it didn't solve the problem either. I only let Sean continue because he continued to advise me that I wouldn't pay for parts that hadn't solved the problem.
Finally after being stumped by replacing nearly every part in the furnace, Sean cleaned out the A/C coil catch basin. As soon as he put the clean catch basin back on the furnace, it started working perfectly.
At this point we told Sean we'd wait for a call from Robinson to settle the bill. That was late April. We never heard anything from them and assumed they were so embarrassed by their incompetence, that they'd decided not to bill us.
Two weeks ago we got a letter from a collection agency looking for a balance of $1012.44. We never received any invoice for that amount, or any call from Robinson to let us know that they were expecting payment.
I called Robinson and was told by the Maria at the office that I should talk to the owner; she gave me his cellular number. When he answered my call, he told me that he spends most of his time in the field and can't help me with billing problems and told me to talk to Maria. I let him know that I'd already spoken to Maria and she gave me his number. He took my phone number and said he'd call me back the following week. We never heard from him again.
We sent a certified letter to the collection agency asking for an invoice. A week later, with no call from the owner, we received a letter back from the collection agency with a copied invoice for $778.80. No explanation of the balance of $1012.44, no 10% discount, no not charging for parts that didn't fix the problem, and no call back from the owner.
As I said, if you're interested in a Heating and Cooling Contractor with incompetent service people who will just throw expensive parts at the problem in hopes of fixing it and then turn you over to a collection agency without sending a bill, go ahead and hire this clown. He's a crook and I hope he needs the money more than me. We finally paid the bill, because life's too short.
