I had called a company called "Fixed for Good" in Saint Charles (see report on that contact), and discussed with its proprietor, Joel Petersen, my repair needs. Joel politely declined the project but strongly suggested his brother Eric would be just the person for this job. I called Eric, described my service needs and he accepted the job. A few days later, I drove the 30 miles to his shop in Waterman, and delivered the pieces to be repaired. We discussed the various approaches to the repair and ultimately settled on an estimate of $60 and a 1 to 2 day time frame. I specifically gave Mr. Petersen latitude to do additional work as he determined necessary and the additional time to do that work. Four days later, we made contact and he told me that there had been more rust damage than originally was evident and the final cost would be $80. When I arrived to pick-up the pieces, the primary item (mower frame) had been massively reinforced, new holes drilled, separate parts repaired and remounted, and the whole thing had been primer painted. I was quite impressed! He suggested that I immediately paint the frame as primer tends to absorb water, then, if I did not mind the color, offered to do the paint job then and there. The paint was completed and it being a Saturday afternoon, we were joined by two other local residents and sat and talked for about an hour as the paint dried. The bill was $80, but I insisted on paying Eric $90. He did a lot of extra work which I did not expect but was absolutely necessary, and made my reassembly of the mower much easier. The $30 extra was well worth it! The mower is operating and is much more solid (and heavier) than it was previously and will run for a few more decades. Eric Petersen has a wide range of talents and tools to do many different jobs. Although Waterman, IL is not close by, the quality of this person's work makes the 60 mile round trip drive well worth the time and fuel consumed.
Description of Work: An aging and rusting lawnmower with a good engine needed significant repair of the frame/deck to keep it from falling apart. The task required fabrication of many smaller repair pieces, attachment of these pieces by welding and repair by welding of several other original parts.
