Interior Painting, Wallpaper Service + 1 more
We wanted a copper color on our oak cabinets. We also wanted our cabinets sanded so that the new paint would have a smoother look. Chris Tyran picked the paint, primer and sealer himself. The cabinet job was done twice. The first time, we
noticed that the paint job was fading and streaking within two weeks of completion. Chris first said we must have done
something to cause the problem. But then he said he realized he did something wrong and took the cabinets to his place to
paint them again and give them plenty of time to dry. Within two weeks of re-installation, the paint was fading and streaking,
even worse than before. Additionally, a cabinet door and drawer front were not properly reinstalled. They both fell off the
cabinet frames and hit our floor with a big bang. We called Chris back several times but our calls have not been returned.
We even sent two letters, regular mail and certified. But our communications have not been acknowledged. The paint manufacturer has offered to test the remaining paint to see if this was paint failure. The paint manufacturer said Chris has
not responded to their call either so they can find out what products he used on our cabinets. We are out $1760 and will
certainly have to pay to have this job done again. We are very disappointed that Schaffer Painting and Decorating won't
step-up to help us get this matter resolved.
UPDATE Oct. 21,2013
The paint manufacturer did reach Chris Tyran. He still has not responded to our calls or letters. The paint company ran
tests on our cabinet door, which showed steaks and finger-prints coming through. The company said normal practice is
for wood (especially in a kitchen) to be de-greased properly prior to being primed. However, it could not find evidence
this was done. Tyran also used a water-based primer, rather than the recommended lacquer primer. In fact, according
to the paint company, he sprayed on multiple coats of the water-based primer,Agualente, which remains soft and gooey
under the copper-colored spray paint. The pain company said also that the primer was not properly "cured" before the
metallic spray paint was applied. The paint manufacturer was kind enough to give us the details in writing. In spite of
his mistakes, Tyran has not stepped up to take responsibility for his work or refund our payment. He took our money
and left us with a mess in our kitchen. Tyran also pulled off some ceiling paint when he took his plastic down. He
has also not responded on this issue. Update: 11/14/13 As of November, we still had not heard from Tyran. We
had filed a complaint in Lake County Small Claims Court for our money back plus court costs. Tyran did not answer the summons or show up to the hearing on Nov. 14, 2103 to contest our complaint. As a result, the judge issued a
judgement for our money back plus court costs
.
We are hopeful that Tyran will now cooperate and pay us back.
